Parkland Massacre Survivor Makes Major Deal with School Shooter

- According to a new agreement between survivor Anthony Borges and the Parkland shooter, Borges will have to grant his permission for the gunman to appear in any sort of interview. The killer also agreed to donate his brain to science when he dies, so it can be studied. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber speaks with Borges’ attorney Alex Arreaza about the decision and what this means going forward.

Anthony Borges now owns Nikolas Cruz’s name. So if people want to make books, netflix/hulu streaming specials, newsmagazine exposes, true crime documentaries using his name they can't unless Borges says it’s OK. Even interviews since the headline wlll be his name and can't now the interview can't be published anywhere. Anthony has silenced Nikolas to avoid him and others more ptsd from ever hearing about him again.
i believe this will inspire so many victims to do the same to prevent having to relive the traumatic experience or having the wrong people gain money from their worst day.

He made a point, several times, to make sure we know he’s been practicing for 30 years, knows how to talk to criminals, how much work it took etc. This should have been mainly about the victim, this boy is suffering and not just physically. My friends baby survived 5 shots when he was an infant in a crib during a home invasion, no it wasn't stray bullets it was direct fire. The people were never caught .

My kids are adults now but I always answer their calls regardless of the time. Even when my phone is set to "do not disturb" I have it set up that their calls/texts will still come through. I'd never forgive myself if I missed a crucial call.

I used to live next door to a woman in Tahoe who owned the rights to the Manson name which she inherited through a relative. She knew very little about Charles Manson, she was not personally impacted by the crimes in any way, and she never worked a day in her life. She just collected a monthly check and had zero work ethic and no sense of the value of money. Oh and she was on drugs.

Constantly moving Cruz around is not only beneficial for security reasons but has the added benefit of preventing his accounts from catching up to him. No commissary for Cruz.

I wonder what the lawyers cut is. 33% of future earnings? Because anyone that wants to make a documentary, book or movie about the horrible events that day, have to go through him now. Lots of money on the table. Lawyer says they don’t want this story being retold. We’ll see what happens. But I imagine now that the killer won’t get the money, there will be movies, docs, interviews all kinds of stuff.

Either way, I think it’s a smart, innovative and out of the box thinking to go after the rights to his name, ESPECIALLY since Cruz is penniless & has nothing of monetary value to give to his victims. This is smart & I really really hope Anthony is able to continue on his healing path. Complex PTSD is so life altering & life consuming, I pray that Anthony is able to find a treatment that will help him process this immense trauma & continue on living a happy & fulfilling life.
Yeah, the lawyer snowed the kid and his dad. He presented it like this is an opportunity to prevent any stories being told about Cruz, but he knows that when a $500K check comes knocking at the door down the road, they're going to take it and he has a provision in the agreement that entitles him to a nice cut of it.

I think the victims should automatically own their perpetrators name. My heart just aches for every one of these kids and their families, and it’s been awhile.
It's like a whole separate victory. For having caused mass destruction to the lives of so many, it was the right move to sign his name away. I hate that this victim has such PTSD, and I imagine it's the worst kind. I know he must be forever proud of how he handled that moment though, Anthony that is.
Thank you for sharing Anthony's story. I pray he finds peace and God's purpose for him going forward. There is a young lady from Alabama, Lulu Griffin, who became a double amputee in a shark attack recently. She, too, was an athlete. Life isn't over. Anthony, you are a rock star. ❤

I cry every time I see or hear these personal stories of mass shootings. I can't imagine what it would be like to continually hear your own experience repeated over and over again, especially for the shooter or the shooter's family to be profiting off it. I'm glad that wont' happen.

That right should have been shared between all victims and families.
They might not all agree on how to use those rights which would lead to more lawsuits between each other. There may be, for example, some family who feel like they want to make money off of this story while other who do not. This would only prolong the suffering of all the survivors. You have to remember that when it comes to money, a lot of people suck and will become greedy.

This was a Impressive move from both sides, and mutually beneficial. No matter what you think about this murderer, he didn’t think it was as fun and cool afterwards that he thought it would. A true ASPD person would not cover his or hers ears while audio from the killings were played in court. They would truly enjoy listening. So he bought him self a bit less bad concious and the victims get to have one less thing to worrie about.

Psychopath as per DSM-5: They pretend to care • Display cold-hearted behavior • Fail to recognize other people's distress • Have relationships that are shallow and fake • Maintain a normal life as a cover for criminal activity • Fail to form genuine emotional attachments. - They are distant and oblivious to the feelings of others. - They have a manipulative personality. - They do not mind crossing the line of what is right and do not follow the normal rules of coexistence. - They are attracted to risk. - They tend to have addictive behaviors. - They have no remorse after committing all kinds of serious crimes. - They are cruel. - They distinguish perfectly between what is right and what is wrong. - They do not usually have stable personal relationships. - Their life is governed by pragmatism and feelings do not matter. - They are not afraid of being punished for their crimes. This is why Nikolas Cruz is so defiant and disrespectful in court. As a doctor, below I share the differences using Marshall (2022):

What a strong and brave person he is. The smartest thing I’ve ever seen. To own ownership of the shooters name so that he cannot agree to have a movie or documentary done on what happened that day. These victims shouldn’t have to relive that day years later because lifetime wants to make a movie about it. Bury that day along with the shooters government name. Bravo young man. Sending him and his family and all the victims and families that were affected prayers, hugs and peace.

He wants to protect the other victims and not allow his name to be heard anymore. He has the potential to profit off his name but won the case because he said he doesn't want profit making items to be made with his name. Let's hope he sticks to that word.
