Microbiologist here, Trypanorhyncha plerocercoid is a very common parasite on this fish and is harmless to humans, THERE ARE NO WORM EGGS ON THE FLESH OF THE FISH, you can just remove the worm and the fish would be completely safe to eat, of course, I understand most people would find it repulsive.
Love the channel! Best regards from Tijuana México.

Wonderful to hear. When I was younger my granddad caught a big blue while surf fishing and the meat had black and white spots in it plus worms so we threw it out. Do you have a resource that fishermen can go to figure out what is bad and what is not bad as far as parasites go? I've heard if you cook meat well enough you can kill the parasites anyway. Once I saw the chinese guy who complained of itchy skin and they found worms covering his body head to toe from eating sushi I stopped eating sushi immediately.

Nitro, thanks for the post! Any Idea What Exactly Causes the Fish to have Worms in the first place?

    • @thelostsparten
      @thelostsparten Před 4 lety +8

@@John_Conner222 in most cases from what ive seen, if a fish has parasitic worms and is going to be used for sushi, it must be frozen at or below a certain temp and for a minimum amount of time. This ensures the worms are killed and are harmless. I remember the story you are talking about and the issue was the prep needed wasnt done. That being said cooking the meat will kill them as well much like how when you cook any meat it kills bacteria. To be as safe as possible the freezing and cooking should ensure that they are dead and harmless. That being said I am no expert and am only relaying information that I am aware of.

@@patriotpioneer well this worms are pretty much like human flatworms (Taenia solium) that we could get by eating infected undercooked pork meat. In this case, the cycle is like this first there's a shark that has the adult form of the worm in it's intestines, the worm produces eggs that are expelled with the shark's feces, little crustaceans eat the feces infected with eggs, then a small fish eat the crustacean, the amberjack eats the small fish and gets the worm into it's flesh, finally a shark eats the amberjack getting the worm and begining a new cycle.

Hey Rob! Jimmy from Boynton.. I have caught a lot of sea trout and they were full of worms.. I found that when you first filet the fish if you run fresh water! Not salt water.. over the meat the worms do not like the fresh water and will vacate the meat..
Just keep the water flowing over the meat and run your hand down it and the worms will drop out.. Try this on the next one you see with worms see what you think!👍🏻 It’s a shame to waste a nice filet like that.. God bless! Keep posting those videos!👍🏻 Hope this helps!!

I live in Australia and am a huge fan of DMFD. I decided to give Everglades seasoning a try after seeing Rob use it on everything.
Unfortunately, I did not think it was very good, the seasoning seems too salty and has a mediocre flavor. I tried the everglades regular and fish and chicken.
I think you can buy seasoning a lot better for much cheaper. One of my favorite seasoning is Masterfoods Garlic Steak.
If you guys like Everglades, all the good for you.
If you guys know of any good seasoning please list down below.

up north we deal with worms in our cod....we fillet and skin them and hold the fillets up to a light and you can see the worms through the meat. We take them out before fridge or freezer packing. Some folks won't eat even after we de-worm them, some of us just deal with it. No shame in it, it is a big icky when you think about it. Good vid bud, hope you and yours are staying healthy!

HI Rob, Love the channel. Your little bird friend is an American Redstart (male). He's probably on his northward migration toward the midwest US from over wintering in Cuba or the northern areas of South America. He probably got a little tired and said...yeah that's a cool boat with some rocking fishing action...I'll pop in and take a look and a rest before heading along. Awesome fish! I sure wish I could come down and do some fishing with you. All I've ever caught salt water fishing was some lady fish. - Loving the channel!

Hey Rob, these worms often just live in the guts of the fish and only go inside the meat when the fish got killed. So get rid of them just after catching the fish and u will get wormless fishmeat. In germany we often got worms in the pikeperches and in the cods and we solved the problem like i discribed. Maybe it will help u too.
Keep up that nice work. :)

. . . I thought about your friend catching the drone - The first time I went fishing on a large pier with my first pole, I started to cast my line when a huge Pelican flew over me (it seemed as big as I was at the time) and caught my line. I started screaming as the Pelican lifted me off the ground. All I could think about, it was a long way down to the water and that was where I was heading. Thankfully I was rescued with the aide of a fisherman who grabbed me, then the pole, unhooked the Pelican and it flew off. I was too scared to fish for a long time after that. 🙄

If the rice alone doesn't fix it. Put it back in the bag with new rice and wrap it in a heating pad on low or medium heat for a day then wait 2 days and try it. It revived an iphone that didn't work with rice alone. I continued to work for 3 more years until we traded it in. Good Luck!

I worked at Captain D's 27 years ago in North Florida. We would get cases of Alaskan Pollack which would fill in when we ran low on Cod. The pollack would have to be de-wormed by a teenager. Luckily I had great eyesight and was the deworming expert. If we tossed the pollack, we would have no fish. The kicker was the pollack was tastier and we had better reviews when we served it!! I ate it, and agreed that it tasted better, I'm glad it wasn't the primary though. Lot's of work. We had a lighted board that we placed the fillets on to see the worms easily....
