- When Chris and Jordan received the location of a couple production lenses that Canon wouldn't let photographers buy, we knew we had to check it out, no matter the cost (to Jordan)!
Special thanks to Levi Holwell and Kai Niccolls for help shooting the intro. Thanks to Evelyn Drake for shooting the episode.

Fun Fact: The Yongnuo lens put the release button on lens to claim that it is not "Canon RF" mount, but their own mount that is 'unexpected' to be fitted to Canon RF bodies. The lens is upgraded and on Chinese market now, as it is not legally Canon RF mount (according to Canon's patent), so Canon cannot sue Yongnuo. If you ask Yongnuo customer service if they have Canon RF mount lens, they will definitely tell you 'NO', but if you ask whether they have lens that can be used on Canon camera but not EF mount lens, they will reply 'YES'
Love it.
Just about to say this. They call it something other then RF. It could be translated to something like "multipurpose mount". They posted a video putting it on a R6.
suck shit Canon.
@@yuxuanhuang3523 Yeah call it multipurpose mount and say its CAN version or just big red C
@@yuxuanhuang3523multi-spec 😏
Before RF: Canon
After RF: Cannot
That is great. Canon is the brand of cannot, because you cannot afford to buy their expensive lenses, you cannot buy 3rd party AF lenses for your Canon, you cannot be very smart to buy into the system of Cannot. LOL
That intro was so amazing! 😂 Glad I could help y’all with this video! And glad Jordan wasn’t held indefinitely by an overly litigious camera manufacturer!
Just think, there is probably a small group of engineers and managers at Sigma that have a full collection of unreleased 1.4 RF primes that they use regularly.
If you work at Sigma you get executed for using anything BUT Sigma camera.
But why? Sony has amazing bodies they can use their sigmas on lol
@@SMGJohn Soooo, how they test the lenses?
@@dtibor5903 with specialized lab equipment. no one in the industry tests with cameras. the lenes are built to a spec and the specifications will be measured, for example with a MTF measurement setup (an optical one) or with wavefront sensors (if the quality of the lens is high enough. photo lenses don't have high quality, microscope lenses are high quality and most often diffraction limited)
@@dtibor5903they fell off a truck and given to Tokina to sell 😂
This is the reason Canon never crossed my mind when moving to mirrorless. You guys are getting the old CamerastoreTV vibe back. Great.
It's such a betrayal to loyal customers who want unique 3rd party lenses that Canon don't have any equivalent of, like Sigma 14/1.4. Imagine being an Astro shooter with an R5 but Canon literally won't let you use the best lens on your camera. I'd be pissed.
@@fotografalexandernikolis What do you expect from a company that makes a "cine" camera whose sole video output is micro-HDMI?
@@SoundOfYourDestiny Oh I know of their stupid limitations all too well, because they know they can do anything and people will still throw money at them.
@@fotografalexandernikolis sigma also excluded nikon from this lens... so not really a fair statement.
@@SuperMeganMassacreis that true or did Nikon block them from making it?
No lie, your little intro video was 1000x better than what other youtubers put out whenever they do a short film or try to act "serious" and they just come off being cheesy. If there was ever time aside to create a short film say when the Panasonic S1H II gets announced and they give your team a test unit, my vote is another cinematic opener like the one here you did in this video! Well done Team 👏
This episode feels like an old camerastore video LMAO!
Fuji was also very restrictive at the beginning with the 3d party lenses. In the end they give in. Canon will do too hopefully.
as long as they're the market leader, they wont. Market leaders will be bad to customers. The small guys will be good to customers.
I really hope so as I am just a hobbyist looking for low priced but great performing lenses such as the viltrox rf 85mm which was banned.
@vincentnavea6999 if you are a hobbyist then I am sorry, you should have gone for Sony. As you will never find those lenses on Canon.
They will when it's mature. They will let 3rd party to fill the gap that Canon doesn't want to fill. Maybe the cheapo $100 one
@@gamebuster800Canon was also the market leader during DSLR when they allowed 3rd party lenses. This blockage just makes zero sense.
In my opinion, Canon's ban on 3rd party AF lenses has hurt them most with their crop sensor cameras. There COULD have been any number of 3rd party lenses immediately and readily available for the R7, R10 etc., if Canon had simply allowed it. It has probably cost Canon some crop sensor RF mount camera sales... sent potential customers over to Sony, Fuji, etc. where those lenses are available.
They don't take crop sensor seriously. The closest they have ever come to making a high-end crop sensor camera was the 7D Mark II. They still have it in their heads that full frame is for more serious shooters, which is a silly concept. What's funny is that a lot of fanboys have fallen for this thinking as well.
As good as the 7D Mark II was in a lot of ways, it was still nerfed in some very significant ways such as its lack of touchscreen even though it was the first camera to have video autofocus.
That intro was epic! 😂
wouldn't hate the closed ecosystem so much if Canon actually had a complete lineup of lenses but they're taking forever.
That's kinda it. Some dweeb CZcamsr did a huge video about how canon was right to close the mount and by God there are patents and rights and all that jazz. Coolest of stories. But he did not really have an answer to the practical problem of locking RF down and then it falling asleep at the wheel. There is no sense in denying users options outside first party and then not providing a full range of prices and focals within the first party.
What are holes in the lens line up that need filling?
Why I went for sony
@@adamwhittingham86Are you often in the habit of asking questions as a way to avoid saying what you really want to say?
@@POVwithRC was it 'camera conspiracies'?
used to love canon. moved fully into nikon mirrorless and couldn't be happier
To be fair, Nikon aren’t any better, rebadging older Tamron lenses then charging a premium for it. I moved to Sony, it’s the only option if you want freedom of choice at any budget.
Nikon is still asleep when it comes to mirrorless cameras😂
You have to have a severe case of fanboyism to say that Nikon doesn't take mirrorless seriously. They've put out some top notch cameras and lenses.
Some of the Tamron designs have been a bit unimpressive for the asking price, but they aren't blocking companies like Viltrox from putting out 3rd party lenses.
@@rodd1000 With an adapter you can mount sony lenses on a nikon, and canon EF. Nikon actually can take more lenses than any other systme. Sorry you switched are lost that freedom of choice.
I enjoy using the Nikon ZF. It performs very well for everyday shooting. I also have the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 for the Z mount and it's a fantastic lens. It's also available for Sony, but not for Canon.
One of the best opening skits that you guys have EVER done! haha good stuff.
... and we don't want to have Canon camera and lenses. Moved to the largest and open Sony ecosystem from Canon, very happy there. Will never move back.
That opening was classic ..... Canon security everywhere 🤣🤣🤣👍👍
A comparison between Canon's affordable RF 85 f/2 and those lenes would have been nice.
Yes, loved it, thanks! It's rare that I get such a laugh from a photography CZcams episode. One stop shopping for uniquely informative, a compelling topic, and great comedy relief in your version of 'Saturday Night Live Photographer'. Thanks again and kind regards.
Amazing video. Thanks so much. What an intro.
Great intro! Nice to see you get the family involved int he shooting, Stay warm.
Cracking intro guys: well done.
The opener is great! Love what you guys bring to reviews.
This entire opening segment was better than the entire Marvel's movie
Lately, that's not a high standard.
At least a couple of friends and I have not considered Canon because of the stupid closed system. It's their business so they can do what they want. But it's our money, so we'll do what we want. Lol
Thanks for the forbidden look! Samyang also had a 14mm in their RF series (of two!). I have the 85mm and find it quite sharp for astro work but with some CA and off axis astigmatism. The focus sometimes gets confused and stuck way out of focus, and can’t be brought back to focus manually. Turning off and on the camera usually clears it up. When it is powered up the 85 usually goes right to infinity focus, which the Canon RF lenses do not. So far, the Samyang 85 is still working despite numerous firmware upgrades to the R5 and R6 that might have bricked it.
That intro was incredible. Lol you guys are just plain excellent!
You know what, I couldn't care less about the lenses, I need more of that opening scene. Time for another short movie?
At least Chris didn't leave Jordan holding the bag.
Thanks Chris and Jordan for this cheeky Video! always a pleasure!
Great intro. I actually have the Samyang RF 85 1.4, I was fortunate to grab it at my local camera store before they vanished from the market. Definitely nice a cost friendly alternative to the high-priced L series lenses.
That opening was great.
Love the intro. Hysterical!
Interesting vid! And I loved the intro 😆
Possibly the best opening sequence on the internet. I laughed, I cried, I hurled…😂
That was a brilliantly funny intro, Jordan stacking it in the snow was gold.
I rly hope he didn't hurt his ankle too badly. I wanted to hear how Chris cursed after he hangs up the call from Jordan (Who's apparently back in his editing room working on the scenes. ) maybe "(oh, ) what a douche. Where was I"
I have another secret lens which is the Viltrox RF 85mm 1.8, which I bought just before the Canon crackdown. I think it is great for the cost, has a couple of flaws but If one is looking for a nice portrait lens at a low cost, like you said, it's great.
Canon is losing photographers by keeping the brands like Sigma and Tamron from making RF glass... they should have already opened that up. I've been shooting Canon since I started and this has made me think about a possible Sony switch.
I don't shot with Canon, but I like your videos so much, that I keep watching them no matter what system you are talking about. Hilarious intro! Love it.
That Samyang 85mm f1.4 was my first prime for the RF. My favourite prime lens. I actually owned two and sold one recently, it’s a shame they are harder to get now.
Very funny, nice work. Reminds me of the Battle at the F-Stop Ridge made for The Camera Store TV
Actually, the samyang 85mm f1.4 is almost as sharp as the canon 85mm f1.2, and sharper than the canon 85mm f2 lens that is similarly priced. This is probably why Canon doesn't want us to buy it :)
I fully agree! The Samyang is very sharp even at f/1.4, so Chris must have a bad copy
Jordan: "Really?!?!" 🤣 That intro was hilarious! Wouldn't mind seeing more of that.
Ooooh, I have a copy of the Samyang 85mm f/1.4! It's a superb lens and I'm super glad I got a hold of one when I did. People who want more in-depth comparisons to the equivalent Canon lens can check out Dustin Abbott's reviews from when it came out (around 3 years ago). I came to much the same conclusions, and while I'll maybe get Canon's 85mm f/1.2 _eventually_, that won't be for a long while. Only major downside to the lens: I actually have no idea if I can even get it serviced if something happens to it, given the circumstances around its discontinuation.
The opening is so fucking good !
Without a doubt, the best opening skit of any of your videos to date.
This intro made my day whole weekend.
I'm a big fan of the Samyang AF 85/1.4 RF and for the last 2 years it's the lens I used the most. I also have the Viltrox RF85 1.8 that feels much slower in autofocus and has problems to focus on low light but is a really great deal for its price. Of course i also had to get the Samyang AF 14/2.8 RF and appreciate it as well. I don't know if it's only me, but it seems to have stronger vignetting on the R5 than on the R6. Maybe i should look for that Yongnuo 85.
If we get really lucky, maybe one day we will get after market RF lenses with image stabilization that will work together with IBIS.
Best intro since F-stop Ridge lmao.
That intro, perfect 🤣🤣 !!
That intro was *chefs kiss* - had to say that before I watch the rest of the episode
Great and amusing intro! 😂😂😂
Great Video!!
There are a couple more like this, like the Viltrox 85mm 1.8 for RF mount, it can still be purchased new but I don't think they make more of them.
great video! i had the opportunity to try out the viltrox 85mm 1.8 for about 3 weeks and loved it. I should have bought that lens. compared to the rf 85mm 1.2 the size is perfect. I wonder if i kept the viltrox 85mm if it would work with future canon cameras or would canon do something to make sure those lens don't work. i really hope canon opens up their lens mount to 3rd party lens like sony and fuji. great intro, love the acting skills!
"Go on without me!" "Okey Dokey!"
😂😂 I love the intro.
10/10 intro, gentlemen. Well done.
Haters will never appreciate the effort required to produce that epic intro scene.
Excellent opening - vibes of the game INSIDE
Great intro!
Best intro yet!
you guys...
I was rewatching "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" the other day and the intro
reminded me of the takedown of the Ian Bannen character in Czechoslovakia...
brilliant!
I happen to have the Samy 85, stopped down to f/2 it’s an absolute dream. No problems with AF as well… so far. I hope some future firmware update doesn’t brick it.
You forgot to mention the Samyang AF 14/2.8 RF. I bought mine off the used shelf in a camera store (which shall remain nameless) before Canon did the big crackdown. It works well, and I use it often. Great for indoor RE shots. Has some pincushion effect but not noticeable to most people.
Loved that opening scene. Haha! Missed those
one of the samyang 85 1.4 rf owner here and still one of my go to lens..love this lens.
The first min earned my big THUMPS UP.
I have the Yongnuo version 1 lens for RF. I like it. Sharp, fast and accurate AF, has some weather sealing. It's got pretty substantial chromatic aberration and vignetting, but apart from that, it's solid.
*For the price*, yongnuo lenses are very good!
I have the Viltrox RF 85mm 1.8 and it’s my workhorse lens. I’ve had it for several years now and it is super fun to use. I believe I paid around 500 bucks for it and the images are beautiful. They’ve recently popped up on Amazon again 😳.
Great and funny episode :D
Amazing intro!
I own a Samyang RF 85mm f1.4😅 It's quite good for portraits imo and keeps up with my child's running speed. As an amateur, I couldn't justify the price, canon was asking for its 85 1.2.... so I jumped the gun on the samyang and it was worth every penny.
Nice new year for you 😊
Sometime this year, I'm going to upgrade from APS-C to full-frame. Don’t know if I'll stay with Sony or switch to Nikon or Panasonic…but I _know_ it won’t be Canon, just because of this issue.
Friggin brilliant concept! 😅
What an incredible opening 👏
we need more videos like this
At last - a video content you guys are capable of.
The Viltrox that I bought with my mirrorless Canon is the only lens I use despite also owning the EF adapter. Great video.
I'm holding out till February when supposedly there will be some kind of announcement from Sigma potentially with RF mount lenses. Then I will reassess my lens line up
That intro went so hard!
I'm only a few minutes into the intro video and I love it.
Good job with the opening skit.
You guys are the best
As a lifetime Canon SLR/DSLR shooter, I have switched over to Sony long before Canon finally went mirrorless. Canon is just Canon always sitting on its laurel not willing to give in to what the average consumers are asking for. Its anti-competitive move is not a surprise to me. I have recently also picked up a Nikon Zf for nostalgia and was surprised how good its AF capabilities are even with adapted Canon EF glass. I think I am liking the Z mount mirrorless system. Nikon did all the right moves and definitely deserved my money spent on it. Its Z 24-200mm and 26mm pancake are both fantastic and exactly meet what I need. In fact, they don't even overlap with my other Sony mirrorless system I have been shooting with. The Megadap adapter is just a godsend allowing me to use a couple of Sony Zeiss glass that I love. It's also the accessibility to Zeiss and Tamron that I have decided to stay away from Canon mirrorless. BTW, all Canon speedlites from its DSLR era are now crippled by Canon's decision to lock out third party compatibility on the RF body's hotshoe. Isn't it lame?
I am in the same boat. I have 2 Sony bodies and a slew of lenses, but I will rent out the Nikon Zf as I am very intrigued by it. Good to know about the megadose adapter
Best intro 👏
Missed opportunity to have a cute puppy run up and "attack" Jordan after you left him. 😂
I'm not sure third party lens manufacturers feel like they've been litigated by a cute puppy.
@@Paul_Rohde regardless if it would be a full blooded doberman or a cute golden retriever pup, I doubt it is the dog that put out the legal restrictions.
It would just have been an addition to the overall comedic effect of the entire skit.
@@Wistbacka I viewed the intro like an analogy. Canon pickups aren't going around chasing individuals with third party lenses, but Canon has menaced lense makers for real, like the two lead characters were menaced. You can look at them representing lens makers. A cute puppy wouldn't cut it for the feels! Ha ha. Nothing too serious.
@@Paul_Rohde Of course it is an analogy for that.👍🏼 But it is also a parody of all typical spy movies as well. And there's an obvious comedic element to it all with Chris's and Jordan's.... Umm.. A-tier acting. So I wanted to puppy for that reason.
Also, you can never have too much cute puppies. 🥹
@@Wistbacka I suppose so. (BTW, the acting was A-grade haha).
That intro...! so good! I how does the Yongno compare to the Canon 85 1.8?
The Samyang 85 f/1.4 mark 1 is a wonderful lens. Did great at the last wedding.
Hey Chris, I love the videos. I live in Calgary and I am wondering what are some of your most favorite places to shoot in Calgary?

I use my canon 85mm 1.8 USM with the adaptor, snappy, sharp and light weight, around 150-200$ used, happy days.
Great fall Jordan!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
the Samyang RF 85mm 1.4 is incredibly sharp! I LOVE LOVE love it! Autofocus is fast! keeps up with my fast moving 5 year old! everything said here is incorrect. Truly a great lens in every way. I also have the updater tool.
Have shot the Samyang, it’s a banger!
Each time I saw someone in the background, always thought that was Jordan 😂😂
This is why I bought a couple of EF to RF adapters and just use all of my EF lenses. Canon's RF lineup is a bit lacking right now.
Yongnuo 85mm f/1.8 is amazing! using it from the beginning on my Sony , the best value
I was lucky to buy the Samyang AF 14mm 2.8 RF while it was available. It has become my favorite lens for buildings, landscapes and astro, perfectly working on the R5. It's a shame they had to withdraw it, too.
I have a samyang/rokinon 85 1.4. I like it, but I don’t use it a whole lot. I have some cool portrait type pictures I’ve taken with it.
I tried to see recently if there was any kind of additional firmware update since I bought it, since I upgraded cameras, but it won’t even connect to the computer app to update anymore.wonder if they cut off updates when canon sent a cease and desist type of threat.
There is also a Samyang 14mm AF, which I was able to get before Canon pulled the plug.
I have the Samyang 14mm lens on my R5, it's a lovely bit of glass, and didn't cost an arm and a leg.
