    !!UPDATE!! One issue with the Viltrox Speed Booster is if you're trying to use a lens with no contact points(like a vintage lens), The GH6 will think it's a connection error and won't let you shoot. For now I threw a piece of electrical tape converting the contact points between the booster and GH6 and it works but still not sure how i feel about throwing a piece of tape in there...

    • @mbailey802
      @mbailey802 Před 2 lety +29

      Can't you solve this by going to menu and choosing "shoot with no lens" option?

    • @mbailey802
      @mbailey802 Před 2 lety +5

      no need to tape

    • @GeneNagata
      @GeneNagata Před 2 lety +10

      @@mbailey802 Well the tricky thing is, it will shoot with no lens, but it detects the electronics of the viltrox speed booster. So then it assumes there's some sort of error because it know's there's a connection but no information coming through. By taping off the connection in the speed booster, it cuts off the signal entirely and the GH6 will just assume it's a manual lens and it'll let you record. Would be nice if I could just tell the GH6 to ignore that signal entirely.

    That was a really thorough, detailed and fair video. I tried to get a lot of this across in my review as it's so easy for people to dismiss Panasonic based on AF alone, but there's so many other benefits in this camera that go beyond a lot of more expensive rivals if you're into pro video tools and operability. Great real-life examples and useful comparisons with the A7S III as well. One of the best GH6 reviews I've seen so far!

      Shooting video on cameras with fast lenses and larger sensors is more challenging in some respects than shooting on a phone because it's harder to nail focus. It takes practice, but it's totally worth it.
      Micro Four Thirds is a great middle ground. While you do get background separation and bokeh, you're not going to be focusing on an eyelash when you tried to focus on the pupil because the depth of field is not that shallow like it would be in full frame.
      If you've been shooting on a phone, the GH6 is probably severe overkill. Pick up a used G85 for 1/4 of the price of this, and you will still get excellent video out of it...speaking from direct experience.
      The used market is about to get flooded with the GH5, so you might be able to get a great deal on one of those.

    • @watchandproduce
      @watchandproduce Před 2 lety +3

      No shame in shooting with a phone. I would actually recommend you consider buying Tentacle Track E to discretely mic your talent and then use a camera App on your phone that supports them. I previously only used them with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K and now love using them with my iPhone. Sound is super important. What I actually love about the GH6 and PotatoeJet didn’t really cover was that the GH6 has a timecode port and that the camera supports real time code without having to use an audio track.

Sadly it's pretty terrible in low light but that's my only real complaint, the ability to shoot cinematic 4k video is enough for me, I just wish lenses (in general) were cheaper, the main lens I want costs more than the camera and kit lens.

The C300 Mark II didn't have it with a $16K price. Panasonic changed the industry forever with the GH5. Till this day, Panasonic is still one of the only mirrorless camera manufacturers including shutter angle in their bodies (Sony A7SIII $3500, FX3 $4000, & Canon $3800 R5 + R6, $2500, what's going on?).
    Even though autofocus would have completely won so many people over with the sub $4K price bracket, at $2200, you are getting many features that you cannot get from Sony and Canon at twice the price.

Provides 4k 120p at 10bit where the a74 doesn't even provide 1080p 120p 10bit. The GH6 doing internal prores and not needing an external recorder (literally saves thousands) whereas the A74 hasn't been given any external upgraded recording features to my knowledge. Like, guys, I'm not trying to be biased but the video features outright slap the A7s3 and this camera is cheaper than an A74, again outside of autofocus and depth of field which a metabones adaptor and fast lens solve. Also has a higher mechanical photo burst with a cool although Jpeg electronic mode (I feel it would provide similar results to simply filming and pulling screenshots but I could see the usefulness of having the JPEGS straight out of the camera. All this and I haven't even mentioned IBIS. To summarize for video cinema-style work this is a no-brainer even when compared to the A7s3 and maybe cameras of a higher tear than that, for photo, not really but still provides more in that department than I was expecting.

    This camera is insane given it's competition. Even tho the autofocus is much improved, it's still a little bit of a letdown though. Especially considering the competition. I don't know how they can keep using phase detect points being detrimental to image quality in specific situations as a reason to stick with DFD contrast AF when Olympus has hybrid phase detect and their autofocus is basically as good as canon and sony...on micro four thirds still.
