Yes that’s how I was taught as a little girl with my mom. She couldn’t read very good so a recipe to her was just a guide line that she used. I lot of the time a cup might be her hand cured & that was how much you use.

Try draining the cherries in a colander. It's faster than pulling them out of the jar with a fork, and if you need the juice for something later, you can collect it in a bowl under the colander for return to the jar. Also, if you have a mini-muffin tin, you can put your wrappers in the cups, then put the chocolate covered cherries in them, and the tin holds them steady so they don't fall over. :)

Catherine, for the cherries without stems I use Xmas colored tooth picks. Sometimes I remove all the stems and just use the tooth picks for all of them. It just makes them look a little more festive! If you can't find the holiday ones you can dye them with food coloring! You can make them any color to suit the holiday! You can top the brittle with chocolate chips. Just put the chips on top of the brittle while it still hot. Scatter and spread!

An idea for you….if you don’t have a stem on your cherries, use a tooth pick (even could be colored type) and insert only the thin tip until it holds the cherry safely, so you can dip with confidence like you do with the stems. This is also very helpful when all you can get are the non-stem type of cherries 😉. Thank you for sharing great recipes.

I've made brittle from her recipe since and each time my husband and I take a bite of it, we have warm memories of the past. I've been making peanut brittle for about 40 years and this is the first year I have ever heard of using anything but raw peanuts for it, and spreading it as well (I saw one other person use these two things/methods). I was always taught to never touch it once it hits the pan. I have to admit that I found a microwave recipe many years ago for it and I have never once had it not turn out! I have to say I was so surprised, as were both of my Grandmas! Another favorite holiday recipe I got from my Grandma is a popcorn cake, using popcorn, peanuts, M & M's, caramels, marshmallows & butter. It is beautiful and tasty!

Hi Deb. Would you share your microwave peanut brittle recipe? Thanks so much!

    • @debgalloway1398
      @debgalloway1398 Před 10 měsíci +1

@@kimstrow5552 Sure! 1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. light corn syrup, 1 c. raw peanuts, 1 tsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp baking soda Directions: Combine sugar & syrup in mix & pour bowl. Microwave on high for 4 minutes. Stir in peanuts. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes. Add butter & vanilla, blending well. Microwave on high for 1-2 minutes longer. Peanuts will be lightly browned and syrup very hot. Add baking soda & stir until light & foamy. Pour mixture onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Let cool about an hour or until cool. Break into small pieces and store into airtight container (I use a Ziplock). Makes about 1 pound. Using a glass pan or bowl with a good handle to hold with hot pad is best. The microwave times will change with wattage of your microwave so you may need to try tweaking until finding the best for yours. I like the step after peanuts to be darker for a crunchier texture rather than very chewy. Try a couple of trial runs to find your perfect taste. You won't be disappointed!

I learned ,by watching tons of chic covered cherry videos, to first dip just the bottoms of each cherry, by the time you get to the last one, the first ones bottoms are set. Then you can dip the total cherry. That gives them a very strong bottom base so the liquid won't come thru.

Your fudge variation using Mini marshmallows instead of the marshmallow creme fascinates me as that is the one thing that is hard to get out of the jar when you're working fast. I make a different “Bark” that you might want to try. I just put stick pretzels, dried cranberries and pecans with the almond bark. I do mix it all together then put on parchment paper. I use 1-2 cups of pretzels, and 1 cup each of the cranberries and pecans. Use 6 cubes of almond bark. It’s not quite as sweet as yours, but adults like it. I have substituted dried cherries for the cranberries at times also. Simple and delicious.😊

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Chocolate covered cherries were always my husband's favorite candy. Although I've seen several ways of doing them your way looks the best for my lack of experience. Now my grandson and I can add them to our Christmas party ideas. Ty again. Merry Christmas!!

What an amazing variety of Christmas candy Catherine! 😍
This was so much fun to watch! 😘
Last year I made the Bugle Bells and it was so much fun and tasted great too! But I had to laugh when you were talking about eating them as you were making them. I had made a few and decided to taste one and I loved the sweet and salty component. It tasted so good that I would dip the Bugle in the almond bark and put it in my mouth. That's when I learned just how hot the almond bark was. 😳 So I had to remind myself when I dipped the Bugle that I needed to wait a bit before putting it in my mouth! 😋 Yeah it only took a couple of times of burning my mouth before I remembered. 😉
So lesson learned! 😚 And I successfully finished the bells without burning myself! ☺️ But sometimes it happens because you give us such great recipes! We just can't wait to try them!
I'm so grateful for all the wonderful recipes you provide! Your recipes are so easy, fast and delicious! And we are truly grateful for your channel! 🤩
Thanks for sharing another group of wonderful recipes! 🥰

great vid and some wonderful holiday treat ideas..i only melt my choc in a bowl over a water bath but i use a medium size bowl over a small pot, so that if the water gets steamy it does get into my chocolate from the steam that comes out the sides of you pot and be careful that you don't get any water on the bottom of the pot, that may drip off into your chocolate if you are pouring it out onto a cookie sheet to make bark or something else. thx marie from canada

  • @diamondpaintingpeacock9772

🤍🤍🤍 Peanut brittle! I've made it using the microwave method but yours looks so much better! I'm going to give it a try! 🥰

Back when I was 17-18 my grandma's favorites were chocolate covered cherries and orange slice cake. She said the store bought cherries are to sweet. So, I taught myself to make them. She love those cherries. She always took the orange slice cake home. Not my favorite. But, before she left all the cherries were gone. I made them for her every year till I married and moved away. But, would make her some when I would get to go for any holiday.

Hello Catherine. Have you ever heard of Elf Hats or Christmas kisses? They are similar to the Hershey chocolate kisses but made with colored white chocolate. The red can be made either with crushed cinnamon hard candies or red sour cherry candies. The green can either be crushed wintergreen candies or lime or green apple candies. Mix the food coloring with the white chocolate once melted add crushed candies . I like to dollop the candy on top of a mini marshmallow. There you have it. If you have used fruity candy an optional center would be the candied fruit that is used to make fruitcake.

Great video Ms. Catherine. You're still my all time favorite cook on YT. As a request for candy, can you show us how to make divintiy, please? It's so good. I can't find a recipe that sounds like what I grew up eating. Maybe I'm too old to remember exactly, but I do remember loving it. Thank you for teaching us how to make so many wonderful treats for Christmas. God bless you folks!
