- We usually talk about the news, but did not expect to BE the news, which is what happened this week! Our Yah Lah BUT episode with Leong Mun Wai was referenced during this week’s parliamentary sitting by the Speaker of Parliament, Seah Kian Peng. What exactly was Mr Leong’s “act of contempt” on our podcast, and what did we think of the entire fiasco? Elsewhere, the “Friends of the PAP” group of influencers who were unveiled at a PAP event have come under scrutiny. Is there anything inherently wrong with being a buddy to politicians?

I think Friends of PAP terminology is being used thanks to the success of NParks Friends of Parks program (which Mr. Desmond Lee is very active in). Hence PAP is hoping to replicate that?

SKP is the epitome of a wet blanket. He could have given his perspective in a light hearted manner but instead chose to go down the route of pontificating and delivering a monologue which did not interest anyone at all in Parliament.

Maybe, one day when there are more opposition MPs in Parliament, the role of Parliament speaker can be rotated between the PAP and opposition MPs.
We only need A.I Speaker so that the question of biasness need not arise due to political affiliations. This is the parliamentary role that deserves to be replaced by A.I

leong sometimes says things that are not true specifically to an incident but reflects things pap has done in the past. that leong says things at the minimum makes pap more wary about abusing its majority position in the house
Watched the parliament proceedings. 🤣 Alamakkkkkk...such a LONG lecture. There are wars being fought in many other countries right now... to brood over just a few words - that's so "not on". But one good thing came out of it - free publicity for Haresh and Terence, so now evryone can get to enjoy this quirky podcast!

I thought I saw some of these "friends" who are not singaporeans, is being a citizen a pre-requisite to being a friend? what happens to non-inteference by foreigners in singapore politics? also how much are these "friends" who are influencers paid by the govt, shouldn't this be disclosed? it's paying for influence

If tax money were to be used for sponsoring youtubers or channels, then this must ve made transparent and must never be partisan or pro one party because last counted, there were about 40% voters or tax payers against

There is a huge (perhaps) in supporting govt policies and initiatives versus political party policies.
One is in the interests in the People’s wellbeing and the other in the interest of the party staying in power. (Friends of PAP)

Just to add, being friends to the party means you are involve in the party politics. Supporting the govt ie "Apolitical" means not interested or involved in politics. An apolitical position eg govt vendors such as contractors, service providers and, in this case influencers do not take sides on political issues or engage in political debates.

Well, as a great interviewer, one should ask more from LMW or even other guests whether is there truth or just a joke. If it's the truth, you hv more content.
For this instance, you chose to move on and make it ambiguous, the speaker will be seen as biased.
Every politicians be it incumbent or opposition will always want to be looked as impartial.
Due respect has to be given to Parliament and its proceedings; it was good for Mr Leong to apologise.

It’s not your fault. It’s not his first time to say something not correct. Leong is always asked to retract his statement. You may say PAP wants to fix him but why PAP seldom ask WP to retract statement, only to a few who frequently likes to make false statements. 😅 e.g Leon
