  • Evinrude used a nifty carburetor for their 4 hp outboard, but their user manual is a bit sketchy on how it is supposed to work. There is a scarce amount of information online about these old carburetors. This is video diary of how to strip and clean it, along with a description of the various air and fuel passages.

Good video, I was hoping you would be going through the setting up of the low and high speed jets after assembling and installing the carb. I am having quite the go around with my 74 Johnson 4 hp..and since this carb is pretty much the same was hoping for some pointers.

If the carb has the nylon rod for the float hinge, be sure to get a brass or SS one to replace it! Those plastic parts will get attacked by ethanol, swell up, and jam the float resulting in either fuel starvation or flooding.

Where are your needles, are they the same or which one goes where?

Did you get an answer regarding the needles? ,

I wouldn't and did not put that dirty worn float back in after a cleaning
My rebuild kit didn't include a needle so I never took it out other than soaking it and blowing it out
