- Not all Harley Benton's are perfect, but this one truly is and given the 179 Euro price tag, it simply is a MUST BUY, unless you are looking or a metal guitar.

The great thing about a good and affordable guitar, is I can start saving for a decent amp that much sooner. This one looks like it ticks all the boxes. Comfy, good looking, good sounding, plays well. My piggy bank is about to get emptied.
I've got the cream one - had it for a year and its incredible. Highly recommend.
Thanks for another great piece of gear that we can all afford that looks and sounds awesome. I appreciate and trust your reviews to be honest, because ... well we know you are not shy when something is not good.
Got it in pink, and it's the best guitar I've had so far, was more of an optics purchase, but I'm completely positively appalled at what you can get here for so little money. Unbelievable. Plays great, holds intonation, and sounds pretty darn good to boot, which I didn't expect.
That guitar is brilliant! Beautiful chords on that drop d bit there! ❤
That neck pickup sound is really lovely.
It is an absolutely stunning guitar. Love the colour!
Impressive. It's the first HB that I didn't think if I bought I would be taking it to a tech to have a set up, a few frets leveled and the Pu's swapped out. It is not sound less Pro than guitars you have played that cost thousands. It would be a great guitar for you to do a blind fold test. You could record 6 guitars all $500 apart in price and let us decide which guitar was the cheap HB.
I just ordered one of these today, albeit in Inca Silver. Can't wait to get it
As a beginner, i had the unfortunate luck of playing instruments with lots of issues, issues beginners should not deal with. This kind of music, "surf rock" is what i really want to get into and i did try an offset guitar and i love how comfortable it is. I just ordered one and i shall do as you mention, if it is "shit" i shall return it and get another one. I appreciate the review and your honestly.
I just got one in seafoam green.
I love the ‘50s vibe and also saw the good reviews.
These are seriously good guitars for the money.
I didn’t really need one, but just had to get one; I’m glad I did!😊
same same
I always truly enjoy your reviews, and this was really helpful because I was a bit iffy about their JACCwhateverthehellitis. But this pushed me over. Have honestly enjoyed all my HB stuff, and suspect I will with this as well. Keep up the honest work - very much appreciated. And funny, too.
Really great playing... Love your voicings!
I am building the HB kit from Thomann, the pickups are soap bar p90s though. Funny, I shaped the headstock just like that one! I am replacing the nut with Tusq and tuners with Wilkenson. Likely swapping the electronics eventually. Body in the kit is Mahogany (type)
Awesome playing Henning! 👍🏼✌🏼
Finally, decent music to listen to today! Thank you.
Great, honest review as always! I don't have a P-90ish Guitar. This would look great hanging on the wall as well.
Mine is a shell pink one's and is really fun to play (and very very nice!)
I have two JAs. One is a 25th anniversary, the other one is the one with active pickups.
Both are pretty damn good! Sure looks awful racy in blue 💙!
Like my fat little German great nephew would tell me every time he saw a blue soft drink. "Das bloo, das bloo!!!!"👍
Harley Benton makes some fantastic guitars , my favorite is the sc custom vintage black w/ tremolo , plays so easy
I took a gamble on a B stock JA Baritone guitar from HB. It was a customer return. I figured if it was a return it was likely to have been looked at before being resold. Seemed fine to me when I received it and got it for less than usual retail so worked out fine in this instance.
Paid 129€ for one of these and have played it hard and I love it. It plays great and has held up well after LOTS of hours of playing. I also like that it is light and small. I bought a similar style Squire which cost 3 times as much and ended up returning it. GREAT value.
loved the review, dude you rock just subscribed.
*Very* cool and affordable, it has that jangle. Now if I could only decide on a color...
Good job sir , greatings from Belgium.. My dog loves your music , me too :)
I've literally had this guitar sitting in my cart for a few days (along with an Evil Twin pedal) debating on whether to pull the trigger....this must be a sign ;)
These look incredible
Thank you,you are always a big help to me,this is how I find out alittle more about the guitars I buy,so please keep it up,can u play alittle led zeplin please
Amazing sound. Nice blue finish. The pink colour isn't mine. You have done a fair test. The Fender JM sounds /rings different because of the tremolo and bridge but I think that belongs to the pure sound of a JM (and Jaguar). A TOM-Bridge and Stoptail don't make the typical noises.
In your video I see and hear a very nice guitar.
Wenn ich nicht schon mit einer Fender Jazzmaster happy wäre, würde ich die mir zum Testen ordern. Bei dem Preis macht der Schwabe nix falsch.
My first acoustic guitar was a Harley Benton, a bright blue dreadnought. I don't think they even had a website back then, I tried to google it a dozen times but I never found anything. I loved that guitar, I always kinda thought I just liked it because I didn't know what a good guitar sounded like but I guess it was probably just a great instrument. It's awesome that brands like this and Squier are stepping it up, there were a couple years there where you couldn't really find good prices in pawn shops, but entry level instruments were still garbage. My "budget" rig through high school was a Roland Cube and an Ibanez that was like $450, and I've seen $300 setups that blow it out of the water.
Haven't played a H/B acoustic.
I'm tempted.
Stage Dolls? Wow! (thats a nice "blast from the past" that I did not expect to encounter on here :) (Check'em out y'all! They've got many cool songs if you liked that tune.) Henning; Great review as always. thanx for the content
Those opening takes thoooo 🤘🔥
I mean, how can you argue with that price? Its insane what HB is pulling off with their stuff... And loove the colour!!
Yeah, HB really figured out that selling cheap guitars with great colors works, especially how to make great looking blue for almost nothing.
@@Traumglanz And how to make cheap blue guitars play and sound great 👍
Crazy that they build guitars as cheap… I own PRS, Les Paul, 2 strats, and i have 3 guitars, from Harley benton…I have a T 62 which I absolutely love, I have their 335 copy which I change the pick ups out and now he plays beautifully too. Did they need some work? Yes I had to straighten the next on both of those a bit and there’s a little bit of fret sprout. But easily taken care of…It’s hard to complain about something that you can get great sound out of that cost less than if you bought the parts individually and put them together your self almost. Anyways great job with the videos as always. I like your channel and I do believe you’re honest as you have to be. Thanks and carry-on!
I have a H/B JA-??. I forget the model #. But it has a pair of active pickups, no switch, no tone, one volume, and a pretty damn good neck. Great guitar. Sounds good through my Katana 50amp 2x12.
Three of my guitars are H/B.
No complaints!
I have to agree with Henning. The quality you can get for little money nowadays was completely unthinkable in the 90s, when I started making music. After Henning's video of the HB T-style guitar, I ordered a TE-62CC on a test run. She needed some love regarding the setup. But hey, 149 EUR! Not so bad pickups, tuner absolutely OK, finish very decent, Fredjob much better than my last Mexico Strat and the most important thing it' s really fun to play.
No matter if it's the TE-62CC or here the JA-60CC, I think you get a good piece of guitar, which you can refine later on, if you really want to.
Many thanks Henning for the as always very informative video.
The te-62cc is absolutely great. Will not forget my friend's face, a big les Paul guy, when I plugged it in. That sound! Just great pickups.
Sounds great. I might even prefer certain aspects of the sound of this to my fender jazzmaster classic player.
Love this Benton! Honestly since you’re my fav reviewer of Harley Bentons would you recommend the JA 60cc over the SC-DLX?!
I just ordered one!
Great video. Mine is coming in a few days, Seafoam green in lefty. Cannot wait!
Sameeee
How is it a year later? Debating heavily to get one, wouldn’t be my main guitar that I gig with, but it’s a guitar that would make me want to play MORE.
Got one in OW leftie.
Amazing guitar, beautifully finished, lovely neck, great fretwork, played good out of the box, plays fantastic after a minor fettle and Sounds brilliant.
Totally different to my p90s, strat and tele pick up's
My current favourite @ £145.
My current favourite @full stop.
Buy one, you won't regret it
Love mine.
All the best to you and yours from North Nottinghamshire UK
Yes I just got one of these today your absolutely right it's amazing guitar for the money absolutely made up fellow lefty I got the blue one my first Hb guitar
@@dbeez8317 since bought the dc junior dirty mustard. Wow.
Haven't touched 5 others since.... Recommended.
Take care🎸
I have the 25th anniversary in gold LEFTY coming end of the month, well done HB for not leaving us out! So excited!
Good sounding guitar
Love that song 👌
I have to agree with Colin, if it came in a nicer color, i'dd be gassing over this like crazy.
I play all my HB s through a lot of the same kind of amps , matter of fact I bought a Hughes & Kettner after watching the video he did at their factory , in the hot wharehouse
OUR LATEST ALBUM WAS RECORDED WITH THIS GUITAR , THEY ARE GREAT
It has the really nice sounding single coils. But a tune-o-matic instead of a tremolo bridge. So it sounds great but can't do the things unfortunately. A bound roasted neck under 200 though. Yeah it's pretty cool
Pretty cool but a JM without the trem is not a JM, IMO. I would actually dig it with P90's as an SG alternative.
That's a happy rescued 🐻! and interesting guitar.... hmmm
Sir, you make it sound very pleasant when you play. The recorded song is very good.
i see that on your video footage it's clear that the POLES of the pickups
don't sit Perfectly in line with the string.....they can be off to the side.
Personally i would call that OUT as an "alignment issue" & weakness. They should be perfectly aligned with string and pole piece. (as far as i am aware)
That said, you are very correct in highlighting that roasted necks and potentially roasted fingerboards as VERY unusual at this price point.....superb feature.
We know that you can't just Roast any old woods. The woods need to be good quality
at the outset. The roasting takes TIME and must vastly increase the price of
guitars. (but not here)
You are right in stating that also other brands have quality and price
similar to HB but better. However, there are not many brands doing it.
i know of better deals than HB but certainly HB have the solid backing
of THOMAN who are turning over 800 million dollars per year selling
musical instruments. .........so they should be good to go with
many thanks for the review.
Nobody has needed to spend over $150
on a guitar for the last 15 years. They were just wasting money.
I’m curious what the other brands are doing better than Harley Benton. I’ve gotten really fascinated by these guitars and the number of features and quality they can arrive at….Eart is another brand I have wanted to try due to the fret work that everyone reviews as pretty incredible.
I love offsets and I cannot lie.🙃
Have you considered replacing the stock 250k tone pot and/or volume pot for the 1M pots used in the Fender Jazzmaster and the Squiers Classic Vibe models? Or maybe 500k pots? I miss the sparkle in my JA-60 SB so I'm thinking of doing that.
Would you share pickup distances from your strings? (Could make a big diff, not to mention pick you use)
i love modern budget guitars
the song is perfect for an 80's movie montage or end credits.
First time I've ever heard the tremolo referred to as the 'wiggle': WHY-DIDN'T-WE-THINK-OF-THAT??? 100%.
Wow..i bought it left handed, maybe arrive this afternoon, hoping in a good quality check before :) . i have another HB, an SC400 and it sounds great, i had to go to a liutaio to adjust a little fret buzz, nothing else. He told me that is a very good guitar for the price.
My OW leftie is now my favourite, hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm loving mine.. Really good guitar👍
@@teterouge1472 arrived at 3pm, I'm still playing. 👍👍 Good looking and playability, you hope well
@@alessandrofini1394 a nice evening for you then. Enjoy your self and have a great weekend.
All the best to you and yours from North Nottinghamshire UK
Simon
The pickups sound really good. I went with G&L Doheny Tribute for my budget JM-style guitar, but this probably would have worked, as well. I would have expected a trem system instead of a tune-o-matic bridge/tailpiece, though I imagine the tailpiece posts are standard Gibson spacing and thus Les Trem compatible. Thanks.
Hi there ! I have a question about your Doheny. I tried one a few months ago and really liked it, but didn't buy it because I felt that both e-strings were just a tad too close to the fretboard edge. Do you have this problem with yours? (I mean I had to super-focus not to push the high and the low e-string over the fretboard.)
@@allatsea2746 I just ordered mine a few days ago and haven't received it, but that's disappointing to hear. However, I think it's possible to get used to it.
Good choice, the neck pickup on that guitar is by far the best sounding neck single coil iv'e ever heard.
The TOM bridge is a FEATURE, not a downgrade!
It's literally why I'm interested in this model for now...and a Fano Jm6 for the Dreamtime.
Don't get me wrong...there's a place for a traditional Jazzmaster too...but this isn't that. This is more Rocker than traditional Jazzmaster.
The pickups are high output, p90like, apparently, just in Jazzmaster pickup housing.
Sane as the J Mascis Squier Jazzmaster.
I was looking early this Year for a Squire Bullet Mustang.... to get that Cobain Green Day Thing!
I had alot going on this Summer, and kinda conentrated on my "Main Guitars".
But I keep coming back. Is this Thoman Jazzmaster Style something I should Consider (having the Squire Bullet Mustang in Mind)?
Thank you so much ETSCHI! DAnke!
Fender Jazzmasters are overly bright not because of the pickups, but because they put 1000 K volume pots in it where 250 K is normaly used to tame single coils.
Is the body the same size as a "normal" Fender/Squier Jazzmaster or is it slight smaller?
Sounds damn good
The neck build in looks strange at 0.50... And we should buy that guitar because it is blue, Henning! 😂
Great looking guitar (i'm building an offset right now) but the sound just isn't there for me. It has a real thin tonal range and it just gives up when driven hard, it's like they took a JM pup, took out a lot of the brightness and left it at that. I would buy if there were more quality JM pick up alternatives (some cost more than the guitar) but for now i'm pondering doing a P90 neck, humbucker/bridge setup on the one i'm building.
Apparently is about the pots. Put in 1m pots, dial the tone back to your preference and you're good to go.
Harley Benton is insane value for the money
Like the track at the beginning. Guitar sounded great in there. You need to raise the action just a hair before you send it to me Bruder.
Still desperately waiting for a new HP42 signature Harley Benton 🙏
Ich habe eine ST62 und bin super zufrieden.
Allerdings fielen die Schrauben von den Mechaniker einfach raus... Die waren überdreht!!
Ich musste sie gegen etwas größere tauschen ..
Sonst alles super!!
What make is that spectacular sparkle re bass? The pickguard is divine!
Marco Bass Guitars
25.5in 648mm scale length.
I wish Harley Benton would make a Thinline/Nashville for this price. In fact, I wish anyone would make a Thinline Nashville.
You said you did a review of the new HB Tele. Haven't you uploaded it or am I missing something?
coming
That's a lot of guitar for the bucks. I love the LPB finish. But 21 frets is a dealbreaker for me.
👀
This singer sounds exactly like the singer from „Stage Dolls“, a Swedish AOR Band of my youth.
it IS a Stage Dolls song and it IS that singer... I extracted the vocals from the original song.
@@EytschPi42 aha! Thank you for explaining that. And btw. great review as always!
Stage Dolls are from Norway, singer is Torstein Flakne. A really good guitarist, singer and songwriter.
oh wow.. those cleans. I kinda really want one.
Hey Henning, what is that table top pedal board thing (the one with the Blue Sky on it) and do you know where I could get one?
Instagram MarcusDLX
@@EytschPi42 Awesome thank you!.
are they really p90s though or JM pickups? im getting one of these in any case...but me thinks its JM pickups
@@bruceman9581 But these have slugs not adjustable screws. For these PUs to be P90's they either need adjustable screws with two magnets on each side. Or these slugs aren't magnetic and have two magnets on either side then they'd also qualify as P90. If the slugs are magnetic then it would be more like a regular single coil in sound and construction.
You made a quick quip about Schaller sucking at the beginning of the video. Why do they suck..?
their quality has been very inconsistent in the last few years
I just bought the HB fusion and like you said if it's fine ok othewise i'll send it back and get another one but this willl keep the price low, cmon those guitars are amazing for the price and specs
Sounds good
Might check one of these out, but I may have one too many guitars
Who cares ....
Too many guitars?.... How does that work then...... Asking for a friend obviously.....
There is a difference with the sunburst version ?
there shouldn’t be
Mmmmm you could earn a living now playing guitar, I do like this one but that tele looks the mutts nuts just the weight puts me off cheers.
For natural cleans, the P90 is great, I have a Tele with P90 in the neck, the middle pos is ideal for chords on Indy covers we play, not so keen on high gain with P90's, good track, nice guitar.
This guitar has Roswell Jazzmaster pickups. Not P-90s.
Jazzmaster pickups are not P90s.
@@jacobseal how do they differ? link video showing difference, as these look and sound similar, but happy to be corrected.
FWIW I think having a legit JM, an LP with p90s and an LP with humbuckers is totally worth it. You can do a lot of sounds with those.
@@jacobseal both my Tele and SG have P90's in the neck, my LP has humbuckers, it's a pickup everyone should try, to see if it does it for them, Iron Gear and Warman both do good versions.
What's going on @ 15:01 ?
The video glitch actually works with that low note...
Nice song. Who's doing the vocals?
the guy from the original recording… I extracted the original vocals from the album
Not my kind of guitar but it does look and sound amazing... My only issue with reviewing HB guitars is that you ALWAYS use amps that would buy 100 HB guitars! Well, not quite but you get what I mean. How about buying a "cheap" combo and then demoing these guitars? Lets face it MOST people who buy this will not be playing through a $3000 amp!
if you play expensive guitar through shit amp, it's going to sound like shit. with high end amps you can demonstrate guitars ability and character much better
@@imanagemydamage Why not both then? Cause again at least 50% of the people buying cheaper guitars aren't buying high end amps either. You get a more objective and fuller view of guitars with the more expensive amp, but a more realistic/practical view with a lower end one.
Blackstar amps is a choice if you want an affordable amp. 😏
some people buy good amps and still want cheap guitars if they are good enough.
A 6 dollar guitar will sound, for instance, great through a fractal, but in the end its about the playablity and durability of the 6 dollar guitar.
21:30 OMG, if I saw this bear at my shelter I'd take it home, ASAP. It's been so long since I've had a bear.
My prs ce24 also has fake abalones inlays, what a rippoff:-(
Good Beginner Guirar?
sure
please bring back Kiana!!!
Too bad they can’t sell them in America for that price. $85 shipping is a real deal killer.
String through body way to go
So, someone has already copied the Meteora, Fender can't make anything without it being immediately copied by someone huh? Offsets are more popular lately though- I think because lots of ppl are just sick of the Strat and Les Paul shapes. I've never gotten to even hold one, but I had an SG once and I didn't like the way it felt shifted off to one side- and I'm sure an offset would probably feel the same way to me. May be even worse tbh, I think they're even more shifted toward the head stock than an SG is.
I think it is the opposite. The offset is designed to provide better balance. SG's are hit or miss. I had 2, one with horrible neck dive and the 2nd with almost zero. Go figure.

Good singer. Keep him in, much better than the screaming guy you ordinary use.
