- Stellenbosch University Choir from South Africa performing "Indodana" at the Champions Concert in the University of Latvia. Original arrangement by Ralf Schmidt and Michael Barrett, adapted by André van der Merwe.
8th World Choir Games 2014
The video was recorded by Interkultur and Choir TV.
I am playing this for my terminally ill brother, in the ICU at Lahey Medical Center, Burlington, MA. Reason is simply that he deserves to hear the most beautiful and comforting thing on this earth in his last hours here.
How is he?
That's so sad
My heart reaches out to you, Richard, wherever and however you are, as I listen to this for the first time, just now. May your brother be resting peacefully and painlessly now, and your heart and mind be eased and comforted. May you be well. 💗
I'm in tears right now may one day my heart will be healed this song make my heart miss all those who leave me in this without saying any word and decided to go to heaven 😭😭😭
Wow. Speechless
I'm watching this for the 1st time amazing 2024 God is good
This conductor plays this choir like a fine instrument. They respond to his fingers.
Wow
Yes
I've probably watched this video 50 times but I still can't escape without a tear. Gets me every time!! I love this choir!

@@rangahy7751 Is it because it might be the most beautiful music ever?
It's very beautiful. You might be interested in the one sang by University of Pretoria. It's also on CZcams
Indodana is as great a choral masterpiece as any other in the world. And this is as masterful and beautiful a choral performance as you will ever hear, and it shows as clearly as anything why Stellenbosch is the world's greatest choir. By the way, my brother died very peacefully only hours after I posted below. Indodana was on repeat. Thank you Maties.
I feel you 😪
So so sorry.God bless.HE US IN SAFE HANDS
Wow, so sorry about your loss Richard. I read your comment about your brother being in ICU and was so hopeful that he'd make it.🥺❤
So sorry about his demise. May he sing on with the angels🤍
Sorry for your loss. It must have been a comfort to you to see he went peacefully and hope this helped him and the family
Is this not the South Africa that we all dream of :)

SA is great. I know it. It has an energy. That energy is its people. I see it. It is emerging. In fact, it's already there. Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika.
Dean Berzen DEFINITELY WHAT WE NEED
Definitely
Aren't we gonna talk about how great the drummer was too?
In 2020 I'm still watching this 💖
lol me too
2021 and it’s still fire🥺❤️

Wow, so we have people singing like this in South Africa!!! Why don't this kind of music get the kind of exposure it deserves? Yhooo,
Bomi Shinga Indeed, you can say that again.
+Bomi Shinga it's all about sharing , the mpre you share the more we as a choir get recognition . but it's not about the recognition for us it's all about the love of singing and the joy feel when singing :)
The joy is in the faces of everyone on this video and they bring immense joy to those is watch and listen. Bravo! This is indeed very special. I want to share it far and wide. I became aware of it after watching a funeral video of Hanna Cornelius where this music was playing.
Bomi Shinga i
The 2 best choirs in the world at this kind of music are from SA mate. These guys and 'Tuks Camarata Chamber Choir'
The fact that I can only like this ONCE, after watching it religiously for the past 4 years, hurts my soul! EXQUISITE
Yes indeed......Africa is the cradle of civilization. The songs I've heard from the Continent express human emotion beautifully. Although I have heard only a few African songs they never fail to leave a lasting impression. It is the heart that sings in many an African anthem.....Will
+Will Ortiz cradle of civilization? Really?
If you study the evolution of the human race, you will find species that predate Neandertal man such as Lucy who was found in Africa.
+Will Ortiz I was thinking of more recent history, nor pre history.
That does not change the fact that Africa is the birthplace of the human race. It is historical fact....Will
+Will Ortiz 'birthplace of the human race' perhaps. 'cradle of civilization' not so much. When I think of the cradle of civilization I think of ancient Greeks and Romans, and technological inventions like the railway not cave men and bush men. I'll give you the ancient Egyptians but not much good has come out of Africa since then.
Where are all the African inventions?
It's more than singing. I See beatiful people bringing sounds from theirs hearts and souls. I can hear music created with passion, love and dedication. When I close my eyes I can imagine whole world fulifilled with this heavenly sounds. Our better world :)
Best performance of the most beautiful song ever? In any case, thank you South Africa for showing the rest of us what real harmony can be.
I cry everytime. it hits me as an African. so beautiful.
Through the ears to my heart ❤ greetings from germany
Such passion and talent combined in professionalism. Ah! The beautiful sound of South Africa.❤
They sound like angels

Women:
Ngob’umthatile umtwana wakho, uhlale nathi hololo helele
The Lord has taken his son who lived amongst us
Indodana ka nkulunkulu bayi’bethelela hololo helele
The son of the Lord God was crucified.
Men:
Hololo Baba Jehova
Hololo Father Jehovah (Hololo represents crying and has no translation)
Zjem zja baba
Zjem zja father (Zjem zja is expressive with no meaning)
Thanks
Shining Armor Thank you so much
Shining Armor This line
"Ngob’umthatile umtwana wakho, uhlale nathi"
actually means "Because you have taken away your son, please stay with us"
Thank you
Thank yu
Best version ever. My opinion though
Lesedi Cwaile I prefer the Pretoria camerata
Lesedi Cwaile I have heard this sung by so many choirs, only Stellenbosch gives me goosebumps every time!!!👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽
This is one is the best. It's got that thing. It touches my soul
Nicely done but I also prefer the UP camerata one more
I like the partswhen the females slide, as well as the beat of the drum, but
I Wish they took more time with the ends of phrases, especially at the "um twa na ti leh. eh-EH-eh
My twins graduated in June....the high school choir performed this and I was moved to tears. I didn't know what they were singing, yet I was moved. Just learn here what this song means....my spirit knew it before I did, and was moved. The most beautiful song I have ever heard...thank you!
I've hardly heard anything more beautiful than this! :)
It was a true privilege to see the Stellenbosch choir in World Choir games in Riga. Your faces are amazing, your music is amazing. Polished to the detail and so passionate at the same time.
And since I first heard Indodana in this concert (and later outside of the hall on the street), can't get it out of my head. It's giving me goosebumps every time I listen to it.
Is it still the same sentiment?
The first minute is priceless due to conductor's expressions ❤
Please, accept our congrats for the performance, song and, of coarse, the Gold Prize !!!
#credits to the drummer you guys😍😍👌🏾👌🏾😭
Girl at 2:35 closing her eyes.. she's the essence of this song and of the joy for singing in general.
Stellenbosch, you guys deserved 99/100 ;)
loving this collaboration....unite africa unite......wow they are feeling what they are singing
I'm singing this in choir this year and love it sooooo much!
How has the pandemic impacted your rehearsals? Are you back to rehearsing?
@@puopha Choir is much smaller than it normally is and instead of rehearsing in class we would rehearse in the school auditorium where we're more spread out. Unfortunately we can't perform live, so we would record it then post the concert on the school website.
same!!
so lovely it brings goosebumps....the voices are magnificent....and the drumming - takes my breath away!
Still the best rendition of this song. Great harmony, greater lyrics.

one word " EARGASM"
I can't explain how much happiness this version gives me everytime I listen to it. It always manages to give me chills! Magnificent!!
So 'Wololo' started here before Babes Wodumo...... Helele.
How wonderful to see all people coming together as one worshipping God our creator. This how we should always be, different but one. These are golden voices.
Iyoh! I'm so in love with this choir. Really deserving of the top spot in the world. The emotion in their singing... The maturity of expression of being through music. Justice done!
Stellenbosch University Choir has sanctified this song. Truly magnificent! I love that
"sanctified" go fuck yourself, they are too evil to sanctify shit and they dont even know what the meaning of what they are singing is tsek.
What compelled you to make such a fool of yourself, flaunting your embittered small-mindedness so publicly?
+ Nelson, totally agree with you, "sanctified" is not an exaggeration - what we all see and hear in this Stellenbosch choir, not only the best young intellects in SA, is an example of what multicultural synergies can achieve ; )
chumani Mtshixa - you are full of hate ngwana mme. Now i can't speak for how the university functions cause i dont go to Stellies, mara se ke se itseng ke se: Music Unites all, irrespective of cultures - in particular choral music. It is one of the few places where people actually for a split moment experience the transcendence of art beyond cultures, ethnicity and languages. That is the beauty and power of music. Now I'm not a choral expert here, but i have sufficient experience in singing choral music and know this for a fact - one cannot sing a song without knowing what the meaning behind the text is, it is what brings the music to life. It is the internalization and interpretation of music that makes a choir or singer unique and how they deliver it, otherwise people would experience emotion with this a piece of music (Which i'm assuming is what you are feeling - anger that a choir from a university which some see as problematic could perform music of our people and still make it speak.
They are not using black song to make money - at the core of choral music is uniting people from all walks of life through sharing and singing music regardless of where it came from together. Not about money.
The choral space is one of the most unifying spaces you'll ever find in the world. Just open your heart and allow the music to speak to you and not hatred.
I love them they sing with understanding... making it so real. Well-done guys!
5 years later, it still hits hard! I’m in tears 😭 😭😭😭
This is my favorite of this choir.. so beautiful. Goosebumps.. spirit all the way reaching Europe
