I saw this comment elsewhere (I think it was twitter?) but it's worth repeating: if more politicians acknowledged that they didn't have expertise in certain areas we'd probably be (at least marginally) better off.

That part about bathrooms shows that she realizes that the bathroom issue is generated by transphobic cis people. That's pretty obvious to most of us, but there are a lot of issues like that, issues that wouldn't be issues if cis people would just stop making issues out of them, and it's great to see a politician who seems to get that.
I really don't care who uses which bathroom, personally. It's not like you're arrested for going into the girl's bathroom in the first place.
But for others, it is a concern that the new transgenderism movement has yet to address in full. There are a lot of social and cultural aspects to a civilized society that cannot be solved by vaguely saying "just be more accepting".
These are real factors that should be debated when making policy for trans rights, if they even need the policy-making.

Public bathrooms in general are on the nasty side tbh (worst case scenario I've come across, a portajohn at a campsite, my grandma discovered a camera in the toilet :T) and I think all of us can recognize the peace and tranquility of just doing your business in your own, but we can't always and it'd be more harmful to force a female presenting trans woman to use a men's bathroom than to simply coexist in women's spaces. TLDR Trans Women Are Women, and making trans persons use their birth sex to determine the bathroom they use is not only transphobic but puts them in the direct line of harm to not only out themselves but also to very potentially trigger dysphoria (I mean, think about what you'd feel like if you were forced to use the men's room, even though you know you're a woman).

You have managed to have such a widespread publicity hype from this, and as a UK trans person who always feels like I'm misrepresented, belittled or ignored in the media this is incredibly important.
Not only that, but the article ended with a quote from you. "Don't just speak to me. Go out there, find trans people, talk to them". The fact they included that as their final note was just perfect.

This might seem really trivial and pathetic but I just wanted to say that I just shaved off all my body hair. I didn't do a good job because I all have is an electric and I kinda cut myself a few times because my skin's really sensitive but for the first time in forever I felt like I was doing something to make myself happy instead of just coasting along not bothering anyone and I don't know I guess I felt like shouting it into the void of the internet.

Thank God for Dan Olson, who before this stream I had no idea was such a fantastic interviewer. He was really great with both AOC and Susie from Mermaids.
He did a truly amazing job with Susie, he knew exactly how to draw out the best talking side of everyone involved even with them completely unprepared. I think that was when the donation rate just about doubled.

Dan and Casey are worthy of just as much praise as Harris himself, in my opinion. Dan did such a good job of hosting interviews. Casey worked tirelessly to keep everyone up to date on whatever news thing had just happened. Harris is the star of this show and rightfully so but the people who worked with him are also deserving of so much love. There was a moment when Suzie said this was a "tipping point" in the fight for trans rights and I think all of these people are to thank for it.

Hearing her say trans rights are civil rights are human rights brought tears to my eyes every time i watched this and i have done that 4 times so far. I know this is late, but Chelsea Manning is a transgender veteran who leaked information about the monstrosities the American government was doing at Guantanamo Bay- including holding a 14 year old boy in a federal prison, also an 80 year old man, and countless of other innocent people. She gave thouands of documents to WikiLeaks showing government corruption.
She's an American Hero. A traitor to the military but a hero to the common citizen.

I was just thinking the same thing. I know I'm late to the party, but I was just watching her appearance on Colbert, and I had never before seen an American politician actually honestly speaking about the issues and opining openly about their platform and ideology and expressing sincere concrete policy commitments. All I had ever seen was a bunch of spin doctor platitudes, gutless compromises, and cringey attempts to appear "relevant".
The typical machine candidates are so out of touch, so estranged from the common people as part of this political elite, that they are incapable of actually relating to the public on the most basic, organic level, and their behavior is this rehearsed artificial performance, a choreography created by some P.R./advertising firm.
Comparing her behavior and candour with that of our traditional political elite, this wretched aristocracy that so obviously has nothing but contempt for us, you realize that they really are (figuratively) fucking lizards.
I remember seeing that one clip where Alex Jones is harassing Bernie at the airport where from as I could tell, he was just travelling like an ordinary citizen, no private jet, no Secret Service detail, no shutting down the entire airport, and grounding the rest of us peons while His Majesty takes wing, no paramilitary style operation involved in shuttling some worthless old white asshole about who doesn't even know what century he's living in, yet wields the powers of a veritable prince. The negative phenomenon of not witnessing the usual bullshit in this regard was in itself a great thing to behold.
All Bernie had was his bag, a boarding pass, and one out-of-shape looking body guard.
Gotta say if these are portents of what the future bodes, I'm hopeful as hell. But, probably not, alas.

I'm a trans 14 year old girl who just wants to say how great this was, and to wholeheartedly agree with Ocasio-Cortez about the healthcare issue. This has been a really rough week for me, I started trying for hormones in October 2017, the week of national coming out day. That December we made an appointment with an endocrinologist to discuss lupron (puberty blockers). I should note that lupron and other anti-androgyns exist as a pause button so families can discuss estrogen. That makes it all the worse that it took 8 months for my parents to consent for it. But that bit is out of the governments control, here's where things get really fucked. I got my prescription in June 2018. For roughly three months, the insurance company (and yes I know I'm lucky enough to even have healthcare in America) said no, each time saying we were missing one more random thing, at one point my therapist needed to write a note saying it was necessary, and they still said no and we had to appeal again and again. I should note, for some expensive medicines, insurance companies need to sign off on prescriptions as well as doctors, to determine those things as "medically necessary". The blatant transphobia of calling hormones not necessary aside, they eventually had to cave because at a certain point it was a literal crime. Upon them sending us a letter saying they had confirmed the prescription, I figured the medicine was shipping, until three more months had passed and we had to go through a web of beaurocratic nonsense, calling number after number because the one they first gave us was totally useless, until 8 calls later we found out that they were waiting for our confirmation to ship, but forgot to ask us for our confirmation. So here we are. This week, I had an appointment to get my first shot of lupron, but they had to do one quick exam before, and when they did, they found that my puberty was so far along that trying to stop it was pointless. So I didn't get that shot. So essentially, the insurance company made me wait so long for medicine that I lost the window to even use that medicine. It got me really down, but seeing that there is at least someone in charge of our government that isn't and orange neonazi made things a little better. She really is giving us hope, it's so great to see the people at the top saying trans rights are human rights, This was kind of an unhinged rant cause I'm still recovering, but the basic point is, this video is good and I love Ocasio-Cortez
