@@b0leg23 bro, I haven't finished the series yet...😢
Always loved how even though Hank was really struggling with PTSD at this stage, he still badass enough to kill the twins
Because the situations become the easy part. Your brain reverting to it’s primal & instinctual state of life or death. It’s dealing with the aftermath, having to now pretend you are “normal”, and relating to normal people that haven’t done or seen what you have that is difficult.
PTSD or not, you will not be thinking about it in a moment like that.
PTSD wouldn't affect this.
@@briancrawford8751 yep, survival instincts kick in and you don't have time to think about it.
He also had PTSD when he beat up those two guys at the bar.
This scene is so perfect in every way. The twins are cold-blooded killers. Doing this in broad daylight in a grocery store parking lot, killing a pedestrian just for looking at him. The slow walking toward hank, the twin not finishing hank with the gun because it was "too easy" is when you know you're insane.
The sheer arrogance of 'Sangre por Sangre', by hitting a DEA-agent, ín the US, in broad daylight: for the world to see! To have nó regard for the conseuqenses, no the Salamanca's wanted their revenge. They were raised as ruthless killers by Hector. Not giving reason any thought, théy wanted their revenge for their cousin Tuco.
Absolutely brutal! Imagine if they had succeeded, and gotten away... what sort of message that would have sent?
Yet, the Twins were completely oblivious of the consequenses!!! Thats why Bolsa strictly forbade ány reprecussions against the DEA! Bolsa knew, as well as the Cartel had its connections into the Mexican Authorities... the véry moment the USA told the Federales, they would NOT have this sort of actions on their soil, from Mexican Druglords, those connections would be worth nothing, vs the Sanctions the USA would put on Mexico, if they did NOT cooperate, and extract revenge.
Bolsa knew this all too well, the Twins never cared about that, they were raised to stand for their Family! And Gus brilliantly manipulated them into it.
I like how everyone collectively ignores the absolute unbelievable part of an axe magically cutting concrete
What’s your point?
This is in broad daylight but so many cartel killings are and the fight was supposed to be quicker than it was but Hank was warned.
Marco killed that random guy out of reflex, also Marco wasn’t “slowly walking toward Hank” considering he had just been shot 5 times in the chest he was walking pretty fast. Marco not killing Hank is because of the Salamancas believing on the idea of blood for blood
@@ryman1933It’s an axe made out of asphalt that’s just got flung out of someone’s hands several feet in the air landing directly on the ground. There’s a lot of force going into that sharp edge due to gravitational pull and the idea of it splitting into the ground is not that unlikely.
@@falconheavy0533 No, it's REALLY unlikely. Buy an ax like that and try it. Go crazy on the road where you live.
The thing about Hank is when you first start watching the show you're expecting him to be the obligatory overly-obnoxious bully brother-in-law. You're prepared to hate him, but he turns out to be such a multi-dimensional character. My heart was in my throat when I saw this scene for the first time.
Same could be said for Howard in BCS.
@@favorites483 True.

Hank is literally the only truly good guy in this series
These two guys took out an entire drug cartel on their own. Hank singlehandedly took them out with a minute's notice. G.O.A.T.
And he didn’t even have his gun.
The Twin’s brutality was their downfall. He could’ve easily killed Hank here.
@@Strummie
The moment the twins shot hanks car, was their downfall.
Gus plan was to piss the DEA who would go on to pressure the Mexican federales to kill bolsa, which would ultimately end the cartel.
I was about to say that, but when i rewatched the scene, you can't really tell it's Hank's credit. Marco could easily kill him, but he ends up stupid and went for the axe. It's Marco's fault.
But hank was warned and ready plus lucky
I love how the axe just casually falls into like 3 inches of cement
i think that's asphalt which is much softer than concrete
@@milanmiljus823 not the point. the point being that the axe wouldn't do that, which looks silly. That was the point he was getting at lol
@@MisterAcker who cares
@@Trahzy the commenter apparently
@@MisterAcker dude it’s a Tv show, none of them make any sense when you overanalyse them
I love how this scene keeps consistent with the running motif of the series about pride coming before the fall. The twin put the pleasure of killing Hank in a more intimate way (as retaliation for the crippling of his brother) above getting the job done, which gave Hank JUST enough time to prepare accordingly to end this Salamanca twin's life.
No, it's "Pride goeth before the fall."
It wasn't just for crippling him, it was about avenging Tuco
You also see how they differ from the pragmatism of Lalo. Lalo just kills people like Howard without any drama or showiness.
Lots of villains in fiction lose because of this. They want to gloat or slowly kill their victims, which gives them the opportunity to fight back.
I also like the moment right before this, when Hank receives the call.
“Two men are coming to kill you. They’re approaching your car. You have one minute.”
Pure dread and terror
I love how the camera work shows his paranoia
Yeh like he’s sweating looking over his shoulder and the mirrors, just not sure if it’s serious or not. My favorite part is when he’s lying on the ground trying to put the bullet in, and he finally get it at the last moment and then collapses.
@@bantehayes9973 I think he gets the bullet in a little bit before the last moment, you can see just before the last moment is him positioning his body to take the shot (whilst groaning in pain), and finally at the last moment he clicks the top part of the gun forward, which I assumes is what primes the weapon to fire. Looks like he does this as late as possible (after the Cousin committed to raising the axe), so that the Cousin is not going to realise the gun is now loaded and can't do anything about it (e.g. dodge, throw the axe, go for the gun)
Also the fact that the caller used a voice changer making it sound demonic-like made it even more creepy
@Bully Maguire Gus
Hanks healing literally took almost 2 seasons
In real life could take forever
He was shot like 4 times. And the entirety of Breaking Bad from the pilot to the finale is only a 2 year time span. So his recovery was probably pretty fast.
Way better than him just walking it off like most shows/movies
Majority Breaking bad takes place all in one year 2008-2009. Except for the ending which takes place in 2010. Which el camino still takes place in 2010. Better Call Saul takes place from 2002 to 2004 currently. The gene timeline takes place in 2012. So there is everything you need to know
@@edgarm.7274 true but remember that hank had the best doctors and physical therapists of new Mexico, possibly the nation. He was training like 5 or 6 times a week too. So it is possible. Just a lot of money and work
Scientists are still wondering about Hank being able to walk with those gigantic steel balls of him. True hero.
To me, this episode (both this scene and the scene with Jesse in the hospital) is when Breaking Bad went from a really great, unique crime drama to one of the greatest television shows ever made. A lot of shows suffer from failing to live up to the quality of its first season or couple of seasons, but BB is an example of a show that got consistently better with each season; bigger, more ambitious in scope but stronger in its execution with it.
Did you know that in the original script Hank was supposed to die here? The actor Dean Norris decided to improvise at the last second and reached for the bullet to shot Luis Moncada. That's why there's splatered brain on the camera above them. Truly admirable how far the actors would go for this show

This scene was legendary.
The scene where we realized Hanks' tough macho persona was not an act.
My favorite thing about Breaking Bad is that anyone can die at any moment. Every scene actually holds a strong sense of tension and fear because you genuinely don’t know if the characters are going to make it out alive or not.
If you think anyone could die at any moment in BB you need to watch GoT
@@denisdeari1 Except GoT lacks all the build up, tension, camera work, foreshadowing, symbolism, god tier acting and character development Bb has.
@@denisdeari1 the reason BB is better is because it doesn’t just kill characters for the shock value of killing them. There is actual buildup and character development to actually make you care if they die or not.

Hank is the real hero of Breaking Bad. He's a badass, but not in an emotionless, Terminator/James Bond way. He seems like a real guy with real vulnerabilities. His physical and emotional damage from this event lasted two whole seasons. The whole show could have been told from Hank's point of view, and it still would have been a great show. It just would have been a cop show, and it would have needed a different title because Hank never broke bad.

the plot armor in this scene was crazy
i mean, hank knew he was going to get attacked and we already knew that the cousins prefer using melee weapons in their murders
Yeah but hank knew about the attack and he had A+ tier miltary training. But yeah I agree. He might have like B level plot armor for this scene.
Exactly and people claim this is the best show ever LMAO
Hank literally saved Gus the hardwork by taking out three members of the Salamanca family
true but gus was still pulling the strings here like a puppetmaster

This is a perfect encapsulation of the ultimate weakness of the Salamancas.
They're addicted to hyper-violence. They *have* to make it painful, torturing, killing, making a bloody mess, to make as violent an example as possible, in order to rule with fear. It's an approach that lacks any sense of subtlety, and that's why they're constantly defeated by people more clever and resourceful than them.
If Marco had just shot Hank there, he would have lived. But he had to make it more painful, had to make it bloodier and more violent. And it cost him his life.
1:33 turn based combat
He had not enough mana for shooting the gun

Your spine would likely be completely destroyed, rendering you totally unable to feel most of the damage. That being said, yes, it would be extraordinarily painful.

I think Tuco once said, "If you're going to shoot, shoot. Don't waste time getting an axe."
Or something like that. ;-)
It's a line, most likely homage, to The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. The character Tuco, yes, same name, said after shooting a guy giving some revenge monlogue "If you're gonna shoot, shoot. Don't talk".

Hank really won the fight against both twins. He was able to back into the one twin without getting shot, and he snuck up behind the other and would have killed him right there if he hadn't been wearing the kevlar vest.
Actually, the twin he backed into shot him in the upper arm. You’ll see if you rewind.

I remember how surprised I was that Hank survived this. I dont clearly remember the lead up to the scene, just that the moment I realised the twins were both at his location I was just like 'Well, see ya Hank ,its been real'
Was shocked he made it through.
if the twin could've easily wacked the gun out of hank's hands.... kinda fail
@@dmullz100 but he thinks the gun has no ammunition in, its his custom weapon so he probably can also safely assume Hank won't have the rounds to load it, he doesn't realise he dropped one round when he reloads.
That is why the last thing Hank does is click the top part of the pistol forward (when he already had loaded the round and positioned to fire). The gun still looked out of ammo until the very last moment, when it was too late for the cousin to realise.

This scene is even more intense with Hank shaking trying to put the bullet in, the car alarm consistently going off in background to make you feel uneasy, the phone call. Everything about this scene is perfect. This is definitely the turning point of the whole show and develops into the fact that Hank is slowly losing it every episode in Season 3 beforehand.
It's tense even after having watched it multiple times
Hank only survived because someone prepared him.
I've watched this clip 5 or so times and always thought it was ridiculous that Hank and they just happened to have the same ammo. Literally just realized Hank was using the other Twins gun, so it makes perfect sense. Bravo breaking bad writers, bravo.
In this scene hank badge and gun were taken, he was suspended from duty
It wasn't Hank's gun. It was the brothers who dropped it there when Hank reversed into him. More believeable the brothers using the same ammo
@@TheThebigfrenchie yea, I had missed or forgotten that part. Such great writing.
I thought of this exactly when I first watched it, but not in this scene, but an earlier one. They were carrying 45s, while you could argue it's the second most popular pistol calibre in the US, what are the odds the arms dealer knew they favored the 45 to have tossed them a round in that calibre instead of more common 9mm?
