Thanks so much, Emily! I would love if you could do a video some time on intonation.
Thanks for your great suggestion! It's on my list... just be a little patient 😜
Thank you so much Emily for your instructive tips!
You are so very welcome!
I'm completely in love with your videos. Thank you so much for your advices, they're so helpful and important to me.
Thanks so much - really glad you like the videos!! 👍
Thank you so much Emily!!! This was very insightful and I am in the process of working on excerpts and solo repertoire that I have been afraid of such as Peter and the Wolf, Voliere from Carnival of the Animals, Petrushka, the Ibert Concerto and a few others.
You're welcome, Kiara! I've added your suggestions to the list... keep watching!
instablaster.
Emily, you are really one of the greatest flutist in the World. Thanks for the tips!
You are very kind, Fedor! I’m glad you found the tips helpful! Good luck 🍀
Brilliant 👏 and eloquent presentation. 👍
Glad you liked it!
Thank you very much!😊
You're welcome 😊 Thank YOU for watching! 😄
Hello, Emily
I am looking forward to this👍👍👍
Let me know what you thunk! I hope you find it helpful!
Will do👍
Hello Emily,
In your Q&A session on the 25th. What time are you doing it?
And how could we ask you the questions?
Thank you🙏
Dear Emily:
First thing.... thank you so much for the tutorials!! Me and my pupils, we love them and they are very useful for our online lessons here in Spain.
And, second... I would like to propose you about next tutorial. What about recording some of the Karg Elert 30 caprichos, op. 107??
Best regards!!!!
Eva
Thank you, Eva - so glad you like then and thanks for the great suggestion!
Thank you so much for this! I dream of becoming an orchestral flutist after my studies, so your tips are really helpful! How many auditions did you have to attend before getting the orchestra job?
I was very lucky indeed; I only did 4 professional auditions and they all resulted in something positive. The first was an extra work audition and I got on the list, then after the 2 auditions, 2 consecutive trials (one of which became a job) and then Concertgebouw.
Thank you so much Emily! I always feel very nervous in auditions, in the worst situation, my fingers and legs become weak and even shaking. Could you please tell me how to overcome the nervousness?
Thanks for your question...& it's quite a big one! I will certainly address this in my Q&A on 25th June! But for the moment, a question to you: is this - a) just for auditions or b) also concerts? My answers: a) find 5 ways that you can make your auditions feel more like concerts or b) don't be shy about admitting this and look for help; there's more and more great literarature avilable on this topic and there are also some wonderful specialised performance (arts/sport) psychotherapists who are there to help!
@@EmilyBeynonflute Thank you so much!! Looking forward to your Q&A on 25th June!
Thank you so much! I was looking through your "standards" list and noticed that Prokofiev's Classical Symphony is not on the list. Is it considered a "standard" excerpt?
Oh yes, that turns up quite a lot indeed!
How many competition rounds are there usually?
Hi there! It varies from orchestra to orchestra, but we have an initial 'paper' CV round, then 2 'blind' rounds (behind a curtain) and then the final.
How much practice per day would be reccommended to spend on excerpts for audition prep?
Ha - ha! How long is a piece of string?! 🙃 Let’s put it this way - for me at least, they are the most important part of an audition! Don’t forget that working in the excerpts includes listening to the whole piece (a lot!) too!! Good luck 🍀
@@EmilyBeynonflute Okay thanks sorry if this was a silly question - it's just I'm a full-time music teacher aswel so it's hard to fit in the hours.. I'll definitely try and incorporate more listening :) Thanks so much
Hay Emily. Your video thumbnail is simply awesome!
While searching some stuff about flute making, your thumbnails caught my eye, and you looked both cute and clueless, so I watched the video even though I am a bass player and a composer.
Here is something that I hope it will bring you a smile as much as your thumbnail did to me.
