      I wished we knew, but he kind of tells us tho. Ginjo probably is the type to try angry if a friend is lying and or keeping secret's. So there might have been a death close to ginjo and was not happy about it, to then find out the pass was a listening device. Soni believe he got wrong impression. I haven't seen the video yet. So maybe that's the backstory.

      One thing I haven't been able to figure out. The Shinigami sent to bring down Ichigo were all curious selections. With Ikkuaku's 1st meeting with ichigo mirroring his first meeting long ago with Kenpachi, to Renji a close friend, Kenpachi, who probably cared less about orders rather than opportunity to fight.They're arguably the one's Ichigo has the biggest relationships with. Why not Shunshi/Soifon/Mayuri/Retsu? And weirdest of all in my eyes, Byakuya. Even before Ichigo made his choice, Byakuya battled Tsukishima. Even when under the belief that Tsukishima was his mentor, and had saved his life, he had to died for for the simple fact that he was Ichigo's enemy. It's kinda contridictory to hold both that view while still being prepared to kill Ichigo. IMO they only answer is that they were never their to kill him.

      Yes and no, because even he didn't know the whole story of this " betrayal". His hate was warranted but misdirected. Actually killing many innocents plus using a teenager and his group in that misplaced revenge made him just as bad as the people he wanted to take revenge on.

    The revelations from CFYOW really drive home what an absolutely bloody maniac Tokinada is. Ginjo became a killer because of another in a position of untouchable power. If there's any consolation to all of this it's that Xcution has become a force for good in the postwar world with the surviving Fullbringers as a charitable organization.

    • @MrGksarathy
      @MrGksarathy Před rokem +31

      And Tokinada could only act like this because the system shielded him from any accountability basically up to the end. He himself was well aware of this, and that's partially why he became such a cackling psychopath.

      @@MrGksarathy Truth. The ironic yet unsurprising thing about it all is that Soul Society's nobles have basically won per say. Tokinada sure is a product of his world.......

  • @jrgenvellesen7800
    @jrgenvellesen7800 Před rokem +266

    I think Ginjo's backstory being left out of the manga, was the result of two main factors.
    One, if we did get his bacstory we would pretty much need to deal with the whole Tokinada and dark practises of the Soul Society storyline.
    Second, Kubo's health was already pretty bad by this point, and the Lost Agent arc had not been that popular with fans. So, I think both Kubo and the people at Jump though it was better to instead go ahead with the final arc focusing on the Soul Reapers and Quincy.
    I think that Kubo did at some point during the TYBW, realized that he just wasn't going to be able to cover everything he wanted to, so he instead left the Fullbringer-storyline to the novels.
    While I would have loved to see the Fullbringers get some more spotlight in the manga, I am happy that we got some good closure for them in CFYOW. And hopefully, with the novels being very popular and Ginjo getting a lot of focus in them, it could mean that he will play more of a role in the Hell arc. It would be interesting to see a reunion between him and a Hell-version of Ukitake.
    I do like Ginjo, him being a dark mirror to Ichigo while still falling into something of a anti-hero role, makes for a cool and quite dynamic character.

      I do believe you are right. He wanted to step down and finish and didn't want new plot threads that would not get fleshed out as well as Bleach is essentially about Ichigo so that's where the focus lies from start to finish.

      They send soul reapers into the world of the living to “protect” people from hollows and exorcize the lost spirits, yet there’s countless examples of hollows running rampant and unchecked in the world of the living.
      Not only are the soul reapers apparently incapable of controlling the hollows and keeping humans safe, but they also commit mass genocide against anyone who’s forced to take matters into their own hands because the soul reapers can’t do their jobs and exorcize all the hollows.
      The quincies, for instance; they killed hollows because they had to protect themselves, but were ultimately wiped out because the soul reapers didn’t want the balance disrupted.
      Some would argue that it’s the quincies’ fault because they didn’t agree to terms with the soul reapers, but I imagine the original gotei’s terms were something like “do what we say or die.”

    I remember reading Bleach weekly and I was so excited for Ginjo's backstory to be revealed in the chapter after the young Tsuishima panel but never materialised due to the arc being cut short from low ratings. Actually Ginjo's motivations were explained kinda even in the manga, in a very kubo like way, if you think about it Ginjo already told Ichigo his motivations when he told him about tsukishima the first time, you only need to know how Tsukishima's ability works and you can deduce what actually happened, in the story Ginjo told Ichigo, Tsukishima killed the fullbringers, at the time Ginjo was under Tsukishima's influence, so if Tsukishima wasn't the one who killed the fullbringers who did ? because Tsukishima only insert himself in someone's past he can't create other people that didn't exist, so the only possible explanation is that the shinigami were the one who killed them, add this to the truth about the combat pass and we kinda have the full story.
      Also I don't understand why wouldn't CFYOW be considered canon ? yeah sure it wasn't written by Kubo's hand so some details may not be completely accurate, like power levels and who is stronger than who, but the content itself is 100% canon as it came from Kubo himself.

    I always felt this character would've worked better if he was introduced before the soul society arc, because my problem is I never had the sense he had a pragmatic end game against Soul Society given what we knew at that point.
    I never had the sense he had any leg up over Soul Society and/or Urahara.
    As for the core ethical conceit as framed in the manga, him and the arc does still work because I would probably do the same in Soul Society's position, even after all they've been through against Aizen.
    I would be very concerned to say the least, especially seeing how powerful Ichigo became in that fight and that power doesn't even seem replicable among any of the captains maybe save Zaraki.
    I'm glad CFOYW addressed this and validated the character, kinda similar situation with Tosen who always felt a bit weak in the characterization department until reading that light novel and then he made more sense to me.
    I'm generally not a fan of purely evil sadistic puppetmaster taking away agency from the conceit as established from before but overall it works in this context for me.

    I was thinking about the whole timeline of the universe of bleach since its inception till current era, and it would be a great idea for making a series (of maybe 4-5 episodes) covering and explaining the events taking place in the universe of bleach, including the source material itself (manga, anime), light novels (cfyow, safwy, etc), filler arcs (zanpakto, bount, atc), as well as potential events we dont know anything about yet but we recieved some hints on like the beast clan and their inception and etc.
    It would be a great source for all bleach fans to have these information as a whole, and its even much better to be narrated by someone like Mr.Tommo with his enjoyable way of explaining things... Like this comment if u agree so he sees it and maybe consider the idea...

I understand why Kubo couldn't, as there had to be some stuff cut from the source material, but it's a bit of a shame to do it in this round-a-bout way instead.
    I'm ok about this, that Kyõraku talked and apologized in Ukitake's stead. If the hell arc would return and Ginjo would be the one to go up agains Ukitake, then it would be a good way to at least mention that Ukitake is sorry on how the first Substitude soulreaper project transpired.

After the series ended and I started playing a lot of Brave Souls, I've come to love his design and character. He's one of my favorite in all of BLEACH. In Kubo's case, it really is a fantastic example of less being more--from design to motivation to characterization.

    • @varsoonhks3211
      @varsoonhks3211 Před rokem +2

      I will say that the point made in this video regarding Ginjo's motivation being too simple for a villain of an arc is a bit short-sighted. It was refreshing to have a villain that wasn't a 4-D schemer with a god complex like Aizen and, furthermore, it was really nice to have a strong parallel and foil to Ichigo. I really loved that Ginjo's motivations were borne of Soul Society's otherization and treatment of Ginjo. Following Aizen, it is important to show that Soul Society is so flawed that these kinds of antagonists are borne of the inequalities and strife that the Soul Society puts into the world. Aizen, Gin, and Tousen aren't just isolated cases and Ginjo reminds us of that and has us questioning Ichigo's position relative to the Soul Society, too. With an arc that's balancing so much already, giving Ginjo deeper machinations wouldn't really serve the narrative much.

    Old man Yama or Captain Kyoraku could petition central 46 for a pseudo 14th division compromised of trusted (after years of testing like Ichigo) living beings who accept the risks, the life of being monitored by the gotei, and do the jobs a shinigami is to busy to handle.
    Im not talking sending them at gillians or vasto lorde but the little hollows that cause disruption in the mortal world. Like those that Chad and Orihime faced.

  • @tnuhenaj3752
    @tnuhenaj3752 Před rokem +7

    Ginjo didn't bring this up and he probably should have but maybe kubo didn't consider this fact which is that the soul society could've stepped in at any time. It is impossible that it took urahara almost 2 years to realize his plan of creating the sword and restoring ichigo's powers. But we know that the soul society intentionally did not act until ichigo had revealed the location of ginjo for them and also until he had passed their loyalty test. Which means they just let orihime and the rest of ichigo's friends and family get completely fucked with and ichigo get emotionally broken. So they are horribly cruel and pragmatic.
    A big complaint is that ichigo never went to urahara about his powers, instead going to the completely unknown ginjo. Recall during the arrancar arc. Ichigo says that he didn't go to urahara about his hollow because he says if urahara could do anything about it he would've said something already. There's also of course the possibility that ichigo did go to urahara at some point during the timeskip. But we know how urahara would've responded. He would say he can't do anything. The reason is that he is in on the gotei's plan to let ichigo come into contact with ginjo, lead them to him and then find out whether he will ally with them after hearing the truth. And its very in character for urahara to allow all that to happen even if he could stop it. On top of that ginjo puts time pressure on ichigo with his plan. He needs powers immediately. He can't wait for urahara.
    The only issue is isshin. No way should ichigo's dad allow that to happen. So thats the only out of character bit. But in general its quite an airtight plot thread. Very well organized and pretty great.
