      e208 doesn’t feel as nippy as some others as soon as you plant the pedal but suspect that is deliberate as it is still delivering very smooth power to 70 mph and beyond whereas other EVs in the price range flatten off above 50mph. Maybe the engineers want it to have the same acceleration characteristics as an ICE hot hatch.

    • @demoniack81
      @demoniack81 Před 2 lety

      @@jaz4280 "EV every normal person can afford", righgt. I went and asked a dealership today and they have some for €25k.
      Yeah sorry but no, a "normal person" ain't spending 25k on *a city car,* especially when I can have a Dacia Sandero for 13k or a Renault Clio for 15, both with the turbocharged LPG engine which costs LESS than the electric one to run and is more practical (no charging issues etc).
      Oh and that 25k includes the fact that it's a car the dealership bought last year with 10k of government incentives. The actual list price would be 35... which is enough to buy a BMW 2 series. So unless a 2 series is a car "every normal person can afford", then the e208 isn't either.
      The truth is an actually affordable EV still doesn't exist. Until the price gets below _at least_ 15k for a car that is ACTUALLY USABLE (i.e. no shitboxes with 100km of range and a top speed of 80km/h or some crap), it's not affordable.

    Not sure if this is the right place to ask: are you going to re-test it for the 2023 model? It should have better range and efficiency.
    I looked around a lot for info on this model, looking for which EV to buy for city dwelling and short trips. Your honest and high quality reviews convinced me this was the right car. I have one since May 2021 and we absolutely love it. The one downside we do not like is cabin heating uses a resistor which makes winter range for city dwelling use abysmal, we hardly get 100km of range on a full charge when temperatures outside are around freezing.

    An experienced EV driver like Bjørn, of course, knows that consuming is larger the first couple of kilometers, after zeroing and starting driving. This is because the start of the trip includes an acceleration up to the desired speed. Of course, the correct measurement is obtained - as Bjørn is showing - only when the car has stopped completely after the trip.

      On highway at high speed most of the energy is spent on prevalling air resistance and being heavy doesn't matter much , having a more elongated body actually helps with aerodynamics , this is also why a long sedan usually have a better highway consumption than a short city car.
      Obviously the reverse happens in city driving where during the stop and go routine a lower mass does help a lot to achieve a better consumption.

    I am always surprised by the consumption of these small cars. I have a Zoe 88hp and a Tesla Model 3 Performance more than 500hp. I just had a trip this afternoon on a French motorway (speed limit 130km/h), 200Wh/km. My Zoe, similarly with e208, could be considered not very efficient by consuming around 300Wh/km at 130km/h. At 90 km/h, even my Tesla is far away more efficient. Some say that it is very easy to make an electric car by adding battery, car body, wheels and electric engine. Sure? Kia Hyundai have also a good efficiency and in the top rated.

    • @OVKE2309
      @OVKE2309 Před 4 lety +2

    We need some small affordable EVs with range over 200 miles.
    I really would just be happy if the US got any PSA models. It will be a miracle if COVID-19 and the PSA-FCA merger doesn’t put a kibosh on PSA’s plan to re-emerge in the US.
    What I’d really like to see PSA offer is a 308 GTI electric. A hot hatch that’s also an EV with a range of 300 miles, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, and a price less than $35,000.

Also, as for the temperature, the range of EVs is the worst in winter, so testing at low temperatures would be more interesting than at higher temperatures.
