have you seen The Boy and The Heron film? unfortunately, I didn't get to catch them in the cinemas :( but, at the moment, I'm looking for the physical copy of the novel that inspired Hayao Miyazaki in the making of film entitled How Do You Live by Genzaburo Yoshino.
