Honestly, the fact that Trump was president baffles me. He was, and still is, the laughingstock of the world.

I didn't vote for Trump in '16 but I feel like, at the time, the temperature of the average person in the country was that they wanted something different than the normal political families that were always on the ballot. I personally was surprised when he was elected but I thought that maybe there was a chance he could be a great President as an outsider. I thought, as I'm sure many others did too, that his insane rhetoric would stop once he was in office and realized how serious the job was... I was wrong.
Ordinary, and I mean ordinary, Americans came out of the woodwork to vote for him. That scares me, and it should scare every American.
How can a veteran support a man calling wounded veterans losers and refusing to lay a wreath on a soldiers grave in France? Pure idiocy.

I have a friend in one of the mid states who used to rave about Trump and then she and I started to talk and have long conversations about politics which we’d never done before and she realised that she had been blindly following what her husband, in-laws and friends around her had been saying like it was gospel. I at least helped her to check out her facts before just following their lead. She was welcome to believe what she wanted, but to at least be well informed first, because you can lead a horse to water but if it chooses to drink the Koolade 🤷🏻♀️🫣🤔

I work on keeping an open dialogue with my friends and acquaintances. It's hard in the Midwest. I focus on the few that are receptive. Or democracy depends on them realizing what they are doing.

I used to think, for years, that these people should take IQ tests, but I've been thinking about it all wrong. They should also take psychological tests. Being this blindly loyal to anyone, let alone someone as dangerous as Donald Trump, is deeply concerning on an intellectual and psychological level.
I want to see the statistics on how many of them passed High School, and then an investigation into the miracle of how that happened.
not a study of trump supporters specifically, but there are some interesting studies that have been done on Big Five personality traits of conservatives vs. liberals, as well as which values tend to be more common based on political ideology (using the Schwartz Value Inventory). def worth a google scholar search (genuinely!)
@@JustSomeGuyInTheMtnsI can tell you that point blank. They have different standards for certain people that have certain types of learning curves. I was in a special education program for emotional reasons and I was helping to teach them basic math and English at 17 years old They are allowed a full high school diploma even though they only took remedial classes the whole time. There were more people like that in my special education classes than there were like me by a long shot. It seems a little unfair that their diploma means just as much as mine if I'm being honest, especially since I knew half of them were just lazy and didn't want to learn anything. The amount that actually had a legitimate learning disability was surprisingly low. I've literally known kids with down syndrome that outperformed these people, it's not a mystery to me.
