This time we wanted to go backpacking to the majestic Gaustatoppen in Southern Norway and spend the night in a Samaya 2.5 tent up on the ridge. The Samaya 2.5 is an ultralight single wall tent weighing 1.7 kg including footprint. The weather forecast for the next day was excellent from early morning and we had our hopes to experience the sunrise from the summit. We weren't that lucky unfortunately and you could say that the forecast wasn't exactly spot on, at least not for the morning hours. But it was a really great experience anyways (although the tower creates some freaking noise)!
A visit to the DNT cabin which is located just before the huge tower is definitely mandatory. We had a waffle and a coffee there and a chat with the friendly staff running it.
Gaustatoppen is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Southern Norway and is easily accessible from the starting point of Stavsro. Gaustatoppen, with its elevation of 1883 meters above sea level, rises approximately 300 meters higher than any other nearby mountains and offers a 360-degree view from the summit. It is a unique mountain located in the southern part of Southern Norway. The trail from Stavsro is the most popular one and thousands of tourists hike there every year.
Tip: A much longer and much more varied hike can be done by hiking all the way from Rjukan and follow the valley on the west side of the mountain - that entails approx 1600 m of elevation gain and the distance is 11 km each way. Highly recommended if you're in ok shape :)

Hi, lovely video, looks like your having fun.
I am researching tents for using in as many conditions as possible and this samaya 2.5 so far is top of the list.
Now you have used it what are your thoughts? I will be using it as 1 person mostly. Is there a mosquito screen on the door of yours?
Do you think it's worth the money over other tents?
    Best wishes, James.

Thanks for your kind comment, James!
I haven't tested the Samaya 2.5 since this backpacking trip, however it's made for being used in harsh conditions in the Alps and I'm quite eager to test it in winter conditions here in Norway this season. My tent does not have the mosquito screen (the first edition did not have this option). If you're planning to use the 2.5 during the summer when mosquitoes and flies can be a real problem, definitely go for the version that has this option.
Keep in mind that a single wall tent is prone to condensation so it's wise to bring a cloth to wipe off the inner wall when you wake up in the morning. I used some tissue to wipe off the moisture early in the morning (I think I omitted that clip in the video).
Another thing to consider - how tall are you? I'm 184 cm. The tent is only 200 cm at the widest in the sleeping position. That might be a huge drawback if you're tall. You will end up touching head and feet towards the walls and this could/will result in your sleeping bag getting wet at both ends. Should put some protection on those areas.
I love the dome design , but in my mind the tent should've been 20 cm wider in all directions. This really is a deal breaker for taller people. Samaya 2.0 is 220 cm long however the walls don't look as steep so the extra space possibly is less than 20 cm.
The light weight of it is extraordinary, it just feels ridiculously light!
Make sure to get the footprint if you're planning to pitch it on a rocky ground.
I got it for a good price luckily. I'd be a bit reluctant to paying the full price but I guess that depends on you your financial position.
I also have a Hilleberg Keron 4 GT however that's a *totally* different tent - huge in comparison and extremely well built. And much much heavier.
The latter could work perfectly as a base camp tent and the 2.5 would be nice for a summit hike and spending the night at high altitude before returning to the Hilleberg at base.
      Hope that helps.
      Best, Oistein

@oisteinthomassen thank you so much for your very clear and helpfull reply. I will take it all into account. I am only 175cm tall, so maybe not a problem. Such a shame I cannot find one to try in person!
      Best wishes, james
