I Tried an LFM ACC Nordschleife Race… and I’m RAGING! 😡

  • The Nordschleife has finally arrived on Assetto Corsa Competizione… 25km and 154 corners of Green Hell. And today, there’s a staggering 81 cars on track.
    The result? A complete and utter SHAMBLES! You will NOT believe what happens in this race. The first lap alone contains more carnage than I’ve ever seen before. All in all, it’s safe to say my introduction to the ACC Nordschleife was one of the toughest challenges I’ve EVER faced.
    It’s a slightly longer CZcams video today, but I urge you to stick with it - you’re going to see complete chaos, from the first lap to the last. The levels of aggression on track are insane… and so are some of the crashes!
    It’s the Nordschleife Sprint Cup on Low Fuel Motorsport… a one-hour multi-class race featuring GT3, GT4, GT2 and Porsche Cup cars. And as if things weren’t difficult enough, I’m also having to start at the back of the grid behind a lot of the slower GT4 cars. Technical issues with my wheel and pedals forced me to exit the qualifying session and reconnect them. By the time I got back in, there wasn’t enough time to set a lap time.
    This is going to be the most gruelling ACC LFM challenge I’ve ever faced… wish me luck, I’m going to need it!

    Quick update on this race… to add salt into the wounds, I’ve been docked 16 positions and demoted to 61st 🤦🏻‍♂️ It seems my final 8th lap didn’t count (maybe I didn’t complete enough of it) so I’ve been pushed way down the results. More frustratingly, the driver who caused me to DNF and didn’t drive any further than I did - he was penalised 10 seconds for causing the collision, but was allowed to KEEP his 47th position! So now, I’m feeling even more hard done by! 🤣 Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement, it sure was a wild and crazy race!

    I used to joke on ACC forums that what is the point of wanting Nordschleife when most of the player base can't even keep it on the track racing at Brands Hatch. Nice to see this theory held true. I think ACC has become the go to "my first sim" and it shows that most the player base plays this game like Need for Speed. Either that or they all went to Lance Stroll driver academy.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Yeah I think that’s a very valid observation. I knew there would be accidents, but wasn’t expecting to see SO many SO soon. The GP circuit should have been the easy bit 🤣

    • @snappedbydan
      @snappedbydan Před 4 měsíci +1

      A joke is one but thing but it's simply not a valid observation and doesn't have any basis in reality. Nordschleife is raced on successfully in ACC by hundreds of players every day. This particular video is not a good example of a typical Nordschleife race.

    • @sarahorton9223

      @@snappedbydan It's a joke that's not far off from reality. Not saying every race, or even half the races are like this, but between this, iracing, and AC, I turn to ACC when I want to see, and try surviving carnage. I'd say the requirements for LFM are way too low. I have 25 h in this game with no prior sim experience and managed to get my LFM license. Am I good at the game? absolutly not, I'm a driving hazard as soon as I leave the pits but I still have the option to ruin every race I join in LFM (in split 1 most likely).
      It's a shame they fill split 1 full to the brim when there are rookies who can barely keep it on the track, before opening split 2. Rather make 2 splits with 30 cars instead of one with 60.

  • @pmurraysm

    That was deliberate at the end, brake lights only indicate he was controlling speed to not miss you, you can see by steering input he isn't panicking or adjusting. He should be reported and banned. Rory Alexander had a similar thing with a blocker/rammer on ACC recently

    Yea, that was deliberate trying to be disguised as an accident.
    I have drove countless laps on numerous games, watched the real N24 for the past 7 years, and watched all kinds of content creators.
    That corner is a very easy corner, once you mess up 1 or 2 times, you never mess it up again, everyone knows not to go that deep into the corner before braking.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah, really good point. I said in another reply, that is the section everybody will have practiced more than any other on the Nordschleife. I’ve got to be honest, sadly I’m not sure I see the point of these kinds of races. It’s bizarre to see a kind of Forza mentality taken in an ACC race which is one hour long at the hardest circuit in sim racing. (That might be being unkind to Forza racers).
    Fair play to you for a) trying the race in the first place b) keeping going amidst the madness c) not retiring from sim racing forever after the final lap incident and d) bringing it to us in a very entertaining video!!

      And e) ageing 10 years in one hour 🤣 honestly mate, it was the most brutal race I’ve ever tried. The GP circuit was a mess, and then all the faster guys who got wiped out in T1 were willing to take so many risks to force their way back through. I think for a modest casual like me, it’s too much. I will certainly try it again sometime, but not for a while!

    I’ve just started getting back into ACC and also considering trying lfm again, I’ve had 3 races total using lfm for acc and all 3 were terrible experiences. I’m hoping things have changed. After watching this video, my hopes remain pretty low. With regard to both of your main incidents, the bad rejoin was just terrible luck, I would certainly be reporting for a bad rejoin, the last incident though, I’m not so sure it wasn’t deliberate, literally straight lining that corner it looks very sus. I’d be reporting tbat too for reckless driving. Do the lfm stewards take action for submitted reports? Great vid as always Chris.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks Metz, yeah LFM’s reporting system is excellent. The best out there IMO. All hearings get published on the Discord, with detailed reasoning. This one was undoubtedly a mess, but I think the sheer size of the grid was the biggest cause. It would have been much better to have 2-3 splits, and a bit more room on track! But as it was, people should have been way more careful on lap 1. Don’t be put off by LFM though, I have far more great races than I do bad ones. And even this one was fun (in a sadistic kind of way!) Cheers

    honestly, GT3 is generally full of people who simply cannot drive multiclass outside of the top split and can only just drive the circuit on their own at speed.
    I have been enjoying driving the M2 here, and the M2 class is populated with people who can drive longer multiclass races. on top of that you almost certainly get in to the top split where drivers have more experience and know how to navigate traffic.

I do love the track, one of the very few sim racing tracks I could happily just hot-lap on without getting bored. I’d actually tried a race the previous day, and it was really clean (and relatively non-eventful) thanks to a much smaller grid size. I think the 80+ cars was the main contributing factor to the mayhem. But it created a spectacle that was too good not to make a video of! Cheers for watching 😃

    I feel your pain, Chris. I bought the track as soon as it became available. I spent a week practicing, but even then I couldn't come up with two clean laps to qualify. So I gave up and went back to AC. Your frustrating race is a bit of vindication for me - I do this for fun - not increased stress. In the end I was happy to see you didn't get stuck with a DNF, and you actually ended up placing okay.

It wasn’t easy to get to 8.38 and took me several attempts. I was on the verge of calling time on it too, as it was taking up too much time. But yeah, all the people in this race will have done a lot of laps to be able to lap at that pace cleanly. But I guess it doesn’t count for much in race conditions!

    I can understand you!
    In large grids there are always many different skill levels and that results usually in carnage.
    I changed to the gt4 cars at the Nordschleife until I reached lap times under 9:00 min, so I learned the track and the handling and problems of the gt4.
    Then I changed to gt3 and after 2 laps I made it in 8:19, now I am much more confident at this track and when I'm laping other cars specially gt4.
    The most dangerous cars are the gt2, because they are fast at the straights but slow in corners and are often driven by inexperienced drivers...
    But having fun is the most important in sim racing....

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@chrisrogerssimracing If you need a track guide for the Nordschleife, I can recommend Nils Naujoks guide: czcams.com/video/_nZXSXQFcHM/video.html
      The problem is that in the fast turns the gt4 are often at the edge of the grip level, but the gt3 can go flat out. Overtaking in such a situation is quite risky for both, because in a gt4 you need the whole track. Both drivers have to be aware about the overtake.
      If you want to have more information about the yellow flag situation I can recommend the ACC drive overlays. With that you can see the distance and the side of the incident, this ist quite nice..

I just can't believe the levels of selfish, discourteous, foolish driving on display. I'm also terrified of the Green Hell! I've only ever driven it on some older games like Forza years ago and haven't even gotten the DLC yet. My league is opening next season with Nurbs! At least it will be a smaller group (25-35 cars) of guys who don't normally drive like idiots. In the meantime, I'll just focus on the final race of the season next week at Spa.

    This track is not for noobs, but unfortunately, racing has attracted so many people over the past few years and they are far too aggressive. I know people love this track but, I'm not one of them, especially for racing other people on. It's too narrow, the kerbs are killer and with so many corners it can take a long time to be proficient. You were sooo lucky to make it past the first corner, such a shame a complete idiot spoiled your finish. 😢❤

      Yeah, I was really keen to try it. I did a couple of Nords community races in RaceRoom a couple of years ago, but I’ve never had the chance to do one like this, and make a video on it. I think the huge grid size certainly didn’t help. I was expecting it to be 2-3 splits, rather than one giant grid. I’d actually tried the race twice a day earlier - much smaller grids, and far cleaner. Trouble was, I crashed out early (on my own) in the first, and then got a DQ for forgetting my pit limiter in the second! I wanted to wait for a proper spectacle for the video.. and I got it with this race 🤣

    I feel the game would have been much better off adding two more great tracks vs this one!
    Truth be told there's like 20 people who can put up lap times fast enough to win major events here. Add in the rain every single 24 hour event and it's really not fun.

    Oh boy. What to say about this race? It was fun to watch until the end. Until that obligatory error that was possibly your finest ever drive. The Green Hell is an absolute nightmare to race on at the best of times. You then got caught out by ACCs overly aggressive tyre temperature model. Before you had that early shunt, I was thinking that maybe the best tactic was to pit early to get out of the traffic.
    80+ cars is nuts. I just put my PC together at the weekend with the old configuration (6800XT now back with Overclockers). But 80+ cars would probably kill my 2600, so I'll have to put in the 5800X3D and sort out the error I get with it at the moment.

      My PC was struggling big time with it as well. My FPS was really low, and I had some big stutters (which I never get on ACC). Actually, the video recording masks it well, and it doesn’t look much different to normal. But at the time, while racing, it was a real struggle to concentrate with it being jittery. Good call via the pitstop, I’d planned to pit in at the end of lap 2, but surviving the first lap and getting in straight away, for a clearer track… that sounds far more sensible if I try it again.

    Drivers on LFM in GT3 are just absolutely hideous. There should be a much stricter permit, where you HAVE TO drive all lower classes within 102% of a given laptime to understand each classes lines and then - AND ONLY THEN - you should be allowed to drive GT3 cars.
    We are way faster in a GT2 than 80, more likely 90% of the GT3 drivers on LFM. Yet we get divebombed like crazy because these specialists are not able to understand their car is better on brakes and corner entry and our car is better on exit and topspeed.
    Even worse is the behaviour of GT3 against GT4 cars. In GT4 our races are WAY harder and closer fought than any GT3 on the Nordschleife on LFM ever was so far. There are literaly just thousands of a seconds per lap between cars, not just in Quali but also in the race. Döttinger Höhe pretty much is the only place a GT4 can overtake another GT4. Then some big-brain in his GT3 comes up and videbombs the hell into the "Kleines Karussell" and ruins an entire lap of working the gap to the car in front. Most of the times it is a GT3 that isn't fighting for anything aswell...

      @chrisrogerssimracing  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah, to get competitive at Nords must take a huge amount of time invested. It’s a big risk when survival chances are so low. It took me a couple of hours just to scrape past the track permit time of 8.38. Not a combo I’ll race regularly either, due to time constraints. But I wanted to try it once. It’ll take a while for the bruises to disappear 🤣

    I mean after racing for couple of months on LFM I must say that it's a joke. The platform and whole game is filled with people who have no idea of race craft. That's why I switched to iRacing, sure you come across idiots there too but people are just much more careful

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Před 4 měsíci

      To be fair, I do have lots of clean races in LFM. But when a bad one rolls around, it’s very bad! Also, my rating is pretty low, and it’s very difficult to increase when I only get such limited chances to race. So I’m forever battling in the lowest splits, which doesn’t help.

      After this experience, I’d have to agree. I’ve also discovered that practice is one thing, but race conditions are completely different again. Knowing where is safe to pass, or where isn’t. Holding someone off without making a mistake - exactly like I did near the end. Was quite comfortable lapping on my own, but once I got put under pressure… incredibly tough.

      @chrisrogerssimracing  Před 4 měsíci

      Exactly this! I was terrified of lifting anywhere, as I knew it would just end up with me being rammed from behind. Happened a few times in the early corners. There was a bit of a gap behind me at the end of the first lap but, at those speeds, they’d have all been right back on me in an instant if I’d slowed down. And I’d probably have still hit the guy anyway 🤣

  • @snappedbydan
    @snappedbydan Před 4 měsíci +1

    The REAL problem is lfm making the permit far too easy. FAR too easy. Half of these people shouldn't be racing on this track on LFM. It should be 6 laps under 8.25. No negotiating.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yeah, it surprised me how chaotic it was, given people had to go through the track permit process. I actually found it quite difficult to get, but I’m a total Nords novice. But you’re right, after this race, maybe making people spend a bit longer practicing wouldn’t be a bad thing. Or even have rookie and pro races, like they do with the GT3 Sprints. So under 8.25 to qualify for pro, or 8.26 to 8.38 to qualify for rookies.

  • @brentweir4651

    This is the first DLC that doesn't interest me in the least. I don't have the time to learn the track well enough to feel comfortable. I've tried a bit in GT7, but I always think I'm at a certain point of the track, then get caught out being at a different spot. It's too big for this noob!!

    • @chrisrogerssimracing

    This track is utterly pointless to race on. Great fun to solo hot lap on but as a race track, no thanks. An 8 min version of Monaco and if you stack within the first couple of mins thats the race over. Add in to the mix the level of driving seen here and it shows why i will never race on it.
