My "unpopular" opinion is that the Sims 4 is too "safe." I liked the chaos of the burglars and all the crazy stuff that could happen. Now people seem to freak out about everything, like the child phases, especially the bear one. "OMG, my child is a furry! I need to drown them in the pool!" Calm down, it's a harmless phase that lasts a couple of days, just like the one where they blast the stereo. I personally think the bear phase is hilarious, not unlike a little kid who says they want to be a dog when they grow up. One of the most fun playthroughs I did was with a single male in the Scientist career. Poor guy never woohooed, but had 6 alien children from abduction and his clone. It was wild and chaotic. I'm so glad it's a single-player game. Everyone can play how they want. There is no right or wrong way to play. Great video Satch. I appreciate your sense of humor and your authenticity.

Oh god yes. I follow a Sims forum that mostly posts Sims 4 stuff, and it is one of the most toxic things I’ve seen. When my Wedding Stories came out people for weeks where calling for a complete boycott of EA and the game (understandable, but for weeks. No other posts got through) and that the Sims 4 was the worst game ever and only people who are absolutely simple enjoy it. It got so toxic to a point where I considered just quitting the Sims and never coming back to it because the Sims 4 is the only game I play, and I do enjoy it. So it kinda hurt being constantly told that a game I enjoyed was garbage(i understand its not great, but eh). Eventually at the end people started saying “shut up and just enjoy the game and move on, stop being toxic” which just made everything worse. But by then I left, wasn’t worth it even to see funny builds.

    • @athannyx6815

@@rriotghoul I think a lot of it is an extension of the problems that come from EA being a money grubbing company and lack of fixing bugs that make the game not fun to play. But I also think that EA from the beginning kind of screwed the Sims 4 game by not letting there be as much content from the beginning as the other sims games.
I used to just have the base game. It was fine. I'd say comparable to the sims 2 besides lack of traits to make sims unique and lack of worlds. But I also have never plays sims 2 just base game. So I gave sims 4 a fair shake. Is it perfect? No. But I enjoy it more than sims 3 which I have been trying to play again. And the sims gurus are at least trying. Which is more than can be said for the complainers.

Sims 4 has the most items yes, but it is lacking in UNIQUE items. That is why the gameplay is lacking. We don't need 500 dining chairs, we just need 100 different items that are giving different gameplay and experience.
I do think Sims community is toxic, they judge and exclude people who are different at the same breath they are promoting diversity. Yes, someone might be saying things that you might disagree. Discuss nicely people, not bash or attack. Some people also just jump into conclusions about some people just because they said ONE statement they don't agree with.

And that I can also click off of CZcams and go back to my own little Sims world alone 😅

  • @ViceCityExtra
    @ViceCityExtra Před 2 lety +121

I think my most unpopular opinion is that the reason why sims 4 lacks so much depth and autonomy is cause of the sims community themselves. Whenever they add something that can randomly occur (like a vampire house invasion) or autonomous behaviour people get so mad. They start complaining how these things are not part of their storylines, like why did my sim do X it doesn’t go with my storyline. It’s so popular for simmers to want to micromanage things so that everything goes in line with a thought out storyline that the sims team can’t add any drama through random events and autonomous behaviours without backlash. Hence, its not even worth for the sims team to try and add depth to be fair, especially since that’s not what the loudest players want. Then they have the audacity to complain about lack of depth and random drama like they weren’t the same people who complained so much about vampire visits and neighborhood action plans (AKA RANDOM DRAMA).
Yall need to take a look in the mirror. Yall complain about lack of depth then complain when it’s added cause it prevents your micromanagy gamestyle.

@@inksmears_ Also they don't seem to realise that randomly adding height sliders now would mess with the game most likely. It'd best to add it in the Sims 5, but even then it'd be hard. Have something like teenagers being smaller than adults but taller than children and maybe make adutls a bit taller than they are now. Also, if EA did focus on this, then it's possible we might miss out on other features and these people would get mad. I hate EA, but to be fair for once, you can't do literally everything at once.

The Sims 3 is many things (unoptimized, outdated graphics, heavy, cash-grabby), but *shallow* is not one of them. Every system in the game has a lot of depth. It is true that some things like vampires are more in-depth in The Sims 4 because they got an entire pack for that one occult (vs being a side feature in Late Night and having to share the pack with 4 other occults in Supernatural), but everything is more complex in The Sims 3 overall.

Yeah that was a weird opinion. I don't think he's played the sims 3 in dept beyond making videos for channel. Because it's extremely in depth, even things like the rabbit holes are in depth. They provide SO MUCH game play. Like you can have your sim tour them, take pictures in them that you can hang up, you can woohoo in them and try for baby. Then they have weekly events and things you can do. For example if you have a dog there are opportunities that come up where you can take your dog to a competition at the rabbit holes. But in order to do this you actually have to train your dog to do the tricks and it takes a while to teach them all the tricks.

Tell me please why a throwaway comment on a sim's nose is so worth this drama.
Also, the other day i saw a video about the pronoun update that claimed that The Sims is structurally transphobic because, even though we have gender customization option, even though you can wear any item of clothing regardless of gender, even though we have customizable pronouns, apparently TS4 is transphobic because the clothes look weird on the body structure that's not the one it was designed for. I am a primarily a male occult player, ALL my sims are guys (as well as my characters outside of sims) and I always get ticked off when somebody says "I hate male sims, they're so hard to make!" No, they're not, you just don't even try. I get that for most of the players, female sims are more fun to make, the same way I have waaayy more fun with male sims, but goddman, the toxicity against male people in the sims community in general is so gross. I have seen hundreds of posts of people saying the despise when their sims have a male baby, not to mention de CC creators. If I had a penny for everytime I needed a specific piece of cc and ONLY found it for female I could probably buy a car. Most of the times I end up having to change the cc in the Sims 4 Studio to also fit for men, because a lot of the creators lock them for the opposite gender, even if it's an item that's supposed to be gender neutral. God bless male cc creators, they're doing God's work. This is a long rant but I needed to get this off my chest, and I pretty much agree with every other point in the video. The sims community is absolutely garbage. Thank you for being so open about all this, your content is extremely refreshing. @@anonymouslol7010 I think the worst part about it is the sims team *does* have an opportunity to do unisex outfits and just be as creative as they want with male sims and... They *also* just don't. What is the point of masculine CC if you hardly make any, so even putting female sims in masculine clothing is hard, but also separate categories when I have to remove those tags anyways. The masculine and feminine tags can sometimes be worse than useless depending on the vibe I'm going for.

I play like this too, mainly because I was bored of always having 9.999.999 simoleons available and having the needs decay disabled (I know, boring). Also because I am challenging myself to complete some aspirations and have the reward traits without cheats, but the thing is that the game itself is so bugged that it is almost impossible not to cheat at least once.
For instance, I had the Forever Full trait (that I had obtain legally) and it was working fine, but at some point, my sim started to be hungry again EVEN THOUGH SHE STILL HAD THAT TRAIT.
The solution? Had the trait removed with cheats and add it again (I know there is a potion that removes all the sim traits, but that is NOT what I wanted).
That was a bit frustrating because that, at least for me, proves that it is impossible to play without cheats :(

I mostly use needs cheats when I have one sim leave home for a few hours and come back home to everyone up in the middle of the night. So I deplete their energy needs to send them all to bed. 😂 I consider it fixing the game screwing up my timetable, lol. I also sometimes cheat toddlers into longer naps. I try not to cheat food and bathroom and let them cycle normally, but sometimes I give in.

They do it a lot with men as well to be fair. Well, at least female simmers do. Male sims probably just make the female ones unrealistic lol. I'll admit, as a male simmer, I'm probably guilty of always making female sims very pretty, but i do also make them look at least somewhat realistic. Anyway, I was in a Facebook group and some woman made an unrealistic male sim and women were thirsting over him in the comments. Like, no, that's stupid. One, he's a sim, he doesn't exist. Two, that body is very unrealistic and your standards are ridiculous (I mean 'you' generally, not you in particular). At least I don't do that with female sims, show it to female simmers and imply they must live up to that. My sims are mostly vampires as well so how the fuck would they anyway lmao. Yeah your sim is pretty but it's not really great for people with low confidence who also hate their bodies when you make these weird, unrealistic looking sims and imply it's sexy. Not good for me as a man who has struggled with that stuff and I'll probably just stop looking at those.
Note I don't give a fuck what your sims look like, before anyone gets mad. I'm saying that creating unrealistic looking sims, setting stupid standards and implying people in real life should follow them is harmful. Yes, it's just a game, the problem is they're using a nice, innocent game to spread a harmful message.

TS2 and TS3 did indeed have a gender attraction system built in, but you couldn't directly manipulate it; you had to direct your sims to have romantic interactions with the gender you wanted them to prefer. In practice, you had to have a lot of interactions towards one gender in order to establish a preference for your sims. Supposedly the system was made more strong in the expansions of TS2, but in practice, all of them still tended to be pan/bisexual.

"The sims gaming community is one of the most toxic gaming communities out there"
As both a simmer and a League of legends player I do feel like both communities can be super toxic but from the exact opposite sides of the spectrum.
LoL players in general are known as frustrated edgelords, they will curse you out, they're often extremely sexist, racist and homophobic, they'll basically shit on you for existing.
Simmers in general are all over twitter nowadays and from what I've seen people can take sensitivities to a whole other level, I myself am pro-LGBT and do think it's good we're adjusting our games to be more inclusive in terms of disabilities and cultural differences.. But the thing that comes with a gaming community that caters so heavily towards inclusivity is that it'll just never be good enough, there will always be things to be upset over and some really do take that to the extreme.
In the end though I think most of us are really somewhere inbetween, neither an edgelord nor overly sensitive, it's just that those extremes get the most attention and are often taken as representative of the entire community, I think it goes without saying that it doesn't represent the majority of us.

Meh, when I make them in CAS I am happy to make a choice because even with open ended sexuality, most sims will end up straight not because it’s realistic so much as default - and sims are crazy breeders when you let loose the reins (I have carefully culled mu neighborhood stories for this reason). So when I am establishing an adults and a town, I intentionally mix it up. Also, if I am gonna make my own family in CAS, I am queer so my ideal family would be two women and a kid or two. That being said, once I get to Sims born in game I usually let the events of that Sims life guide me. Mostly because they will actually have a whole life to shape them. It’s always player choice to some extent, they are pixels and programming not real people so a true mix up to get the percentages I want takes some nudging.

I think we should be able to choose that when creating a new save file in the Sims 4, just like we can choose which season to start off in (if u have seasons ofc).

In a game released with pronouns for characters/players it’s probably easier, but Sims 4 just wasn’t released with custom pronouns from day 1. I’m not saying impossible, I’m saying tricky. I think that you’re really funny and genuinely laugh at your commentary. Not everyone is going to appreciate what you’re doing, but you can’t please everyone and that is what it is

Exactly! People start drama because of someone's opinion about a small issue.
I remember that , i decided to search for my username on TikTok, i mean who hasn't done that? Then a random video popped up. It was someone talking sh*t about me , because I did NOT give them my account🤦‍♀But obviously I didn't start a whole drama on TikTok. That would've been pretty stupid. It bothers me how a lot of people in the sims community don't realize that every individual has a different opinion, like you said.
Here's an example : I found a pen on my way to school, picked it up and brought it home.
Some people would see me as a thief, others would do the same.

Agreed. So badly agreed that it hurts, I feel like a sane person again hearing some of your thoughts😂
When the pronoun update came out, I voiced two concerns. 1, I was wondering how this would impact modded moodlets that use he/her variants, which I think is a fair concern to have. 2, however, got me FLAMED. I was dubbed a biggot and a transphobe that hated trans people and wanted them to suffer and feel unrepresented. So what was my concern that was so awful? I was worried male sims wouldn't default to he/him and female sims wouldn't default to she/her and I'd have to constantly manually change it. That's it. I didn't care if the update was getting released if I could choose to not engage with in-game. I wasn't calling for its removal. I wasn't saying it's awful and going to trans the kids or whatever. I just didn't want to deal with it since that's not what I play in my games... And I got yeeted out of this world for that😂 I hope more people take several seats and a couple of chill pills and relax already

I really appreciate this video. As much as I love The Sims I left the fandom months ago. It was starting to affect my fun of the game which I didn't want. For a game as open as The Sims people really love to push their own ideas and if you disagree OH BOI. People really should stop for a moment and realise that just because you dislike something doesn't mean it's offensive. Not everything has to be offensive, you can just dislike something and move on! I've literally had people call me problematic for allowing some of my male Sims to get pregnant in same sex relationships when... Trans people exist? The amount of stuff I've heard is just absolutely beyond me.

Ik this is an old video, but what you said perfectly sums up my feelings towards this whole debate around the sims community being toxic. I never understood it, and probably never will. This is the video where you officially became my favorite youtuber that covers the sims games. There’s a reason why i like your content more than others. You’re naturally funny, and i feel like you can be very relatable to me personally. With the style of humor etc…

New sub here. I got to say It’s been a while since a CZcams-recommended video led me to some actual good content. As someone who has played most of the Sim franchise, I 100% agree with everything you said here regarding the games. However, regarding the community, in my opinion, toxicity seems to be sprinkled everywhere nowadays, so, unfortunately, that's unavoidable at this point.

My thing about alpha CC is not only does it look better but the point of playing The Sims with it is that you can make someone that isn't you, that you would find attractive or just how you view YOUR world. Playing Second Life or IMVU wouldn't give you the options you can get playing TS like the building options and the bit of gameplay we do have. You can't find that in other games that is why TS has no competition yet. Besides IMVU sucks and hasn't been the same since the early 2000s.

I do agree with the challenge part. I very rarely use cheats, the only one I really use is sometimes MOO, if I want to put a tv on a fireplace or something like that. I love the challenge of starting with 0 dollars and building up. The problem is, that challenge only lasts a very short time, because you get money SO easy so fast in the game, and then I get bored. So I end up doing dumb things like, I can only get money from selling cupcakes on the flea market table. I don't use mods or CC.

    • @bluecruzer1960

that is actually fun I do rags to riches pulling my mods folder out just to see what can be done and like you will pick just one way to make money just to make it harder I even in one challenge did a rags to riches and wound up with a grand champion vampire in Sulani no mods or cheats used edit I was told it couldn't be done

@@bluecruzer1960 My favorite one I've done, I didn't allow my Sim to buy anything from BB mode if it could be crafted in some way instead. So she had to use public bathrooms until her handiness was high enough on the woodworking table to craft a bathtub and shower. All her food was home grown. All furniture possible was made on the woodworking table. Decorations were her own paintings or cross stitch. But she had to get llamas for the cross stitch and knitting, but then she got rugs and clothing as well. I did buy things like a fridge and stove because I had no way to craft those, but it was a very fun challenge to see how much stuff you can actually do on your own in the game.
