    I see your point but I think there are a few holes in this theory.
    1) Unlike eri whose quirk is basically automatic in its function once activated and continues even after physical contact is made, overhaul has to choose the extent that his quirk affects the target and it’s dependent on how long he maintains physical contact, it’s why only magne’s top half was destroyed instead of her whole body, and compress only lost an arm.
    2) Overhaul’s quirk is limited to his hands and he can’t control it remotely from his body, as soon as they were detached, he’s essentially quirkless. So I doubt he’d be able to program separate pieces of his flesh to attack quirk factors as bullets.
    3) as to why he didn’t fuse with eri, remember that Overhaul is a germaphobe, and views the act of touching people as horrifically disgusting, now imagine fusing with them. He only did so because the heroes back him into a corner and he was on the verge of losing everything he’d built (basically a do or die scenario). This isn’t something he do if he had other options, such as bullet farming a child😂
    4)Lastly overhaul is motivated by the idea of repaying his foster father for taking him in by making the yakuza great again, and eri is the boss’ last living relative. Overhaul rationalized he could get the boss’ forgiveness for all the twisted sh*t he did by just making the yakuza great but he probably thought fusing with his boss’ granddaughter would keep him out of his good graces😅.

      I was just about to say all this and am so happy someone else caught onto this!
      I honestly think Kai fusing with his subordinates was a spur of the moment act of desperation. He likely just smashed his body and the others together without knowing for sure he would be able to use their quirks. I think he might've theorized he could do it, but never tried before since, ya know, germaphobe.

    • @clxrnce

      Doesn’t point 1 also apply to eri’s quirk? We know that her quirk could be programmed with how to rewind you because everybody shot with the bullet didn’t just rewind to before they were born, only specifically their quirk factors got rewound so I don’t think that would be out of Chisaki’s scope.
      However the other 3 are solid and though I think that being a germaphobe was a dumb way to nerf his character, it is what it is.

    • @thegtfan2863
      @thegtfan2863 Před 10 měsíci +5

      @@clxrnce I think the point they were making is that Eri's quirk is more like a force of Nature, hence why there was so much emphasis put on her learning to use it.
      While Kai's is certainly difficult to use, but requires very precise instructions. All Eri's quirk needed was instructions, aiming it at whatever Gene was responsible for quirks while Overhaul is never shown to break things down to such a small, minute level.
      Their quirks are incredibly different, or I should say that Eri's is different, once again shown in the arc following her debut, as they have difficulty finding anyone who can teach her how to better use it.

      Over haul also Can't just make matter of nowhere or transmutate like an FMA character, the Only reason he got big before was because he fused with that giant guy and then used to quirk to get bigger, eventually overhaul would run out of skin on his hands meaning he wouldn't be able to use his quirks to make the bullets
      Also I'm sure the whole process is incredibly painful, I'd imagine him healing his own arm or fusing with people is incredibly painful considering you're literally tearing them and yourself apart enforcing yourselves back together

      @rbr1170 Před 10 měsíci +5

      @@andrewb9409Bruh, passivity can be applied to different things. Everyone who reads the Manga knows that it was only towards the end of the arc did she gain some sort of control. He was obviously talking about its effects when activated. Eri does not have to think about which direction it will go, that means once activated, the "effects" applies passively. That is, it just starts rewinding. Kai, however, has to choose which direction of change his quirk will do to things: assemble, disassemble, transform. It does not happen all at once when he activates his quirk. See how that works, Eri's quirk has a passive aspect, Kai has a more proactive aspect.

      This is probably because quirks themselves still have their limits. So he knows how to transfer a quirk but he probably doesn’t know how to change a quirks purpose or, in another sense, upgrade it. When we see him uses others quirks he uses them as they had been use by the previous owner. So he either:
      1. Doesn’t know how to change a quirk to be more useful. Like making his entire body able to reconstruct somebody off of touch
      2: the quirk probably only develops/works in the hands. Via y cutting his hands off made him quirkless

      @@playboi3056That makes sense because whenever he put himself and others back together, he did so in a way that was humanoid or similar. Aside from making extra body parts, it would have been advantageous to make his body sprout limbs whenever he wanted or something (assuming I'm remembering the fight right). The fact that he didn't do that despite being so smart both scientifically and combatively might imply an inability to do so.

    • @jw-py9nw
      @jw-py9nw Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@Boogiepop210Well he might not be able to do that. I won't claim to remember the fight perfectly, but it's possible that he can't manipulate the density of things like that. Shifting around the position of something - even on a molecular level - is one thing, but changing the innate properties of that thing is another. So it might not have been possible to do that without, say, making his bones his skin. And while he could likely do that, he might not be able to do so without leaving himself devoid of an endoskeleton and thus unable to stand.
      After all, it's not like he ever made his hand into a gun and shot someone with it, even though that would have been advantageous at many points. He likely has some limits and has to follow the limits of biology and anatomy, so making something harder, lighter, or adding properties they wouldn't normally have like flammability or corrosiveness might be outside his capacity to achieve with his quirk.

    Personally, I think that the only reason that Kai didn't assimalate other quirks like Eri's and become a bigger part of the series is his mysophobia. He viewed all quirks as diseases so he was probably disgusted at the thought of having more in his body. For why he was ok with fusing with his eight bullets, its most likely some completely arbitrary reason like because they're members of his inner circle they're "more clean" in his eyes.

He kept reffering to quirks as a disease and he was constantly wearing gloves because his hands would something become itchy and irritable. Maybe the more he used it the more it hurt him, so perhaps he wanted to use Eri's quirk instead of his own because it would be less strain. Few ideas to possibly explain.
    1. He only fused with people who he really knew how their quirks worked.
    2. Only 1 person at a time.
    3. Like an organ transplant, the fused bodies might start to rejecting eachother after a while. He was only fused for a short time.
    4. He still doesn’t know what the quirk factor is, could be virus, could be genetic, could be a super retrovirus that has permanently implanted it’s self into the human’s DNA, so it transmitted both paternally and virally. Example being a super HIV virus but instead of being detrimental to host cells they’re making a mutualistic relationship with them by empowering the host. Now the reason why this is all happening? You tell me, it’s the whole concept of the story.
    5. Rewind is extremely powerful, he’d probably not want to merge with her just because he could end up like her dad, be kicked out when rewinded.
    I’d like to think that his reconstruction is knowledge biassed and he need to know what he’s turning it into/ know every detail of the quirk as well. It’s easy to think of stone structures causes it’s basically jut bricks once you get small enough. Biological is far harder, deconstructing is easy because all he has to do is just think, all the amino acids disassociate, but build them is extremely hard, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acid, and some vitamins and minerals is what we are when you get down to it, but if he could just easily make it wouldn’t he just start making basically Homunculus/ Nomus. This way he’s got a broken, but still more balanced quirk which he makes even better with his sheer intelligence able to cross the inanimate object to biological barrier.

    i noticed this a while ago and did a bit of thinking myself. the answer i came to, though not explicitly stated anywhere so it's little more than fanfiction, is that Eri's rewind is much simpler and more straightforward than overhaul, simple enough to work perfectly for what overhaul was trying to do, contrary to his own quirk.
    the only thing Eri's quirk does is rewind something to a previous point in time, which has only two parameters: what to rewind, and by how much time. Overhaul's quirk, however, is MUCH more complex and has WAY more parameters than rewind, which we don't even know the full extent of. imagine how much pain it would be to design a bullet to completely reorganize a person's body compared to simply rewinding the quirk factor. not to mention that every person's body and quirk are different from another's, so it is not probable that he could program one bullet that could fit every single quirk out there, at least without making everyone a literal carbon copy of each other.

  • @Dragiare
    @Dragiare Před 10 měsíci +8

    Overhaul as a quirk bullet would not get the effect he was looking for. The bullets work as a condensed version of the quirk.
    Rewind as a quirk is a one direction function, backwards. What is backwards is completely based on the current state of the target. A target falling being rewinded would go back up. A target going up a mountain being rewinded would go back down the mountain.
    Overhaul has only been shown to go in two directions, disassemble and reassemble. Both happen. The ground becoming spikes, merging with another person, "restoring" Eri. All of which we've seen Overhaul do, works off of those two actions, taking it apart then putting it together.
    A bullet made from the core function of his quirk would be good for medical surgery or emergency treatment but not nullification. The only hint to it not doing both was his boss. He did not complete the process with his boss. He removed something from the boss that put him in a coma but wouldn't kill him. He likely knows where the missing material to restore him is. Thus, wanting to get back to his boss makes sense. What he removed can be put back but only he knows what and where it is. What his quirk does can be undone by outside means. Rewind cannot, unless undone by rewind.
    Separating the quirk functions of overhaul could destroy the quirk factor altogether. So why not use rewind since it only needs to be isolated.
    Why use water for a windmill when you have wind available?

      If AFO and the doctor can harvest quirks from corpses then I fully expect it to just be doable from DNA. Hell I believe the doctor was even able to make more of the bullets by studying the ones he got from Shigi. Quirks can manifest through certain body parts but the code of how to make the body party would still be in the dna.
      Overhaul was simply to strong of an ability and he had to get gimped to keep the story going, No way around it. The only reason AFO didn't take his quirk was because it would simply make him to powerful for even the freshly power wanked One For All to defeat.

    1. He can only use his ability by touching something with his hands. That’s why he’s useless after shigaraki took his hands. Eri’s body automatically rewinds her injuries meaning it’s a passive ability and it can effect others(like when she deleted her dad).Eri’s ability is like an aura coming off her entire body so her blood would still have the effect of the quirk. Because overhaul specifically needs his hands to use his power(just like shigaraki) his blood won’t have the effect.
    Edit: I’m ngl… overhaul probably wouldn’t care anyway 😂. He don’t really mind torturing eri for the sake of progress and it would be a lot easier
    Also, merging with eri would be extremely dangerous as her quirk is uncontrollable and if he made even the slightest mistake he could be wiped from existence. Overhaul would never take that risk. He’s also a massive germaphobe and would never want to merged with a child he saw as cursed

    Funny Thing: locating that gene wouldnt even be difficult... since it seems to be the same one that translates to the pinky toe thing. So its really likely just the same gene spliced differently. At least for the Gene that activates the quirk. For the one that actually tells what kind of quirk you have, thats something different, but if he got hold onto which one it is, and where it is, overhaul could copy paste any quirk he wants. So he just has All for Ones ability but better. He could also just go around even mutating those quirks and stuff. Also he most likely can make his body fit Quirks easier. Is Overhaul stupid?

    kai's quirk can change DNA traits is correct but at the same time, the MHA world is a little more futuristic than ours due to quirks where science is more advanced and it could also mean that DNA remodeling is possible or common enough, using his own quirk would mean that heroes can just go to a scientist to remodel their DNA traits back to normal where they can have their quirks back faster whereas, in Eri's case, the only way for heroes to have their quirks back is from Eri's quirk herself.

    So fusing with Eri wouldn't work unless he has a full understanding of the biological portion of Rewind to keep it in tact nor would even creating "generic" Overhaul bullets they'd need to be target specific and that's just unrealistic
    Using Eri was just way WAY faster

    Overhaul would have had to touch every single person with a quirk in order to create the world he wanted. With Eri, he was able to make her quirk into bullets that would be able to do the job much faster than overhaul would have. You could say that he could have done the same thing to his own quirk, but think about all the torture Eri went through in the process. Overhaul wouldn’t want to do it to himself.

    I think maybe it’s part of what his quirk uses to activate- his hands. Like Shiggy who has to had to have his fingers touch the thing, his quirk focuses on his hands touching what he wants to overhaul. Eri’s didn’t seem to have that- it was almost passive, and covered her entire body so it would still work even if it wasn’t from a specific part of her body? As for why he didn’t just merge with her- you’ve got a point

    I would like to provide a counter-argument to the idea that overhaul needs an understanding of the human body at a molecular level. Essentially, you don't need complete knowledge to manipulate something. For instance, surgeons can successfully separate conjoined twins with a general understanding of organ placement in the human body; they don't need to comprehend every cell separation intricacy, just the broader picture. Similarly, if your phone falls and is disassembled (without damage), you can reassemble it without needing to know how to manufacture a CPU, battery, memory card, etc."

    I think the reason Kai used Eri to remove quirks instead of using Overhaul, was that Rewind is a "one size fits all" solution since as you mentioned, Each individual has their quirk factor in a different place and so Kai would have to study that individual person to be able to remove all of the quirk factor of that individual. Rewind on the other hand, just turns the person to a point in evolution where they had no quirk, no matter the person, returning them to a pre-quirk state applies to everyone. So, using requin was the most viable choice, from the mass production angle, while using Overhaul to remove quirk factors would be a better option in the individual level.

Then have Overhaul and AFO duke it out with AFO barely beating him THEN the heroes are able to defeat AFO in his weakened state. Would have been a much more natural way to nerf AFO by having him fight another stupidly OP villain before having to fight the heroes so they actually stand a shot coz as it is atm, Horikoshi has painted himself into a corner.

    I Disagree, there are actually a real world explanation for this. For context I have a PhD in Genetics so not just speaking out of my butt. For a single gene to be able to cause this much physiological change to each individual person, the gene most then likely works as a chromatin altering transposon.
    Chromatin Explanation: All our DNA is wrapped in around for easy storage and access and its called chromatin. Each personal chromatin has very slight variations leading to small changes in each person protein expression and this chromatin also changes over time due to age or lifestyle. Also your chromatin structure is also genetic to a degree as we see children inherit their parents chromatin structure to start before its starts changing based on age and lifestyle. This is most likely need for Quirks to happen since their entire body would need to undergo massive genetic manipulations to handle each specific quirk. Also this explains why it is only a certain age when their quirks start activating as that is when their chromatin changes to release it. There are many signals (including for the bodies developmental time points) that tell the chromatin to shift.
    Transposon Explanation: Transposons are elements in the DNA that actually move around and frequently change locations. Now in humans we have most if not all our transposons deactivated but its theorized they are the reason for so much empty space in our DNA. Transposons are (funny enough) introduced into DNA via a virus that would use it as a way of inserting its genome into a host and copy itself and continue propagating. But because of these random insertions and occually "jumping around the genome" they tend to disrupt different areas of the genome and different genes.
    Now if we combine these two and imagine a transposone with genome wide chomatin altering capabilities, then you have the recipe for massive changes in all genes across the entire individual. Now Overhall must understand that in each person's genome there is a random gene that will gift each person a quirk but for each person its in a different location and he would need to find each individual persons location inorder to cut it out. In his case what he most likely does is take in the body and inserts whole chunks of DNA into his out DNA and then takes it out when he isn't using it, as having so much DNA expressing independently of his out would kill him. And this would also explain why he doesn't just decide to become the new All for One and go around stealing quirks nonStop since it would take years of trial and error to find each individual gene.
    So Overhauls plan is instead to have Eri send people's chromatin to a younger age (which wouldn't kill them) and instead trap their chromatin unable to receive the "open signal" since it already passed.

    • @stevenpaniagua8463
      @stevenpaniagua8463 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Now with all this being said he didn't take the path of least resistance. He could have with time learned how excise the quirk DNA from Eri and only attached that smaller piece of DNA but that would have taken year and years of slowly testing each piece of DNA for quirk abilities. But, would he know what was the source of the quirk or what was the secondary mutations. Lets take the squirt bottle quirk idea, if he took out the look of the squirt body and returned his body to normal, would that return him to a normal human or maybe just make him shoot water out of his mouth? That why I theorize its affecting all the chromatin in the genome and because of that narrowing down what is gene and what is only being affected secondary may become impossible.

Which could of been simpler and cheaper to produce for maximum profit

  • @Gamerlord17
    @Gamerlord17 Před 10 měsíci +1

    I see it this way. He wanted to eliminate quirks because he saw them as a diseases however he valued how own quirk because he felt it was a necessary tool to accomplish his goals and he thought the same of Eri.
    Also the bullets were made from her blood, not her skin and the first version of the bullets don't permanently take away your quirk.
    Not to mention Kai is a germaphobe and so likely didn't want to do experiments on himself because he even mentioned how much he hates using his quirk on himself because it hurts like Hell.
    He uses Eri because that was the quick safe easy and in his mind cleanest way to go about it.
    He was told about her quirk and was fascinated by it's function and so it's entirely likely that using his quirk in a manner similar to her was considered but ultimately dropped.
    Lastly if AFO and overhaul did get into a fight? Bro would immediately lose because AFO would speed blitz him or overpower him with a large blast wave that Overhaul wouldn't be able to do anything about.
    All AFO needs is to lay a hand on you PERIOD. He just likes going for the face or the next but it doesn't matter wear he grabs you. If he gets his hand on you it's over.
    If anything AFO had plenty of chances to straight up jack his quirk but chose not to so he probably thought Deacy was better because we don't really know the range of overhauls quirk. Shigaraki has literal city levels of destructive power in the palm of his hand and in several different flavors thanks to AFO.

    The nerf in question to me is Chisaki’s germaphobia. With the exception of desperation, we’ve seen him freak from just the thought of someone potentially touching him, much less hurting him enough to draw blood. If the perfect test subject hadn’t been dropped in his lap, maybe he would’ve resorted to dissecting and experimenting on his own flesh out of desperation, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. If anything, a glaring plot hole, or at least, a missed opportunity, was not sticking him in a bubble, a hazmat suit, or even a suit like Mr. Freeze. Side note: Bubble Girl could possibly be a reference to this. Then, there’s LeMillion and his quirk that keeps him from being touched. Maybe even Mr. Centipeder, something most people wouldn’t want to touch (although I can’t remember which is more dangerous to deal with out of the centipede or millipede).

    I think the reason he couldn’t use overhaul for quirk erasure wasn’t because HE couldn’t but because it did require so much effort for an individual. Like yeah I can paint a general person picture but if I wanna redraw their organs I would need time and a lot of practice for that person in particular. And if he needs to think about it that much it wouldn’t be effective as a mass produced weapon. Rewind however doesn’t require thought or direct control. Just a dosage and potency.

    Chisaki's plan was to control the market in the escalating war between heroes and villains by selling TWO different items, a bullet that takes quirks and a serum that brought them back, selling them to both sides and making the Shie Hassaikai relevant and powerful again. Only Eri's blood could properly do both without a functioning brain to actively target their very specific and unique quirk.
    Also, Miro was going to win his fight against Overhaul because he had such precision over his phasing quirk that Chisaki couldn't touch him.

  • @ericcire5766

    I think its in the word progress and time. The basis of MHA is that quirks are slowly getting powerful after each geenration so an ability to revert the genes to be as they were in the past could effectively delete a quirk. thats the basis of Eris power. Overhaul just rearranges the human anatomy without progressing it further or backward, so he is basically useless to getting rid of quirks. Similarly, if there was someone with a stand ability like the one in Jojo Golden Wind The Endless death that can accelerate somethings age, they would make quirks more powerful, like removing the contact requirement for Ochaco-chan or the line of sight requirement for Aizawa-sensei.

    Rewind if memory serves only works on living things, while overhaul rearranges matter living or not, so it would affect the bullets he tried to use, if he could get the power to transfer from his hands. As for not fussing with Eri , Overall hates germs and kids are filled with them, on top of that, if he did fuse with her and her power went out of control he might not be able to rearrange himself to shut of the quirk in time, he probably did think of it but decided it wasn't worth the risk, and it might be possible that if he did fuse with her as soon as her quirk activates it separates their fusion, hell he might have already tried and failed before.

  • @martinpat94
    @martinpat94 Před 8 měsíci

    So there are a couple of things that I think you are missing.
    First quirks aren’t exactly from just genetics, there is apparently some origin that produces some quirk Factor thing. This is how Eraser can turn others quirks off as he makes the body stop producing said Factor. This is also why he can use others powers when he takes them into himself cause he absorbs the part of their body that produces the factor.
    Second Overhaul has to Grasp what he wants to change, like you said very similar to Shigaraki’s quirk or at least how he used to have to do it. So he couldn’t use his own cells for it because of the activation requirement. Also I’m sure he thought about fusing with Eri, but considering the fact she rewinds her parents into oblivion he didn’t want to risk it killing him
    Lastly like others have said Overhaul needs to be actively used while Eri’s is passive and radiates from her whole body. That is why he uses her Blood. There is also the fact that her power doesn’t affect herself and when she was healed it was because Chisaki literally rebuilt her healthy.

  • @larryannunziata8341
    @larryannunziata8341 Před 10 měsíci

    BTW, I also do not buy that Overhaul could not just give himself his arms back. I know his quark factor involved his hands but I think touch is more accurate since he changed his body at will. He should be able to regrow is arms by touching sufficient mass. He is basically a quirk version of Edward Eric.

    1. I don't think Rewind affects Eri herself (or if it does, it'd just instantly deactivate if it targeted her).
    2. If Overhaul merged with Eri and tried to use Rewind, Rewind would likely target Overhaul (since it seems to work by proximity) and rewind to the point that the merging is undone (and then potentially continue to rewind him).
    3. Overhaul seems to need to consciously activate his quirk (hence why he doesn't affect his own gloves most of the time) and thus doesn't function once separated from his mind, while Rewind seems to activate when certain conditions are met and thus could function separate from Eri (the horn size being an indicator of particular conditions rather than a requirement).
    4. Overhaul's quirk can only be activated with his hands. This would mean that he'd need to make any bullets out of his hands if it would work. This means at least temporarily damaging his hands (before he repairs them with some other source of organic matter). This runs the risk of unintentionally disabling his own quirk, leaving the boss, the guy he's doing this all for, permanently comatose, and failing to restore the Yakuza to prominence.

    I agree with JD Walker’s points but I also agree that this is the Mangaka’s (sorry if that is the way to spell it) way of nerfing a few of the characters with more overpowered quirks like permeation until a point where it is absolutely needed like in the Meta Liberation War Arc. Also with how the spoilers for the Hero Academia Manga chapter 402 ended (ain’t telling ya how that one goes down) it is really setting up Shigaraki as the main villain.

    Agreed with the testing of his quirk versus Eri's, logically he should have fully tested his quirk first and seen how it weaponizes.
    However, fusing with people is probably a super dangerous endeavor, and if the quirk doesn't fuse well with his, it could probably alter it. Rewind is still a mainly uncontrollable quirk in the current story, and there is probably a good chance of rewind messing with his own quirk control.

    I guess assuming he can just affect matter and reconfigure it and not DNA or genetics cause the bullets affected you DNA your genetics since that what's your quirks are tied to, he can only change not really erase it is my guess

    He could have just broke Eri's quirk. Her quirk is called a mutation, a random quirk unrelated to her family's abilities. So he could have just, taken her grandfathers quirk info and used his quirk to just replace her Rewind with that quirk and called it a day.

      Maybe, but doing that would still have required him to touch her with his hand to alter her quirk factor, wouldn't it? Since she can't control her quirk, she might turn him into a baby when he touched her. That's too huge a risk when he could just keep her around or kill her.

    It's so funny seeing people commenting that Overhaul needs to *"Touch/have contact"* with an object or the phobia
    When: 1) Shiki had the "same" problem of needed to contact (and not just contact, but fully 5 finger the container), but now it's something he can literally touch air and *Puff.* With is something overhaul could come up to be with more time (and maybe less holdback on the character itself)
