    You have just shed some light on how I can build a 3" over the rear axle true dual system for my 2004 Silverado 1500 using two 3" mufflers and over the axle already bent pipes, I know there will be several mild bends needed and how I can cut the end of the Y pipe and turn it into two 3" pipes going into an X pipe before the two 14" turbo style mufflers before the two pipes go over the rear axle and exit behind the right rear tire, a Speed Engineering inspired knockoff! Thank you for the great content, I now feel I can actually do this.

    been having a bunch of exhaust issues as my car coming up on 200k :D I used to work on cars with my dad when I was young and know we have a harbor freight welder like this. I didnt even think of adding a cherry bomb to save space! I have low clearing between heat shields with my new locations for hangers after mine rusted off. I had one on my first little truck and loved it. Already tried new exhuast brackets , replacing broken manifold bolts and what not but I am going to get that welder going and with the small exhuast fix this thing up and maybe even weld on new flanges and stuff.

    I have a 97 ford f150 flare side, single cab, and a 4.6 v8. I was thinking of true duels with cherry bombs and a boom tube off the side but now I'm reconsidering because that (in the video) sounds good for cheap.

    As a dealer tech, we were told that pre-cat tubing is 300 series because of the heat. My personal experience, these last decades. I own a 84 Era MIG 150 amp and ran miles of wire thru but never “Flux-Core”. I want to repurpose pre-cat pipe on a project and watch videos to learn. As an ASE Master Tech since the 70’s, Retired and thrifty. So welding with mild steel wire and a tank of 25/75, should I have any issues? I really just need to take samples and practice. I like flanged “V” bands but realize they may warp a little. I don’t care about rows of dimes or some rust. I clean well before & after but use CRC Cold Galvanizing spray with no burn off or rust yet in the rust belt, even from 2 & 3 years ago on my wife’s car. Thoughts? Thanks for interesting video! It takes work to video, sound & edit. My truck!

    Question, I’m thinking about welding up a way to make it where I can switch between open manifold completely straight piped and then another pipe which will have the cats and a simple quieter muffler, do you think it’d be better to have some cherry bombs like that on my pipe that will have nothing? I personally think the louder the better and don’t mind the popping that I have now ( 4.7 L V8 05 tundra true dual straight pipes with cats still on)

I will tell you almost nothing in less then a month thats all it is is a piece of pipe Im not saying there is anything wrong or negative about it if you like loud i guess its great but after a while it gets old I have had a few cars with that type of exhaust to me it s noise pollution now i know i got old thanks for vid

      That welder has a min and max ampage. try 15 to 20 volts "or min setting" and about 20-22 on the wire speed. You want a nice even sizzle sound with no sticking and no popping, but you don't want it so hot that you burn back either. If possible, try adjusting the welder settings while you're welding or possibly have a friend adjust the setting while you weld.

      He is using what is called "aluminized" mild steel tubing with 16 and 18 gauge wall thickness. Aluminized tubing is produced specifically for automotive exhaust, and is a good middle ground between stainless steel and uncoated mild steel. It's coated inside and out with a thin layer of aluminum to slow down corrosion, - it's alot like galvanized steel tubing, but with aluminum instead of zinc. It welds just fine right through the aluminum, without the toxic fumes of zinc.

    What’s the setting u put on the welder? I have the same welder and I can’t figure out, it’s making holes on the exhaust tubes, thanks

      Exhaust tubing is hard, you want to make sure there is the smallest possible gap between pipes! Run it on low, wire speed 4. And honestly, let the pipe cool down between welds. Heat soaking the pipe will cause you to blow through faster, but it doesnt take long to cool back down. Good luck!

      That's a lincoln 125 flux core. It's a brick. It's like 70 pounds and not very powerful. You should get a Century FC-90, or a Titanium 125.

    Noob question, but are the new exhaust pieces you welded stainless steel?

      @StrangeGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      I dont think any of it was, but it doesn't make much difference as far as this project goes.

    Why didn't you just put duel exhaust on it? I mean since you took so much out.
    Yes, I'm aware of the drivers side crossing over in front of the transmission. Then "Y" piped to tie into the pass side. I have an F150 4x4 myself. I did this same job. Although I put in true duels with an "X" pipe.
    I'm not criticizing your work but no means. Just curious is all.
