On March 2nd I had time so I went down to the University of Texas at Austin campus to film the monthly test of their siren system. Originally installed in 2007, the system consisted of only Federal Signal DSA4-3's until around 2018. The Printing Building on the east side of campus was torn down and the DSAs on it were removed. This new siren was put up in their place.
I got there about 20 minutes before the test, and just a minute or so after 11:50, they fired up! You can hear the DSAs across the interstate start a second or two before this siren. Sometime next winter I am going to go back to the campus and get an ambiance when the echoes are great.
Signals:
- 2 Cycles Coded Pulse
- Voice
- 5 Cycles Fast Wail

I had I siren that sounded just like that in my old neighborhood, itâs strangely nostalgic hearing the sound again.
Cool, wish I had more sirens in my city.
This is the slowest fast wail tone ever. Pretty ironic if you ask me.
Wish Round Rock had sirens, would have helped a shit ton during the tornado, all we got were text notifications and the notifications were all 10 mins late...
NOOO THE SIMPLEX 4100ES CODE 3 LOL
Lol
That is true though
Not bad, I like that
0:32 the siren starts / Fast Wail
I used to live near Austin and never knew they had sirens
Only the University of Texas campuses and Wildflower Center, Austin State Hospital, and St. Stephens Episcopal School have them within the Austin City Limits.
I always see these sirens and always wondered what they sounded like
i think i heard one of the DSA4-3s test when i was like 3
I have a request so record the whelen vortex in Lewisville Texas up north
nice one

Modulator 5020B Voice & Fast Wail Test
Each dusk must be a different frequency
Fast wail
I tried to catch their siren test, but I was disappointed because they called back and said it wouldn't be tested due to OVERCAST? remind you. Im from NC. It's a bit of a drive. I was lucky to even be down in Texas.
Oh that sucks. UT is picky about when they test, and yes, they refuse to test in overcast weather. It's so dumb.
I have a inactive modulator near my house. It's the same like this one.
Cool. What system is it a part of?
@@TheCentralTexasRailfan Most likely a tornado siren.
When did Amarillo Texas go to dual tone
Don't think they have many dual tone sirens actually, or at least they don't anymore.
I'm looking for someone who can record a siren in Ennis, TX at the intersection on National Drive & Sterlite Drive.
I would love to film the old sirens in Ennis sometime if I ever get up that way on test day.
@@TheCentralTexasRailfan They test the sirens every Wednesday at noon in Ennis, TX.
Looks like there cryingđą
How exactly? Would love to know.
Is this the one on Mainer and comel?
Yes this one is at Manor and Comal.
@@TheCentralTexasRailfan I saw that exact same one on the 6th
Cool
I hate how new flat modulators look I love the "3d" modulators. Our whole city only has modulators and only one is not a "B" model.
I believe the "B" in the model specifies that it's mount is designed for a metal/wood pole. A "C" is a concrete pole. Not certain though. The "II" in the title indicates that it is a second-generation model with the smaller disc things.

Sounds Like The Hawaii Siren
Hawaii uses lots of these Modulator sirens.
They also use ASC I-forces that look like Modulators
That thing is just as annoying as leadership in Austin
