Hi, I enjoy baking so here are some tips that hopefully can help you!
1. For cookies, I usually mix my "wet" ingredients first. So for your recipe, I would've added the sugar, butter, and egg first and mixed them together. Then I would've slowly added in the flour while mixing.
2. I'm not sure if you used room-temperature butter or not, but I recommend doing that. It makes it easier to mix.
3. I usually used an electric hand mixer to mix, but if you don't have that, maybe just use a big spoon so that the ingredients don't get stuck in the whisk.
4. For cookies, I find that it's usually best not to overmix them. If you overmix, the dough can become too soft or "wet". I usually stop mixing right after the ingredients are incorporated together. Your dough looked a little "wet" so you may need a little more flour as well.
5. I saw that you let the dough "rest". I'm guessing you didn't put it in a refrigerator, which could help make the dough thicker. I usually chill dough in the refrigerator for about an hour.
6. Honestly, most cookies spread out in the oven and tend to bake unevenly (that's why I usually check them a couple minutes before they're said to be "done"). It especially happens if the dough was thinner in one area of the cookie than another. Sugar cookies are usually the only cookies that don't spread out too much, I think your cookie was more of a shortbread type? I just made cookies that spread out way more than I expected lol and they ruined the shape I was trying to make so you're not alone in that.
7. You don't usually need to stick a toothpick in cookies (unless they're very thick). Since there was browning on the edges that usually indicates that they're done.
8. You probably didn't find the plain cookie on its own that good because the recipe is very plain. It seems like it's meant to be eaten with something, not alone. If you wanted to eat the cookie on its own or add additional flavor, I recommend adding a little vanilla extract to the dough, perhaps half a teaspoon for your batter size.

The cookies were missing more flour. Every flour is different and some absorb more liquid than others. Next time get it to a texture that you like before letting it rest ❤️ there’s a lot of trail and error with baking but you can only get better the more you try so don’t get discouraged 🤗

Hey! Teen baker here! Well if your cake mixture is too dry, try adding an extra egg or some milk. Or you might have added too much power causing it to soak up liquids and be dry. Also I recommend watching CZcams tutorials instead of Pinterest, the results are usually better for me when I watch CZcams instead!!☺💙

I used to bake a lot more in high school than I do in college now. Baking TIP!! mix the wet ingredients and the dry ingredients separately and the slowly add a little bit of the dry mixture at a time into the wet and mix that. it'll save you so much more time and it's less of a struggle in the long run. Hope that helps! :)

If you are baking there different kind of flour if it to dry sometime you can put a little bit of milk or water but if u have it to dry and you but it in the oven if it burn i hope this help :D

Te recomiendo que para la próxima en vez de echar todos los ingredientes de una, los vallas echando de a poco. Primero mezcla la margarina (o mantequilla dependiendo de la receta) con la azúcar, luego hecha el huevo y todo lo demás, al final ve agregando la harina de a poco mientras mezclas, de esa forma se te hará más fácil. Y aunque esta vez no te paso, si te llegara a quedar muy seco le puedas echar un chorro de leche al igual que si te queda muy líquido le puedes echar más harina.
