I went ahead and listened to that track to, untouchable was insane, and I’m glad I heard it because revival was an album I wrote off for the most part.
Small correction to an otherwise fantastic video: MGK released the BINGE EP a couple weeks following Killshot, with many people thinking it would include a comeback but instead he just put Rap Devil on it to increase engagement (unsuccessfully.) Then the following year in July is when Hotel Diablo came out, which is one of his better projects but as you said, the beef really influenced the reception.
I always feel like mgk would've been taken a bit more seriously if he released Hotel Diablo after the beef instead of Binge.

I feel like he knew better than to release Binge but was kind of pushed into it because of the hype. But, I have also felt for a long time if Hotel Diablo had been there it would have been better received. Also can we stop pretending like he didn't already have some of that pop punk in his songs before all the beef.
@@andrewrose8511 fr. There's shades of pop punk/rock stuff going all the way back to his earlier albums. He's always expressed an interest in making more songs in that genre as well. The timing coinciding with him losing a beef with Eminem is just that, a coincidence.
Problem is, you have to either be a fan or actively be looking for this information to know about it, and most people unfortunately aren't in either camp when it comes to MGK, so the easiest assumption to make is that he got slapped so hard by Eminem that he stopped making rap 🤷♂️. Nobody's gonna look at the full length album or the COVID mixtape that he dropped before his pop punk albums.

He doesn't have the same "F everyone" attitude he used to but thats because he's much older and more mature, but his music has never felt fake and its definitely always had a bit of a softer edge, Even in Lace Up, there is only like two songs with a "gangsta" feel to them, most of his songs have always felt softer and more emotional. IMO his most gangsta album is Hotel Diablo, and thats just because he was coming off his feud with Em. I think he was really worried about being perceived as weak when he was younger, he always seemed really on edge and worried about his image. He just got stereotyped into hiphop because he was rapping and people seem to think being a rapper means you have to be a Hoe banging dope slanging gangsta

It's probably because rappers usually don't actually try to attack Eminem on his actual weaknesses, instead focusing on things he can't control, like his skin color or where he comes from. MGK couldn't use either of those crutches, being also white and also coming from a less-talked-about area as well (Cleveland). I think what hurt Kelly the most is that:
1) he didn't have the fan base Eminem has
2) He isn't as strong of a lyracist as Eminem is
