Awesome! I would love to buy one of these just to cruise around town in. I don't know why I love the German designed vehicles of WWII so much. I was in the US Army as a tank mechanic and stationed in Germany for 5 years. The closest thing that we had in the US Army during my enlistment was what we called the Gamma Goat. I was assigned and drove one in Erlangen Germany in 1982. One time I drove the Gamma Goat in a convoy all the way from Erlangen to Hohenfels and also Grafenwöhr Training Areas. Best wishes and happy floating!
Who had a Jeep that could swim across streams.. The Germans. It almost reminds me of those Three Stooges movies and Childrens cartoons where they would throw a electric fan out the back of some connivance and motor across lakes and seas. Happy to see so many of these noble veterans in one place actually in action still. And the spirited owners and operators demonstrating for the faint of heart their practicality for their purpose.
twotailedavenger We actually had 2, the GMC DUKW, based on the 2 1/2 ton CCKW and the Ford GPA, based on Ford built Jeeps. Although the GPA wasn't all that great and wasn't widely used.
I'm stunned I've never looked at this one before. WOW!! I could sell my Split bus and buy one tomorrow. Horribly impractical but who CARES!! Totally cool. I just love the way they sit so low in the water, the pics of the formation of them heading down stream.....just gold!! Like em or hate em WW2 German vehicles are the bomb.
@SchwimmerDave Indeed, you are right!! I only read the first part of the wiki site: Apparently 155 was merely the total 1941 pre production of type 128
So many at one location, I suppose after the war such vehicles were available to send back to the UK ? and of course as my father told me ( a USA WWII VET ) stuff was all over the place. GO ARMY
lol, wouldn't mind getting one myself it's looks awsome, wouldn't mind driving one of them in the one of the great lakes over here. Could either the uploader or another youtuber tell me the price for a Schwimmwagen, just wondering.
You've got to hand it to Hitler's Germany, the egineering levels were very high. Little wonder that was the solid foundation of the awesome engineering we find on Porsche,Mercedes,BMW,Audi and Volkswagen.
Das Problem könnte nicht nur die Strömung sein, sondern auch die Binnenschiffe, die eine große Gefahr bilden könnten und relativ hohe Wellen erziehen. Der SW ist sehr klein...
@sonnylatchstring That is not true at all. In fact MORE THAN 14,000 were actually made during the war. Today no one know how many there are, but at least several hundreds are still "alive". Luckily so!
Very early second would war German small off road vehicle, Today we can see most of them at Volkswagen Museum and Porsche Museum and Porsche home town Gmund museum, one set 4 unit of Prosche Prototype 1941 Typ 877,1942 Typ 166,1943 VW82e,1943 VW82 only can see at S and P 4x4 LTD in Hong Kong China it is a 4 wheel drive Co in China since 1987,The owner is a historic vehicle collector, he got many nice collection, Inc this 4 war time German army vehicle. His Prosche 166 prototype is one of the best 3 original condition in the world. www.tankmodel.com/co-collection.htm
after all these years since WW2, and now, they still work!
glorious simplicity in design...I'm surprised nobody makes them now...
They are to cool this is why nowone makes them

The one dude with with the button to raise and lower the prop really outshined the rest of these unsophisticated blokes with their metal rod.
Probably the rest had the feature broken. I mean it is old.
Others chose to keep original design. It's all so cool
Well good to see all the Schwimmwagen in action
.
Wow... Every car should be like this........
Iunno about you, but just saying the word "schwimmwagen" makes me smile - it's the most adorable name for a car ever.
I agree with you!
I think the same way.
I love the crazy side of german engineering.
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing this post.
Thats the coolest toy ever
I know right
I'd love to have one of those, that way I would have a car/boat. Come in handy when it floods
VW should make these again.
It should be a tribute project. None of these $40K cars float!

HUNG BULLDADDY Hey, the Americans had one, too. It was just bigger.

Quiero uno para salir a pescar por el Rio de la Plata
es lo mejor que han podido inventar los alemanes.

I have a Jeep Wrangler, but this is awesome !!!
lol, wouldn't mind getting one myself it's looks awsome, wouldn't mind driving one of them in the one of the great lakes over here.

Hey, it floats. Or rather, it swims.

The shot of you guys going up the river together imagine fishing looking up and see you guys coming "THE GERMANS ARE COMING".
@sonnylatchstring That is not true at all. In fact MORE THAN 14,000 were actually made during the war. Today no one know how many there are, but at least several hundreds are still "alive". Luckily so!
Around 400 are known to exist today.
What type of fuel does it take?
Awesome!

Is it possibile to buy somewhere such car?
How many of them were produced ? Many survivors? Weird for german engineering that the propeller must be manually dropped.
I really want to own a schwimmenwagen but I just can't find one
They are also extremely expensive
se consiguen los planos tecnicos de esto?
It seems like an entrepreneur could make a ton of money recreating this
Va passa hoje com o carro em um possa de água?
Interesante vehículo anfibios
Greenpeacе sie wo ??? Надеюсь это не в Германии, а где то в африке? )))

wow amazing
I wonder what the schwimmwagen does
Does the Shwimmwagen have heaters like the beetle does?
no. Having Beetle type heating wouldn't help. There are no side curtains for when the top is up.
This is a schwimmwagen. It's wagen that schwimms.
Falih Mulyana it Schwimms wagen
Whats the price 4 one?
? Why do they need a mirror ? Who or what is going to pass them .
This Old Salt loves this! Average top speed on land/water?
80/10 Km max speed .
80km/h, 4 knots.
Cool
horsepower rating is still probably too big for my local lakes. Haha
Top speed is 4 knots.
What about the waves?
Great!
which torque has schwimmwagen?
will it go in water
Ueberholen ohne bliker? P.S. super cool
You could drive these in Gran Turismo 5. :)
Why VW dont make more of these cars , I will buy one...!!!!!!!
Comeback baby... Mine oh mine!
Why do only the child wear a life jacket? Do you think it cannot sink??
+vonKragh Very good question indeed!
+vonKragh they can probably swim.
vonKragh because it's required by law that children wear lifevests. adults don't have to
Ohne Musik wäre das besser.
Top 👍

Bad hit on the SW's ass
"Seaways" before it was cool.
