  • Hi all! In this video, I show the steps and procedures that I took to build a DIY automotive smoke machine which will be very useful in finding vacuum, exhaust, and engine leaks! This project was pretty inexpensive and fun to make. CAUTION should ALWAYS be used when using a smoke machine. Use only 1 to 2 psi when using this style smoke machine. After watching many other vacuum smoke leak detection videos I found the BREW2L my favorite, this video is based on his version of his vacuum leak detector but with my own twist.

Moe, the smoke machine whisperer! Well done, sir! A great tool to find those pesky vacuum leaks on our aging trucks.

You could use an aquarium air pump as your air supply

That was actually really nifty, I’m all about home engineering/DIY especially when it’s useful for mechanical work! Thanks! Smoke machines are super useful but way expensive for their simplicity and this shows it even more! I’ll be creating my own in the near future!

Yup, same! Fyi, I bought the black abs plastic housing because it looks cooler than white PVC. I think white PVC is cheaper but I'm not sure. The store I went to only had abs at the time

@@_moes_garage_ the black is super professional looking lol, I’ll keep that in mind though when I hit the store thanks! Let’s me know I ain’t gotta be too picky an if I’m on a budget I can cut cost too, I thought it was cool you used things from various fields too, like the vape coils cause I used to vape but that kinda stuff just takes up space now days but nowwwww I can repurpose it lol it’s awesome 👏

Sweet! I love when you can repurpose stuff that's just sitting around. I made a sound system for my garage from some old speakers and misc stuff I had laying around in storage bins 😂

Haha that's no biggie. I had just gotten an air compressor at that point to I wanted to make something for it 🤣🤷‍♂️

Keep looking... They go on sale often. I got one 3 weeks ago that was normally $65 for $35. I almost made my own but my time is more valuable than the few dollars I might have saved.
BTW... It works fantastic and comes with a large variety of hose adapters etc.

Hey good to know! I spent like $100 but that's because I got extra wicks and extra baby oil.

Yup! I'm going to make a short of this being used on the Xterra. My check engine light popped on then off for a P0420... But I have already replaced the cats so we'll see how it goes.

@@DIY_AUTO_PHOTO so I had my cats replaced 3 years ago and my po420 just popped up again. I have redone the cats. I'm hoping it's something else. So I built the smoke machine to check for air leaks before I replace the cats AGAIN 😑
