Bath Time Blunders: How To Avoid Staining Your Tub!

  • Will your bath products stain? The most concentrated colorants are dyes. So wear gloves & protect the surfaces you're working on. Dye stains if it gets wet and is allowed to sit. The second most potent form of dye is after it's been bloomed & turned into color powder or liquid colorants.
    WILL IT STAIN MY TUB?
    Chances are higher for staining if the tub is old or the surface has imperfections, like nicks, cracks, or really worn down areas where the tub gets used a lot. The more porous a surface is (or the less smooth it is), the more susceptible it is to staining. In my experience, staining a smooth tub is not that easy. I strongly feel that normal wear & tear, heavy scrubbing, &/or tough chemicals can compromise areas of the top coat & make those areas susceptible to staining. Over lots of time & a ton of colorful bath bombs, my 10 year old tub got a very light pink stain. I didn’t notice the light pink stain until days - maybe weeks after. Which by then, it was too late. Be vigilant. Check your tub after each colorful bath Rinse your tub. Never let a stain sit on the surface- take care of it right away.
    TRICKS TO REMOVE THE TUB STAIN
    Try rinsing first. Next, try a tough cleaner for tub grime, like scrub & bubbles aided by scrubbing (go easy!). Trying washing away the stain with dish liquid. Put isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball and clean the dye stain off the tub. Nail polish remover can be useful. * Test it in a small, hidden area before using as some kinds contain dyes that could leave a stain. Powdered cleansers can also work; try baking soda or a commercial powdered cleaner. Mix a small amount of Oxyclean with water to make a paste, then rub the paste over the stain with a cloth. If the stain is stubborn, make a paste with baking soda and water, spread the paste over the stain, and let it dry. Wash off the dried paste, which should have absorbed some or all of the dye stain. Repeat the process as many times as needed to fully remove the stain. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers can also work well on dye stains. Moisten the eraser and wipe off the stain. If the tub is white, you can try using bleach to remove the stain. Dye stains can be difficult to remove, but early intervention is key & persistence usually pays off.
    WILL IT STAIN MY SKIN?
    I use lots of dye in most of my bath products & the only times (maybe twice) its ever stained my skin is when an extremely colorful bath bomb sat directly on my skin for an extended period of time while in the water. And the stains were very light & disappeared after 2 baths.
    BOTTOM LINE
    I can't guarantee you that your products won't stain. Protect yourself & inform your customers with a sticker on your bath bombs that warns users about potential staining.
    *** In the video I am referring to dyes, which are water soluble. Polysorabate 80 does NOT prevent stains. It prevents messes (like the dreaded ring around the tub) from colorants that aren't water soluble, like micas and lakes.

    I would love to see a video of you making all that color powder in your bathroom… it would be helpful to me to see the whole process and every detail of what I’m really getting myself signed up for and into. Thanks so much you look like “the bomb, incarnate” today.

    Your dog is SO cute! Is he/she a Westie? Maltese? Maltipoo? In my head I immediately thought... "No way! She even has the dog I've been wanting!" Small breed, white, & fluffy! Our dog died and we've been learning about the breeds and looking. When we're ready we will get a new one. :) Thank you for sharing your inspirations, successes, and learning opportunities!😊

      Hey Malinda. I'm pretty sure she's a maltipoo because her hair isn't straight. I got my first maltipoo, "Beyonka", when I was 18. Then my dad, stepmom, cousins, etc. got them after they saw her (I never went anywhere without her). They're amazing companions, plus, they don't shed! "Oprah" [seen in video] was my dad's dog. I got her when my dad passed away 10 years ago. The ONLY thing is that maltipoos like to tear up paper. Other than that I think they're the perfect dog.

    Well, no sooner do I watch this video do I decide to bloom some dyes for the very first time, and I stain my bathroom sink! We just moved here a month ago and now there was a big pink stain. I tried every cleaning product I had on hand and nothing budged. I got Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser and it came up easy with just a paper towel! I now won't do anything coloring related without having that on hand.

    I have a older home. Everything stains the counters. Bar keepers friend powder into a paste works on these old countertops. 😂

    So, can anyone tell me if there actually is a red bath bomb colorant that does not leave a ring or a stain on your tub, sink, or person? We've tried everything and have not been successful. Any proven dying products out there we need to try? Thank you!!!

      It's always a risk that you take when you make really colorful bath bombs. But in my personal experience (which is considerable), it's never stained. Plus, I've given bath bombs to family, friends, acquaintances, neighbors, teachers, etc. and never once has anyone ever said anything about staining.

    I have been wanting to make a black bath bomb but have been hesitant because of fear of tubby staining. Does poly 80 really prevent staining?

    • @CreativeBathLab
      @CreativeBathLab  Před 10 měsíci

      Great question. In the video I am referring to dyes, which are water soluble. Polysorabate 80 does NOT prevent stains. It prevents messes (like the dreaded ring around the tub) from colorants that aren't water soluble, like micas and lakes.

    Try using CLR to remove the stains, it helped remove the colorants in my son's powders he mixes into his bottled waters, and I have white granite countertops. Spray or apply and leave on for a least 10 mins. then rinse and wipe clean.

    Doesn't polysorbate 80 help to prevent stains?

    • @kasie680
      @kasie680 Před 10 měsíci +2

      I’m not sure if it prevents stains so much but it disperses dyes and oil into the water for easier rinse off
