  • This is the first Lexus Hybrid! It's still running like-new after all these years AND miles. What a gem of durability, reliability, economy, and of course LUXURY. It is still on its first hybrid battery to boot!

    My 2008 RX400h has 246k miles and is running strong on the original hybrid battery. Outside of routine maintenance, I’ve replaced a radiator fan, front wheel bearings, rear hatch struts, and the hatch handle, which had disintegrated into a mess that left gummy black rubber on fingers when used.
    It’s had the timing belt and water pump replaced twice. That’s the most expensive routine maintenance item to watch out for when buying a high mileage older Lexus.

    • @noobguy57
      @noobguy57 Před 7 měsíci

      Mine is 175k and I have re-done most of the brakes, and radiator under warranty. I swapped that hatch handle too. Spark plugs at 170k. Rear struts soon for me! I think I'm going to save up and do the timing belt and water pump at 200k. Hybrid battery I got tested and still has about 70% of its original capacity! What an incredible car!

    I have a 2008 RX400H, and it's black and beautiful. It's a 14 year old Lexus that still looks better than most new cars on the road. I recently had a new abs actuator installed, timing belt kit, new tire and tpms, battery, oil change, still have to do emergency brake repair and replace HID bulbs and she will be all set for 200,000 mile mark repair/maintenance list. She just hit 205k. Original hybrid battery. (knock on wood). I live in New England, and there is nothing like stepping out of the cold winter air into a Lexus with heated leather seats. ☺️ I also like the way the HID headlights move around when you turn the key. I get alot of compliments about that car. I had a 2021 RX350 as a loaner for a little over a week, and I honestly wanted my 2008 back. I see other RX400H and 450H with over 365k original miles. The only thing that sucks is you have to remove headlights to change HID bulb, aside from that, solid, reliable, dependable, comfortable, and classy.

    My dad had one of these, a 2008 model in the dark grey colour which he just sold late last year. Beautiful car and being a Lexus will last a long time. We sold ours with 200,000km on the clock. We are from Australia so a few things are different but otherwise very much the same.
    In terms of the 'PWR DOOR' button in the front it needs to be held down for a few seconds before it opens the trunk. Also the sunroof stops at that position when you open it to reduce the loud noise that you would hear when driving with it fully open.

      @Mr. Cairo Funny you say that, we bought ours from Lexus of Chatswood. My Dad bought the hybrid over the 350 as he didn't want to have to fill it up as often due to him driving a long way to work everyday. He tried diesels from Mercedes and BMW beforehand but found the Lexus to be much more efficient as well the fact that it drove much nicer. He was so happy with that car though that in 2018 when he sold it he didn't even bother looking at other brands he just went an bought the new RX450h which is another great car.

Same thing on my 2008 ES350, the sunroof stops before it opens all the way. The blue doorsill Lexus logos are orange in the regular 350, I really like the blue on this one! The last major thing I noticed on the interior were the gauges, they're quite a bit nicer on this model. On the RX350, it's the regular old Toyota trip/miles odometer. The cruising range, average speed, and mpg is located in the center screen on the regular gas version.

Also, the road noise/motor whine is unacceptable in a car of this original price range. The car reviewed here also is equipped with a 'towing package' which has better transmission cooling and has tow light connectors hidden in the back cargo area that can be accessed further. I installed an after market Class III hitch that cost $125. If you get this AWD car stuck in mud or snow you will wish there were an easier way to turn off the traction control system! Apparently there is a complicated way to enter a "maintenance mode" to do it - Look up "Brake dance". Ugh. I would expect this car to sell around $ 9,500 - $10,750 in my area in 2019.

    I dislike some of the odd and older style features compared to the same model years Prius, though there are also perks as you'd expect. The basic key instead of proximity key. The standard shifter instead of the smaller selector (smaller one in Prius makes more sense to me as Hybrid). Having to look through the steering wheel at speed instead of up near windshield. But I guess that's because it also comes as a standard car with standard auto trans.

      Is it on the original battery? If so I'd pass. From what i've heard is that these batteries start degrading around 10 years. You'd be better off with a 330 or 350.

      Are the batteries that hard to replace? I bought a Prius that needed a battery, bought it (battery) and replaced it myself using a CZcams tutorial. I'd guess the Lexus is the same. Battery should last 10 years from new average.

    Is it risky with generator and battery packing up when this car is 100k miles or 10 year old? Or is the longevity is much longer? This might be stupid question but any input are appreciated.

      I've heard rumors that the batters start to deteriorate around 10 years, but I have no evidence for that. I would have better piece of mind with a non-hybrid of this era.
