“He made up his mind ten minutes ago” saddest line in breaking bad history. Respect for Hank.
That line was so real. 😭
@WILLIAM EWART GLADSTONE Hank knew that they weren't going to let him live, regardless of what Walter said or did. He's pointing out that despite Walter being the smartest guy he knew, Walter was too dumb realize that they had already long decided to kill Hank, a DEA agent who saw all their faces and knew their names.

Hank was just as happy to slap the cuffs on brother-in-law Walt as he would've been anybody else. It made zero difference to Hank that Walt was family or how it would impact Walt Jr. & Skyler. Not saying Hank should've let Walt slide, he had to arrest him, but his indifference to Walt vs any other drug kingpin showed that Hank was self-centered and only about getting his man to further his career. I enjoyed watching Jack end Hanks ‘career’.
The way Jack shoots Hank mid sentence, then in Felina Walt returns the favor. Poetic justice at its finest

Absolutely. Not to mention the fact that Hank faced it like a man while Jack tried to bargain for his life.

I don't see that Hank has forgiven Walt anything BUT I see that Hank realized that Walt cared for him and truly loved him as a family member. In his eyes, Walt is still a criminal but no longer someone he is totally a stranger to. When he found out about Walter's criminal career, he doubted he'd ever known him. Surely he had to assume that all those years together were just wrong and fraudulent. Every nice word. But he realized that Walt was a criminal, but one who still loved his family.
Also it was the first time he showed respect to him by calling him smarter than anyone he knows
Walt doesn't love his family. He could've just taken Gretchen and Elliot's money. He could've been happy with the knowledge that Hank will always take care of his family. Instead he wanted to start a drug empire knowing all the risks that entailed. Including this one. Walt did this for himself.
@@xXscreamingkoalaXx While he may have did this for himself and it’s obvious because he says it himself when talking to his wife later.. But he did love his family. Only problem was he wanted a happy family while building his drug empire at the same time. Just like good and bad don’t mix, you can’t have both. Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings;
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"

Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

“You’re the smartest guy I ever met…” It’s like for just that instant they were brothers in law instead of mortal enemies. For a moment they were at Walt’s 50th birthday party again. Still tears me up a bit.
The way I see it, Hank didn't forgive Walt for everything he's done. However, he saw that despite all the horrible stuff, to the drugs, the death, all of it, Walter still loved his family. He was willing to give up all of his money, $80 million, if it meant that Hank could've lived. And even if Jack took that deal and let Hank live, Walter would've been arrested, so there's no way he would've made it back.
So, for me, Hank's last words to Walt were just the honest truth. That despite him doing everything in him power to save his life, it was all in vain.
Most people don’t know this but Michael Bowen, the actor who plays Jack in the show, actually improvised Hank’s death by literally murdering Dean Norris in cold blood on set. Vince Gilligan was expectedly left speechless by Bowen’s commitment to his character and top tier method acting 👏

Supremely well acted.
Walt's face once he falls haunts me deeply. Bryan Cranston can't be praised enough for his acting throughout breaking bad, but that last clip is one of those moments I don't think gets enough attention. His expression alone seems to encapsulate not just immense grief, despair and desperation, but the total accumulation of his actions that lead to that moment; the full weight of Heisenberg's actions are behind it. It was like a moment of true, horrific clarity.
Honestly I could rave about just about every second of Ozymandias, but Walt falling over is what I keep coming back for time and time again.
It makes me laugh because of the memes
Cranstons acting this episode was incredible but man him falling over makes me laugh cause of the memes
It also is an opposite of when he kills Gus. There, it was a genious masterplan that played out SO WELL that it made him feel on top the world, like he wasn't the "blowfish" no more (I mean, he had his moments of progressive thougness, but this was the most notorious).

I just realized, Walt's expression at 2:27 while fallen on his side, after seeing Hank dying, is the exact same Gus makes when Max is executed.
Dean Norris's acting as Hank is perfect. To go from unbearable brother-in-law to hero over the course of the series is such a great arc. And here, you can see all the love, resentment, betrayal, pity, dignity... All in his eyes and in the quiver of his voice. I wish he was the lead in more movies
Funny that throughout the series, Walt amasses money and power through greed, cruelty and destruction. Thinking it made him 'better' or 'stronger'. Yet, here he has 80million, and is the most feared criminal of the area, and he is utterly powerless.

"My name is ballsac schrader"
There's a parallel between Andrea and Hank's deaths. Jesse and Walt both had their hands tied behind their backs and could do nothing but cry and watch their loved ones be shot by dead.
And their killers were also killed in similar ways:
- Jack shot Hank before he finished his sentence, Walt does the same to Jack.
- Todd shoots Andrea from her back, and Jesse strangles Todd from his back.
The most dramatic scene in the history
Started off thinking Hank was a dork and goofball and then ended up loving his drive and determination and loyalty to what is right. He was a damn bloodhound.

Yeah but if Jesse had listened to Saul in the first place and given up the pot....Jesse was a loose cannon most of the series and should've been put down seasons before the ricin discovery. He was a good person overall and the crime world was just not the place for him.
Another awesome thing, or should i say "depressing" thing from this scene is, how there's no music at all when Hank's was shot mid-sentence. Just pure silence, no emotional music in background not even a hint of it. Showing how Walt's world was shattered and went into the void.

This scene is truly a masterpiece with cleverly underlying symbolism behind it. With the episode named Ozymandias, it cleverly links to the idea of Hank portrayed as dead, and under the ground. Hank morally was a good man, yet although he may have jumped a few hurdles in order to catch Walt, he still didn't give up on the case, which I do have much respect for. Walter on the other hand was greedy and spiteful and only really placed more problems for himself as the series unveiled itself, YET DESPITE all the money he had collected to his name. Hank went down like a true hero. Respect.
The name Ozymandias also hints the leveling of an empire into nothing but sand. A king of kings whose world ended, and was forgotten.
this scene was so excellent because you could see hank getting visibly hankier by the minute, building up to the climax where hank actually catches the bullet between his teeth
“Sorry man just no scenario where this guy lives”

This is the moment Jack made up his mind 10 minutes ago

"You're the smartest guy I've ever met. But you're too stupid to see, that they are minerals, not rocks."
I've seen the show a few times - when it was airing, a few years ago and I just watched it all again recently. This whole scene was brutal. I felt a sadness for a few days afterwards whenever I thought about Hank. I know it's just a show but I'm human, give me a break. And Gomez - jezuz - he was alive, fighting for his life, then there was a commercial, the show comes back on and he was dead... they didn't even grace him with an on screen death. Ruthless writing.
I just realized. This scene parallels the scene/ flashback where Gus’s partner gets killed in front of him too. You can watch both scenes side by side and it’s almost the same thing. Even the way in which Walt and Gus fall to the floor and express their grief. Something I never saw until now.
I never really rooted for Hank while watching, but this was still by far the saddest death in the show. The look on Walt's face afterward shows so many things. Most notably, the realization that his new lifestyle had permanently destroyed what was once the most important thing in his life.
