I'm doing similar to my 17 4runner.
Full bumper, Badlands Apex winch, no lightbar.
Already have CBI skid plates so I hope they match up fairly seamlessly.
I have 3 friends to help, all named Jack. Floor Jack, lol.
CBI rear bumper (no swing outs) too.
I'm planning to do it during 2 week vacation (staycation)
That’s awesome! It completely changes the look. Nice to have a big chunk of time to do it without feeling rushed. Good luck on the install!
I got the same one. Cbi doesn’t offer high clearance additions like other brands, but this good chance to make my own tubular ones.
Awesome! It really transforms the entire look. Good luck on the install!
How do you have such steady hands? Great video.
😂 💪
Great video. Can you reach the lever to free spoil the winch from the opening in the bumper?
Yes, you can reach the winch lever from the bumper cut out to free spool. Not with a glove or mitten though. Kind of awkward, but you can reach it. Thanks for watching!
Out of all the options, I think the CBI Covert is the best of the bunch. I also get a lot of compliments as to how good it looks on the 4Runner. Their quality is top notch.
Agreed. I couldn’t be happier with CBI, they well exceeded my expectations.
Thank you for creating a video showing all issues.
Thanks! I hope people find it helpful!
I recently purchased the same bumper. I'm planning to install in the spring after it gets a bit warmer. Between the install videos from you, CBI, and Baptism Overland, I'm confident I will have a good install. Thanks
Awesome! You’ll love the bumper!
thanks for the great video. Quick question. i am not going to leave my winch control plugged in all of the time. Can you reach the plug in from the hole in the bumper underneath? i saw you reach your hand up to demonstrate how you could mount a pod light later if you wanted to and im wondering if the hole on the other side will provide access to the winch.
I can’t reach the winch wire control plug from the bumper access holes and could only reach it from the top by opening the hood and removing the plastic cowl cover. I wasn’t going to do that every time, so I left it plugged in. So far keeping it plugged in and running the wire into the cabin works just fine!
If you have a wireless winch, then you don’t need to worry about plug access, only as a backup if the wireless fails.
I guess another option is to relocate the winch control box to a more accessible location, but then you need to worry about mounting that securely somehow.
If your winch is wired only, Harbor Freight makes a wireless controller adaptor that turns wired winches into wireless.
Good luck and thanks for watching!
Great video! Do you happen to know what the purpose of the removable lower grill is?
I’m assuming it’s for added ventilation. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
@@sunroomstudios8487 I can see the airflow advantage over other brands.
Any chance it allows you to access the bolts that secure the winch? Or access to anything else that would otherwise be hard to get at when the bumper is mounted? It seems like a lot of effort for them to design it to be removable if removing it has no purpose.
The plate appears to be removable but would require some manipulation. That would allow access to the mounting bolts for the winch, but there’s no chance that winch is coming out without taking the entire bumper off. I don’t see a real reason for this other than possibly an easier manufacturing process.
What lightbar did you install? Did you need any special brackets to mount the led light bar?
The light bar is some generic brand from R4T that was on super clearance sale. It works well with no problems so far. It’s a one time install though, so you don’t want to go too cheap and have to replace it later. This bumper came with some heavy duty light bar mounting brackets that will fit most light bars. You can see it at time 30:34. The hardware to mount the brackets comes with the bumper. The hardware to mount the light bar to the brackets typically comes with the light bar.
