  • United Nations, New York, March 2012 - This short video describes the work of interpreters at the United Nations and the European Parliament, highlighting common features of multilingualism, while shedding light on the challenge facing both organizations - that of a shortage of qualified and skilled interpreters. The movie was shot in 2011, when Mr. Miguel Angel Martinez Martinez, Vice President of the European Union Parliament, visited United Nations Headquarters in New York. Mr. Martinez was received by the Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management, Mr. Shaaban M. Shaaban. During the visit, Mr. Martinez met briefly with Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, President of the 66th session of the General Assembly, and was given a tour of the General Assembly hall and the Department's Interpretation Service.

I wonder how good the top spies of Russia and the US are compared to these world-class interpretors. Add some of these incredibly sophisticated rogue translators who can speak either of their languages under any condition.

Good, and would have been awesome if it weren't for the music. Pleeeeeeeeeease, eliminate the musical background. it spoils the settings. i would like to listen to the natural voices of the people and surroundings. Your are uploading this for us to watch, right? Then please listen to us! Thanks!

Aws al-Jashami yeap, that's what I thought. And also when they show somebody talking some other language (o.g. spanish or french) and they don't arrange the sound volume properly: you hear a speaker talking, not enough so you can understand him/her, but still too much because it interfers with the translation's thread
