What's cool is that a lot of the younger Pirates players, if they came up through the Pirates system, played with Maggi on their way up. Those guys are well aware of how hard Maggi worked to get to this point.
Spot on man. Really happy for him
8K for x12 years is $96,000….talk about a dedication
You mean how hard he worked to pinch hit for people while his team is up 7 runs in the last innings?
I dont think that’s quite what he’d been working toward.
lol and some of them probably played and are retired by now.
@@Dudeman9339Of course that’s not what he was or is working towards. They’re not going to start you in cleanup in your debut game. You work hard and take what you can get
He is a big leaguer forever, indeed.
Dude’s a bum
I almost audibly choked up when he said that.
He's Got Recruited
Every kids dream.
What a class act from the Pirates fans. Bravo!
Nice to see the Pirates opening the season strong their fans and players deserve it.
The 73 fans in attendance were very respectful
💯 class
"I was in the show for 21 days once - the 21 greatest days of my life."
you don't carry your bag in the show
He was amped up in the box. No way he wasn't swinging for the gate first pitch. Great stuff.
The one thing I think the moments hurt him in terms of he had to to be amped to the max the way he swung but we get another go he can forever be a starter
Was so close to being a homer on his first hit in the big leagues. That would have been special
If he hit that first pitch out… would’ve been bananas
B A N A N A S
Drew Maggi worked his way up to the Major leagues. He never gave up and never quit. For all eternity his will be known as a major leaguer. He deserved it.
Ain't gonna lie, I teared up when I saw his folks watching him. That was BEAUTIFUL moment seeing this guy achieve his dream.
Same
My son and I found ourselves unknowingly sitting right by his parents for his first AB. When they interviewed him on the field after the game, we basically got to share that once in a lifetime moment with them. It was amazing to see their reactions, shake his dad’s hand, and just be there, really. I could only try to imagine how they felt after 13 years of waiting and disappointments, to then see their son finally have his moment with an entire ball park cheering his name.
@Chris Koren that is so cool! I wld imagine that wld be moment of a lifetime not only for the player, but for his mom and dad
same instantly, and i dont do that
Yeah if I seen my son out there still chasing his dream and finally reaching out after so long. I would tear up for sure. Hope this guy gets another chance.
Don’t follow the Pirates never heard of him till today but to see the love and support of his family and the fans on him achieving his dream was something special.
13 years in the minors… finally called up to the big show
It's moments like these that make you love baseball.
This guy is proof that you can’t ever stop chasing your dreams.
I'm sure he's been imaggining that moment for the whole 13 years. The imagge will stay with him forever. Maggical.
I was about to correct your horrible spelling and then...
Gg
Just think of all those games the parents went to, driving to all those youth, travel and high school practices. How many swings on a tee, how many ground balls his dad hit to him. How many times mom cheered him on. How many balls dad has tossed to him as a kid, how much sacrifice the family has made to help him get to a point to see 3 pitches in the MLB. I can only imagine - it's gotta be all worth it. Nobody can ever take it away - you're a big leaguer now Drew! And congrats Mom and Dad...
Damn, man. Got me all misty-eyed here. VERY CLASSY, PITTSBURGH! Well done!
- Ed on the Ridge
Imagine going from making 40k at the very best usually way less for years and years in the minors to then finally getting called up to making $4200/day. So in 10 days he’ll make his yearly minor league yearly salary. Not to mention your lifelong dream finally coming true whilst so many others would’ve given up at this point. Huge props to this guy and I hope to god he gets few years in the show so he can set his family up for life!
Well done Pittsburg fans. Well done. Love this game.
Classy by the fans. Cool moment
Remember him for how he got there, Not what came of it. God bless brother
Awesome debut!!
I can't even imagine the emotion... he is now forever a Major League player 🙌
at least the ump didn't give him a violation for the ovation at the beginning.
The ump actually stepped out so that he could receive that ovation. Gotta give the ump credit for being a good human being.
@@MIKERUPTIONhonestly, the umpire deserves a pay raise for that.
I'm not cryin....you are😢😢😢
Man, if I'm down 7 in the 8th and this guy gets up, I'm floating him something juicy over the plate just for the story.
The second pitch was a 95er right down the middle.
Yeah he gave the third strike to him right down the middle he tried to give it to him he just missed it
As a pirates fan, that was pretty cool to see.
What a classic and touching moment for Maggi
Could you imagine how loud even that sparse crowd would have been if he hit that first pitch out? What a moment that would have been.
That's beautiful to see ❤
It's beatefull ocacion and memory I'm like that moment congeatulation 👏👏👏
Gotta love baseball, going to have to look for a Drew Maggi rookie card, Congrats this was beautiful to see.
Some people just don’t have the natural abilities to be a professional ball player. But once in a while, a player will work there butts of and pay their dies to make it to the show. These players are the ones that bring me back to baseball and love the whole history of the game.
Classy all around. When sports bring out the good in everyone.
People, whatever it is you do, whatever your dream, Keep Grinding. You never know where it can lead you.
Great moment. I know he's might not ever get another AB in big leagues, but I'm sure it feels good.
He's starting today
For the rest of his life he can say, "I'm a former major league baseball player."
He’s starting believe me I was stunned I’m praying he gets a hit
@@strawberry97ish If he gets a hit the crowd will erupt.
@@Breakbeats92.5He got to wear his own MLB jersey while the closest I got was wearing someone else’s. Doesn’t get better than that.
+1 New Pirate fan. This moment speaks to the heart of the organization.
How can you not love this game?
How can you not love Baseball
The most wholesome moment of the year
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to this young man...WAY TO GO....!!!
Great support pirates fans!!!!
Another reason why BASEBALL ⚾ is THE BEST Sport in the World 🌎🌍‼️
he is big leaguer, forever
Damn, just a split second ahead of that first one, man. What a guy. What a moment. I love baseball.
Long wait to get there. It's got to be rewarding. It takes lots of dedication to get there.
That first swing, I thought it was gone. He crushed that thing. I feel like that foul was actually better than getting a hit, honestly. He got to experience a crowd go absolutely crazy for a couple seconds.
Im friends with his soon to be sister in law. Great family. I hope he has an incredible year and gets an extension.
It’s never too late. Follow your dreams.
what a moment
I was on the edge of my seat for his whole at bat. You love to see it
Wow he's got to be early 30s in his MLB debut congrats 👏
Absolutely beautiful. Idk if most people watching this video are even fully aware just how much passion & determination it took for him to persist in the minor leagues for 13 years... Wow, smh in amazement†
I wonder what something like this just one at bat truly feels like this dude prob never thought he would
Moments like these are a reason why I love baseball so much..just wish more did..
Best suits this kind of moment is baseball. So I love baseball.
Such a cool moment. Props to the pitcher....he gave him fastballs and more than 1 opportunity. Classy move. Baseball stuff. Love it.
Love these moments that are bigger than the game itself. It pains me to watch julio and the Dodgers get knocked around like that but this at bat means more than a win or loss 👏 👏 👏 👏
WOW! Tip of the cap to the Pirates. Class still exist and that's how you do it.
Had this man been given the opportunity in the majors 10 years ago, who knows what would have happened
This is what baseball should be about! Good stuff Pirates!
my best wishes to this guy!!
hope his stay in the majors for the next 3 or 4 yrs, or more...🙏
it is a story of guts and perseverance!!👊
Respect ✊🏿
That is a Class Act.
im a cards fan but i gre up in western pa. Pitt truly is a great city
Moonlight Graham. You gotta love baseball
Perseverance and following the dream. Fantastic.
That was always my dream . Congratulations
Sooo many players can fall through the cracks, 13 long years!!! WOW, what a terrific scene!! And well done Pittsburgh fans!!
Props to him for sticking to it
Living the dream
What an amazing moment.
That is awesome. I just wished the Maple Leafs goalie Jett Alexander got the same reaction. Debuts are awesome to watch.
What a debut 😢😢😢.
My father did 11 seasons...1 Major, 10 Minor...Your have too really appreciate this guy for staying motivated year after year...
That's how you accomplish stuff.
You never give up! 😎
Congrats to Maggi for making it to the MLB, hope he has a great and successful career! 🙂
This is awesome
The dream never dies… 13 years in the Minors and finally at the pinnacle. Forget that he may never be an All-Star, the most remarkable thing is spending 13 years and never quitting until he made it… 🫡
That pitch clock blows 🐓
He’s a big leaguer, forever.
Al igual que Meneses este joven Maggi es un ejemplo de Perseverancia y Positivismo 👍🙏👏👏💖⚾💪🎇! Congratulation to him!
" ENDEAVOR TO PERSEVERE". Lone Waddy,The Outlaw Josey Wales.
He was swinging for the fences on that first pitch!!!
Good for him. An MLB at-bat is a huge accomplishment!!!
I love this game.
Maybe Dennis Quaid can play him in a Disney movie.
This needs to be a movie if the pirates make a run.. I remember a few weeks ago watching the white sox play in Pittsburgh and the pirates showed me something to think they might be a dark horse this year
I❤ Minor League ⚾🏟️! Support from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Well played Pittsburgh, well played. 🔥❤️
Life is a field of dreams!
👏👏👏👏 From a thirteen year minor league player to a major league level. How do ya like that, Pirates fans?!
Hope he gets to play in MLB more.
LFG Maggi!
Moonlight Graham!
That was the first thing i thought of too lol
Similar story with Bill Taylor a's 13yrs minors got a call up early 2000s pitching 2-3 seasons as a late closer. Or the teacher from Texas who was a prospect pitcher than injuries ended career early than Hs baseball coach then found he had high velocity after 10 yrs then got a callup to TB Ray's and a Disney movie "the rookie " was made about him
Drew Daddy,. congrats man⚾
Very cool!
Take it all in. That’s dope. Make a movie. ✌️. Good Journey -L7
WOWWWWWW...what a story! I was the best football kicker in Wisconsin in the late 80s. I had scholarship verbal agreement with UWM for the next season to play for the Badgers. 2 weeks after winning state championship, my dad got into a car accident while on vacation in Michigan. I became instant homeless, I dropped out of school to be with him for a month before he passed away. I regretted every day about what could have been. I'm 52 now.
I feel like my sporting career was cut short by a broken home. Always wondered how things could have been if I had a stable upbringing at critical moments in my childhood
One of the coolest debut Ive ever seen
Drew Maggi is a national treasure and the definition of a GAMER. 🫡 #Respect
Shades of Crash Davis. Very cool.
Great job 👏🏻 don’t give up!
One of the many reasons baseball is the best sport in the world. If your a REAL fan of the game of baseball you understand.
