  • ‪@ARRahman‬ is a man of few words. But he makes an exception while praising Sadhana Sargam.
    He eloquently describes her as "one of the few Indian vocalists who could surpass my expectations in her rendition of my songs."
    It was for Hindustani (Hindi dubbed version of Tamil film - Indian) when Sadhana Sargam sang for A R Rahman for the 1st time and soon became one of his most trusted singers.
    Hindustani (released in 1996 ) was directed by Shankar. Its cast included Kamal Haasan, Manisha Koirala, and Urmila Matondkar.
    Indian became a blockbuster. It was selected as India’s entry for Oscar.
    Minsara Kanavu was released in 1997. In Hindi it was released as Sapney.
    Directed by Rajiv Menon, it was Kajol’s debut film in Tamil. The cast also included Arvind Swamy & Prabhu Deva. The film won four National Film Awards.
    One of its most popular tracks Vennilave (Chanda Re) was sung by Sadhana Sargam in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
    She also sang the iconic song Snehithane (Chupke Se) in Alaipayuthey (Sathiya in Hindi).
    Alaipayuthey: Director - Mani Ratnam, Cast - Madhavan, Shalini, Lyrics Vairamuthu
    Sathiya: Director - Shaad Ali, Cast - Rani Mukerji, Vivek Oberoi, Shahrukh Khan, Tabu. Lyrics - Gulzar
    Sadhna Sargam’s mother tongue is Marathi. Yet she managed flawless rendition while singing in Tamil & Telugu. How? Sadhna Sargam reveals this secret. Rahman Music Sheets Episode 45

    Many congratulations to this team for churning out such a good series of episodes.
    I love it that the singer/ director being interviewed is the sole person in frame, and the person is given time to speak at ease and is never interrupted.
    These interviews are going to age really well and will act as trivia references for decades to come.
    Now, when can we expect you to interview Director Shankar, imtiaz Ali, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, chitra, unnikrishnan
    We totally missed the opportunity to listen to SPB in this series

      Simply put there is nobody to compare with.
      Regarding genres/styles Rahman has done jazz, blues,folk (Tamil, Punjabi, Kashmiri), hindustani, carnatic, trap, hiphop, edm, house, trance, dupstep, western classical, opera, street music (Italian, Brazilian, Zamibian), heavy metal, rock, pop devotional, arabic, persian, qawali, jingles, themesongs for tournaments and others.
      Though he has not done symphony conducting he is different from the composers mention above because he can sing in various styles and languages in technical detail without training. He is a synthesizer wizard and equally good on piano (jazz, classical, mainstream). Equally good with technology (protools, drum machine, fingerboard, harpejji, sound engineering) and acoustic instruments (guitar, wind instruments, harmonium) and does most of the creative work himself with maximum and judicious use of technology

    What a masterclass in humility and charm! Sadhanaji retains the innocence and grace that marked her debut in Ek Chidiya. See her disarmingly simple spirit of surrender - Giving complete credit to the composers, the musicians, lyricists, her language coaches. As for the Mozart of Madras, he has his fair share of detractors for having brought in non-native (read Hindi speaking) singers to sing Tamil songs. The same critics- and i can vouch for this as a Tamilian myself - will admit that Sadhanaji and Shreyaa are the two who did complete justice to the songs, with dedication and focus on correct articulation and pronunciation. Thank you for yet another fantastic episode. This just gets better and better!

    Another brilliant episode of a singer who’s much awaited and I always feel like she’s the female Hariharan for ARR songs despite not having that Ghazals touch in her voice. The sweet melodious undertones of her voice are so lilting with her unique fragrance of innocence makes her a perfect choice for many of Rahman melodies. I also wish that one of her Telugu songs from Mahesh Babu’s movie Nani abt mother which is a lullaby must be covered. Eventhough the lyrics and music too standout for that song, Sadhanaji’s humming in the interlude is just the icing on the cake and one has to listen to it fully to know what i’m saying. That humming is so innocent and melodious and gives that motherly feels for her son very much. This song too is one of her biggest hits almost on the lines of the two songs that are covered in this episode.
    However, I loved the fact that she sang ek chidiya as a 6 year old child is just too good a mention though not relevant here but yet gives a glimpse of what an artiste she was at such a young age. It just got me back in to those fond memories of those times when we have only one Tv channel to watch and yet every program was so memorable that we remember them even today. But that unnecessary grilling on the awards could be little avoided. However, despite singing some fantastic Hindi songs she found her fortune through Southern musical legends like Rahman and Ilayaraja for which she won even a National award. Many times these awards even the National awards seem to go to the undeserving particularly when such political pressures and lobbying are also involved. But the way the people of South embraced her even more than the North should have been the topic of discussion instead of awards as much. South Indian recognition and people’s fondness just grew for her particularly after Snehithane became such a huge hit everywhere. She sang many more beautiful songs both for ARR and for others in South but Snehituda remains the most melodious and memorable of all. After all, that’s the song that gave her that huge break she must have been waiting for and made her almost a house hold name down south.
    Expecting many more of her great melodies to be covered in the coming episodes like the one I mentioned first. She’s a singer that doesn’t bore us so easily and so a few good episodes will cover her association with ARR fully well.

Know her for ages as a relative and in her childhood, her favorite song in family functions used to be "JAYOSTUTE" song composed by Pr Hridaynath Mangeshkar and lyrics by Vi.Da.Savarkar. My Tamizh friends acknowledge her as one of the few singers whose Tamizh pronounciation is error-free. God bless her.

      True, the Tamil and Telugu versions sounded much soulful for me than the Hindi one despite their good lyrics. We can't say she sang more soulful in South but somehow it always feels that way when you compare. It's the same case with the entire movie and songs picturising too. Similarly the title track of Saathiya lacks the original magic of Pacchandaname which Hariharan sang so soulfully!

    You are talking about O palan hare of Lagan film, Sadhna Sargam sung with Lata Mangeshkar. For me it's very tough to identify voice between them, from that time Sadhna Sargam became my fav.

    • @anantha1201
      @anantha1201 Před 2 lety +1

      If she sang in O paalanhare, then why is her name not mentioned in the song credits? I only remember seeing Lata Mangeshkar‘s name on the album cover but not Sadhna Sargam and that too she’s not a track singer but a full time playback singer. But i now could reconnect and recollect that she might have sung the Antara part yet barely distinguishable from Lataji’s voice. That’s the game changer point here I see.

    Here the interviewer should concentrate about her experience with ARR as she was considered as one of the most recorded artist with ARR. Rather he was concerned about her awards and bollywood filmfare awards.. No body was interested in bollywood filmfare ; people have their own rating of singers irrespective of awards... Even questions are about her awards ? Which is irrelevant everyone know about her standards and legacy .. please ask about ARR ...

    • @anantha1201
      @anantha1201 Před 2 lety +2

      Ya that unnecessary grilling on awards could be avoided. However, despite singing some fantastic Hindi songs she found her fortune through Southern musical legends like Rahman and Ilayaraja for which she won even a National award. But then even if it’s a national award where there’s said to be even more lobbying and so who cares about these awards as much as you rightly said. Many times these awards even the National awards seem to go to the undeserving particularly when such political pressures and lobbying are also involved. But the way people of South embraced her even more than the North should have been the topic of discussion instead of awards as much.
