I was 20 in 1999, and on hogmanay i spent the day with about 10 good friends, we got pissed in the evening and planned to go to the big street party in the city centre for the bells where thousands of people had gathered all night with a live band, fireworks etc. We got a bit too pissed so were running a bit late as we made our way to the street, then just as we were close, at about 5 minutes to the bells, we realised the road we had taken had been completely fenced off and we were trying to enter the street party from the wrong side.
Desperate as fuck at this point, we literally crashed into the nearest pub, determined not to spend the millennium walking about in an empty street......and as we all burst into the bar the 10, 9 , 8 countdown started and in absolute horror, we simultaneously realised we had gatecrashed an old age pensioners new years get together where they were all sitting at tables with party hats on eating sausage rolls and playing dominos.....
..... It was so fucking tragic it was hilarious..... they all blew those party kazoo things that unroll when you blow them, and let off party poppers as the year changed to 2000, it was the tamest new year party we could have possibly dreamed up. Whilst everyone in the world was having the craziest party of their lives, here we were absolutely steaming at a care homes day out.....

Who was playing techno? It was a shame decent techno died for so long, along with progressive.

I used to hang around with a gang of friends in the early to mid 90s, and we always drank in this remote field. One night, we all promised that we'd turn up at the field on NYE, not at the countdown but just that night a few hours beforehand. We'd drifted apart by 1999, but I was still gonna go to the field and see who turned up. In the end, I didn't, and I never really saw any of them again.

@@misanthropic_shithead7438 Lol. Laziness and not wanting to feel like a fool if I was the only one who turned up. We all hold the keys to our own prison cells, I think.

lmao when I was watching before and Limmy mentioned he was from Shawlands and then just now Carnwadrig lol I went out with a guy from there years ago lol and I think he was a couple of years older than me and I was born in 76! Was kinda wondering if Limmy was talking about the guys sisters boyfrend or even the guy himself lol fkng 21 years ago makes me feel ancient lol
in 1999 Hogmanay I was working as a support worker all by myself in a house with 3 disabled people, they had brought in camping stoves and candles and stuff in case the electricity went haywire or something but like they still left me there working on my own lol nothing happened anyway except for loads of fireworks and drunk people singing really really bad lol

Celebrated it in bonkers, spilled kebab sauce down my yellow YSL shirt while waiting about 3 hours for a taxi hame if I remember right. Something like that anyway. It was a classy affair definitely.

I was 8, everyone was hella panicking about Y2K and my Canadian city and all the grocery stores were empty and gas stations closed,
But I remember being cuddled up in front of the TV playing like SNES or something using candles instead of lights for whatever reason haha
