Both Zabka and Macchio appeared in the show and Zabka was even in Barney's wedding

This pilot episode is pure gold. The title ‘ace degenerate’ , the music and the memories. Straight to hall of fame.
Season 1 Johnny: a complete drunk loser who has no family.
Season 5 Johnny: a complete family man with two sons, a GF, and a baby along the way.
That is one hell of a complete arc in television history.
Yet, he still maintains his edge
Honestly after watching this show I see that Johnny was never a bad guy just a man the world hasn't been kind to. And it seems like the world still isn't being kind to him.
I think this whole series is to show that there is two sides to each story
Yeah whole point of this show was to change the perspective on Johnny
It’s somewhat evident in the original Karate Kid as well. You can see he was annoyed at Kreese when he told Bobby to break Daniel’s leg. Then after he lost, he congratulated Daniel. And then Kreese started strangling him in the parking lot. Johnny really was never the bad guy; he had a terrible influence in Kreese and Daniel kinda unknowingly provoked him.
Same thing for both of them if you want the karate kid
After watching this I learned they’re exactly the same just a different type of story same obstacles in life different choices
As sad as Johnny's life was before he opened Cobra Kai, he did manage to stay away from drugs and being homeless...

I love how the creators really stuided the movie..When Daniel sad in KK1..his uncle louie..they gave him a cousin Louie (presuming its his son) also how Johnny was a bully (Oh he had it rough at home with his annoying stepdad) They did a wonderful job.
William Zabka deserves more recognition as an actor. He's very talented. It's sad Hollywood only gives oportunities to the same big names every year.
I think both him and ralph are great actors.

Remember being absolutely hooked on the first season back in 2018 and now in 2022, this show's 5 seasons in and still going incredibly strong and is still just as bingeable. Huge props to the writers and actors for delivering one of the best TV experiences I'll ever have.

Johnny always had a way of curing people, he cured miguel's asthma, made hawk, cured miguel's coma, and most importantly, he made season 3 come out a week earlier and saved us from waiting and boredom

I remember watching the first season way back in my 7th grade year, now I’m in 11th grade waiting for season 5 to be released sometime this year. Time flies so fast lol, never thought this show would have gotten more seasons or the popularity it has now. Gotta thank it for inspiring me to take karate and get out of the house to do physical activity cuz otherwise I’d still be spending my days playing video games like a nerd (which is something I still do just not as often).

I'm an 80's kid and this hit all the marks. I was like a little kid again watching these first two episodes. We've been waiting over 30yrs for this and it's paying off in a big way. Johnny's attitude, car, music, the story... couldn't be better, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GIVE US MORE SEASONS!!!!

5 seasons in, I still can't believe how this show came literally out of nowhere! Like many, when I first heard of this, my first thoughts were of disdain. My God was I wrong! This show is truly something special!
From the ending of this first episode, as soon as the epic music kicks in and Johnny's monologue starts, I was done, hooked for good :)
Just watched all three original films ... absolute classic. Can't believe how well they made this TV show, it really is a beautiful continuation of the movies and 3 decades later ! amazing.

Growing up seeing Johnny as the villain of Karate Kid, it's awesome how this series shows things from his perspective, and that there's a lot more gray than black and white. Looking forward to Season 3.

I watched Cobra Kai as it aired, especially Seasons 1 and 2 on CZcams Red. The show has become 1 of the best shows of all time and arguably the best legacy sequel to any big franchise. over 5 years later, and the show has pretty much gotten better and crazier with each season. Now, we just wait patiently for the final season, and I could not be any more excited. COBRA KAI...NEVER DIES!

Man still have no idea how this show ended up working. I remember when CZcams came out the first trailer. Who would’ve thought all these years later they’re five seasons in show gets better and better. They really took the karate kid they already belonged franchise. had a crazy idea took a shot and it actually worked out. This is the only legacy series that does its original justice.

I think when he lost the tournament he was actually embarrassed and the tournament spectators such as freddy fernandez and his so called buddies were ever so excited for danny larusso winning the tournament so either johnny changed high schools or perhaps he simply dropped out though , I think johhny likely completed his own education

It seems the show rewrote that part, because Johnny was already up and handing Daniel the trophy when the announcer said his name as the new champion. I think that's just how Johnny remembers it in his mind in 2018 after 34 years of bitterness about Daniel's life getting better after that, and his own life going downhill.
that's true. Jhonny was very good to Daniel on many occasions, he was just very badly influenced by his sensei. Jhonny deserves to be the protagonist of this series.
Cobra Kai is a dream come true for an oldschool Karate Kid fan. Macchio and Zabka are still magic on screen together. My favorite film rivals of all time.
I’m so impressed that a legacy sequel to The Karate Kid in the form of a tv show over 30 years after the original movies is this good. I’m especially surprised that CZcams would be the one to make this show.

"Cobra Kai" is actually much better than I thought it would be. I thought it was going to be corny. We get to see the progression of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso and their lives. I'm hooked now!

Johnny in the pilot perfectly represents a man who has lost everything due to the mistakes he made. He lost his love, his friends, his relationship with his son, and his mom, who was probably the only person left he had who still loved and supported him. I’m not saying he didn’t drink before, but after she died, he probably becomes an alcoholic to drown his sorrows. The only reason he gets out of this hole is because of Miguel. Without him, Johnny probably would have died due to liver failure or getting in a drunk car crash.
I love seeing the first episode when we are close to the sixth season and seeing how all the characters, especially Johnny, had a great development.
Honestly after watching this show for days I really don't want it to end I'm so obsessed with it that I decided to come right back to CZcams in order to watch the pilot episode before I switch over to watching all the other ones online

The ending of this episode is so critical. The original antagonist becomes the protagonist. It instantly gives you goosebumps. Who wouldn't binge after knowing this turnover!!

Love this show! It hits you right In the nostalgia for sure! I get that it's a joke but this show makes it seem like johnny just woke up from a coma after 35 years 😂, I get that he is clearly In a state of arrested development though....

Like many others from Gen X, I went through three phases with this show.
1. See Cobra Kai advertisement and laugh.
2. Watch first ten minutes of Episode 1, hoping for a laugh.
3. Finish Episode 10 with my jaw on the floor.
This series has to be the story of the year. So well done, as chronicled by other commenters, and such a surprise (shock, really) seeing how wonderful it was. The Karate Kid is part of Gen X lore, granted -- it feels like we grew up with these characters. But I think if I had to put my finger on the magic for a certain generation, it would be the fact that Daniel and Johnny (Ralph and William) were my age in 1984, and are still my age in 2018, with 30+ years in between. The show does such a fantastic job of filling in those years as lived by their fictional characters, but lived in real life by us... as if they'd never left. From youth and adolescent struggles to kids, house, and career. Where the heck did the time go?
This is so obviously a labor of love. Please, please, please do well by Season 2. LOVED the final scene. And where the heck is Elizabeth? You guys managed to rope in just about everyone else.

not gonna lie. I grew up watching the karate kid (which i love) and I already knew this was not going to be good - I actually thought it would be garbage.. Boy was I wrong. This has really pulled me in and now I have to watch this complete series. Hats off to youtube for this.

No, punches to the face aren't allowed. Kicks to the face are extremely common in karate. A tournament that bans kicks to the face would be... very weird. (Which is why the judge doesn't say anything, as it was a completely legal move.)

This shows you Johnny Lawrence wasnt the bully but actually the good guy in a bad situation. Love how they did this movie. Now this is how it is done movie makers
He absolutely was a bully, but what I like about this is showing he wasn't one dimensional and had problems too (being forced to do that kick by his mentor, having a shitty father and no positive figure). It also shows how LaRusso changed for the worst, got a big ego and commercialized Miyagi's lessons for self-gain. I think the show is gonna teach us how people can turn themselves around for better and worse, and that the past can't define a person forever.

Kelly Joule Danny’s who doesn’t really seem to be out of hand tbh. He handled the situation with Johnny really well but I agree using the he shouldn’t be using karate as a slogan. At least not to the extent that he is.
First it was just Johnny's perspective after he lost and then got older, living in the current modern day of the world. And then it became something EVEN bigger than that. It became something FOR EVERYONE.
This takes me back. I was seventeen when the Karate Kid came out in the summer of 84. Nice memories.
