  • Hello! I have just done a quick overclock on my GPU. If you want to see more tests done, comment below on what you'd like to see! I will also include thermal performance as part of the stress tests.

    If you have any tests in mind that you'd like to see the results of, just comment down below and maybe I can make a video about them.
    If you want to know how I overclocked the GPU, reply to this comment and I will make a video if enough people would find it useful.

      For Testing can you play any graphic intensive game(like cyberpunk) before and after overclocking to see how much of fps gain we can achieve.

      @Ranjith Tevnan Yes, you can certainly do that. For more consistent results though I would recommend using a benchmark of some sort, just so that you can compare identical situations. Good ones are heaven and 3d mark. I use Kombustor just to check stability rather than FPS improvement.

    Is it safe to overclock my rtx 3060 (100 watt) Hp omen 15 to (130 watts)? If its good than how should I do it?

    • @nighteye5253
      @nighteye5253  Před 2 lety

      @Xeh Jeung You will not be able to change the power limit in the laptop. You can only do that for desktop cards afaik. You can still overclock the core and memory clocks, which will still provide a good bump up in performance.
      I have a video on how to overclock the GPU.
      Edit: some laptops do allow to change the power limit through their own software (not afterburner), but that's not the case for most laptops. The omen does not allow that.

    Is there a significant performance increase by overclocking on gaming? Taking in consideration the temperature, stress, etc.

    • @nighteye5253
      @nighteye5253  Před 2 lety

      @José Ringa The one game I play is capped at 60 FPS, and I reach that without the overclock. So it's hard for me to quantify in games. The only thing I can say is that I get higher "1% low" fps, so I guess I just have a smoother experience overall in my case.
      You definitely do better in terms of graphics score in benchmarks. I have a video where I quickly showed the result of a quick overclock on my laptop.
      Generally, it is worth overclocking as the GPU usually has more thermal overhead compared to CPUs in laptops. Even if you do decide to overclock, it is likely you will not encounter any thermal issues when it comes to the GPU. But do keep an eye on temperature. Anything higher than 80 would start to worry me. Anything above 85 and you will likely start to throttle.
      In my case though, I reach peak temperatures of 72C with some quick dirty overclock, so I definitely can afford to overclock further, provided that it's stable.

    By how much MHz did you overclock?

    • @nighteye5253
      @nighteye5253  Před 3 lety +6

      @Aneesh S. Initially I pushed the core clock by 175 MHz and the memory clock by 800 MHz. This was stable during the few minutes of testing on Kombustor. 900+ on the memory would give me arctifacts.
      However, that is an extreme case. Any higher than that and the software would crush. So, I left it at 150MHz and 700MHz.
      After a few hours of gaming, the game would crush, so I kept reducing the core clock by 10 MHz and the memory by 50 MHz until it no longer happened.
      At the end of the day, it really depends on how lucky you are with the graphic card. I believe it's known as silicon lottery. I couldn't push my card very far on the core clock.
      However, as a start, I recommend 100MHz on the core and 500MHz on the memory for the 1660ti. It should be able to handle that. But from there you can increase or decrease and check for stability.
