I have been following Sarah since she was a very young diy designer. My favorite then, and still my favorite today! I've told my husband that if EVER he had a mind to "surprise" me with a re-design in ANY room of the house, there are TWO (2) people I would sanction; and ONE of them is Sarah Richardson. Sarah's design esthetic imitates or complements my own so exquisitely (your choice of term) and the cottage is the quintessential representation of style and practicality. Sublime, Sarah, seamless, sensual, yet real for real people living a sheltered but well-lived life.

I like that there's still no electric light in the cottage. You come to the cottage for a different experience, and I think it is a very valuable experience for the kids. They will cherish the memories they make on the island their whole lives. So will everyone who is lucky enough to experience it, I'll bet.

Loved how the backsplash, reclaimed pieces, and cabinets brought the sky and ocean colors into the cabin 11 years ago and still love it today!

That kitchen is perfect. Not too fussy and super functional while still looking like a magazine cover.
This is one of my favorite kitchens ever! The backsplash is divine, and the layout, with the hallway through the middle, couldn’t be more perfect for a vacation home “Gathering Place”.

I so look forward to these videos, Sarah. Keep them coming. I am loathe to move onto something else. This location is just magic, although I wish it were down here in Chesapeake Bay, where we still have 70-80 degree weather, often into November, even though it has already started to drop down to the upper 60s as the daytime high.

I’ll be ready! 💰 The warmth of the place, especially with the fire going, is one of the many things I love about getting away to the cottage! Your colour palette is so well thought out and works beautifully for a cottage, especially one surrounded by water. Tell Fiona, she has the right idea as far candle lights being a nicer look over electric lighting! 😉👍

love the kitchen - its one of the few times you see a sort of open concept that doesnt make you feel like there's a couch in your kitchen and not dominated by a giant island with a sink faucet in your sight line

Sarah, I am so happy I've found you online. I've just subscribed. I'll have to watch all of your past videos to catch up. Looking forward to it. We purchased a small old farmhouse 10 years ago, with the intention of renovating, once we paid off the mortgage in a five year plan. The well laid plans changed when my husband got ill, (I almost lost him, not once, but twice). Life has a way of keeping it real, doesn't it? This video has given me inspiration, as we are in lake country (sadly we are not on a lake, nor do we have a view of one). However, I think I am going to do some painting as though the lake was right on our doorstep. The pastel blues, grays, creams are lovely in your island home. I think they would make quite the difference in bringing some sunshine into our home. Thank you for what you do to inspire. Lilli
