"I got pieces of your hate in my soul" - That line gets me every time.
Some say that the song is meant to be sung by mother earth to us. We are the soulless creatures. I don't know, I can't entirely interpret the lyrics. But as so much Aurora it's not really about understanding the lyrics as much as it is feeling the emotions behind them. Also that repeating percussion movement is wonderful. And this song is a good example of one of those songs that will never be a single, hidden away at the end of an album, but to true fans, these are the type of songs you keep returning to.

Adam....you gotta react to the live version of this!
Sadly she's only played it live ONCE....in the live at Bergen concert she did with a full orchestra.
It's unsurprisingly.....amazing. I so hope one day she does another concert at Nidarosdomen, this time armed with a bunch of new songs she didn't have back in 2017. But same set up, same lighting, etc. And this song would be a must. It's one of her best imo....and weirdly underrated. People don't seem to talk about it as much as others.

There is a god live version of "in Boxes" from the Øya Festival Concert 2016. The whole concert from the beginning of her career is very god. Is it maybe time for a new "whole-concert-reaction" again?

I’m so glad you like this one! I love it, it’s one of my favorites too. I also want to mention, when she says ‘I give both sides of me’, she once said in an interview that what she means by that is that she wants to give the kind, loving side of herself, as well as the challenging side of her, because it’s with both that people grow. Just thought that was an interesting line.

So it's 20022022 and I've been going through your Aurora reaction videos 😊
This song also comes very high on my favourites. When I first heard it I found it a rather sad song, bordering on desperation, but beautifully sung, as always for Aurora.
After a few more listens I decided I needed to know more so I checked with AURORAwiki ...
"It means a lot to me and it's written about giving too much. It's Mother Earth writing to humankind about wanting to thrive again. ..."
Now I get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye every time I listen to it.

One of her hidden gems for sure....
Don't know why this song isn't more talked about.
Something about the melody and subtle key changes is just so gorgeous....very aching and yearning.
There's almost this very slight Dorian sound to the harmonic nature of it all. It's just a very cool song lol....

  • @laluba3603

To me this song is about being an "earthling" . When we die our bodies is picked apart into its smallest parts, - atoms, in order to transform and be rebuilt into other structures that will benefit this beautiful and kind spaceship we call earth. It's definitely not a sad thing. We become a part of everything. Looking at the beautiful world is looking at your future self. I love what I see, and I want to become a part of it.

This reaction was a new achievment in itself. Her poetry is really remarkable, so full of insight and with a fingertip sensitivity for values of words and not just the meaning. And on top of that a knowledge of what all sorts of people associate with the expressions she chooses. And this is in her second language. I know of other authors that change language because of emigration or other reasons, but they are mainly novelists. Not poets! Does any of her Norwegian fans know if she writes (and publishes or published) poetry in Norwegian also? How can one person be so unique in ALL respects? And can I ask Adam: Do you know any other poet of her class writing poetry in english as second language?

    Happy Birthday, Aurora!
Thanks for a lovely, insightful reaction/review. In terms of her discography, it’s from A Different Kind of Human (Step 2), so for now her latest album. She wanted it to have a story; a narrative, despite no one listening to songs that way anymore... for the most part. It’s in the middle, leading up to In Bottles, A Different Kind of Human, Apple Tree, The Seed, and Mothership.
“I went to France and I made _one_ album. And the songs they stick together, and they all have a story. I’m struggling with dividing it up. People don’t really listen to ‘albums’ anymore. But now I’ve made this as an album.” - Aurora

Hi Adam again a wonderful and insightful analysis of another brilliant AURORA song. I’ve certainly looked and appreciated this song much more after hearing your in depth interpretation. However just as you feel this this song is on a different level, I feel the same about Exist For Love. You kind of wrote it off as “just a love song” but to me it really is a new level of writing and imagery. In her livestream that she gave during the launch of that song she talked of love almost in a spiritual sense (these words are my interpretation of course) in that upon reaching that level romantic, absolute connectedness type love, it was a kind of light bulb realisation that this is what life is all about! We as humans are so privileged to be able to attain that level of existence, hence the importance for us all to “exist for love”. I suppose it’s a very similar concept to a line in that famous Nat King Cole song - Nature Boy - “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return”. (BTW AURORA does an amazing cover of that song and again she makes the song her own,) so .....no ...... not just another love song. I look forward to your next song analysis.

Thank you so much for reacting to my/our recommendation!!! You are so perceptive and sensitive, and always have very interesting insights. Listening to the song "together" with you gave me goosebumps, as if I've experienced it for the first time all over again.
I consider Soulless Creatures a masterpiece. It comes from Aurora's last music Album: "A Different Kind of Human (Step 2)". At the time it came out, Aurora said in an interview that she had been watching Sci-Fi movies, and listening to movie tracks. You can feel this influence in Soulless Creatures and A different Kind of Human. The lyrics of Soulles Creatures are profound, and have deep and dark meanings. It connects between soulless creatures in the sphere of interpersonal relationships and the "evil" forces that operate in the universe. One of the ideas I like is the description of the soulless creature feeding off his lover ("give me a piece of your heart..give me a piece of your hands"), until there is nothing left, and the lover loses herself.

@joonsriver • That's an interesting question. When I think about Aurora's songs, there is at least one song, "It Happened Quiet" which refers to having an intimate relationship with someone who is dead from inside or metaphorically has no soul ("Are your dreams as dead as they seem?"). So he/she doesn't feel any love towards his/her sexual partner ."Churchyard" has a similar theme, about mental abuse in a relationship ("Tell me how do people know what is love what is hurt?") .Psychologists would tell you that people with certain personality types, such as psychopaths and some narcissists lack empathy and compassion. They tend to manipulate others and use them as tools. But there are many people who are detached from their emotions, from different reasons. If they don't feel love towards their partner, having a romantic relationship with them can be hurtful. Even if they don't have any bad intentions. It may feel as if they have no emotions, no soul, although it's not necessarily true.

      @dganit8807 Před 3 lety

@joonsriver • I really relate to what you said, that people who lack empathy or compassion may be broken inside. It's a beautiful thing that you can identify with and have compassion for all kinds of people. I'm sure that Aurora also have compassion for people who are broken. Maybe she or anybody close to her were hurt by someone who was cold or abusive, and that's what the song is about. I really hope you'll continue to listen to Aurora's music!!! It's true that she's aware of both the beauty and the darkness in people. But that's because she is such a sensitive and empathic person.

    • @dganit8807
      @dganit8807 Před 3 lety

@joonsriver • BTW There are also other interpretations of the song, according to which it's a song about mother earth, and the soulless creatures are mythical creatures that cause all the evil in the world, and maybe also destroy mother nature. Aurora likes when people find different meanings to her song. So you don't have to accept interpretations that don't seem right to you.

The way I view this song is that the person singing the song is questioning if it's even worth it to try and save the human race from their own ignorance which will lead to destruction. How even in the end when the world gets revenge on us for our selfishness the world will still carry the scar from our ignorance to nature's importance. Excellent reaction, can't wait to see more :)

I have a recomendation for you though. In her promotion (there is a whole moment on Once Aurora about it even) she insists very much on the fact that she makes albums as such. They all have a story, a process. The art of making an album with its own main theme and direction instead of just a collection of songs and/or singles is not a lost art, but it is a neglected one. So when you have finished reacting to her album cuts independently, i really would advise you to listen to her albums as such, for the whole experience. They are not concept albums, but albums they are. Just a thought. ;)

I'm sure you'll gain tens of thousand subs in no time if you just continue uploading like this :) It's a simple clean setup with insightful and meaningful reactions (Not to mention that you've got looks as well haha)
    My recommendations:
    Soulless creatures cover by "LYSSA"
A different kind of human with a fanimation by "Ursa Allen" (Almost made me cry tbh)

If this is one of your favorites I highly recommend "A Different Kind of Human." Of all of her songs that one really speaks to me, but let's be honest they all do. Also, "Warrior," "Forgotten Love," and "Conqueror (her live American debut on Jimmy Fallon is an excellent version)." Happy listening 😀

I humbly suggest I Went Too Far at P3 NRK. You've heard the song maybe but it's just her singing and playing the keyboard. It's brilliant and heart-rendingly beautiful.

you should react to the philharmonic version with the bergen philharmonic orchestra for slightly changed lyrics. i mean, it's one of your favor titles and you shouldn't miss the experience of the only live recording of this song.

So now i've literally spent my whole day watching the full playlist of your reactions to Aurora, it was time well spent! She IS music, and i can't think of many others that embodies music in such a way and mannerism as she does! Her voice and her movements are simply magic and draws you in. This young girl is just an inspiration to all and her songs hits you straight in the core and stays there, and to see your honest reactions discovering her, makes me discover her all over again and it never fails, it just gets better. You got your self another subscriber, and next i would love to watch your wardruna reactions, another simply amazing artist but unfortunately i can't find it, hope you maybe can make a new one! and then i'd love to hear your reaction to the new song czcams.com/video/VEizKmZlUAw/video.html Lyfjaberg (Healing- mountain), if you haven't already heard it or seen it. Thank you for a great channel to subscribe to, it is absolutely a pleasure listening to you talk as well :) hugs from Norway

However, the video is blocked in all countries except for the UK due to copyright reasons 😓😓 The video is still on my channel, but I don’t know if you will be able to watch it 😓

Here's what she answered Clash Magazine when asked "What’s your favourite track on the album (A Different Kind of Human)?
    "
'Soulless Creatures'. It means a lot to me and it’s written about giving too much. It’s Mother Earth writing to humankind about wanting to thrive again. Sometimes I don’t understand what a song means for a while. It sounds pretentious and stupid but it does happen. I just write and write all the time. I have songs already for my fifth album.
