***** getting into modeling is something i would never recommend unless you can fully give your life too it. I honestly don't recommend being a model. So i would agree with your mom not to let you. I am in the business and can honestly say it is not easy. traveling all the time for shoots constantly working on your body to get it to that 'perfect state' . I am on the short time so it took a ton of no before i was finally accepted into an agency. I spent hours making sure the agencies i tried were not phoney because I had been in a fake mother agency before and wasted time and money. if your mom says no,she means it for the best. I know it might be hard to understand why but trust me you will thank her later :)
That's weird though, because for the open calls you have to be at least 5'9" :(. I'm 5'5" and it sucks knowing that I'm a couple of inches away from my dream.

I'm an aspiring actress. I've been on hundreds of castings and I've booked a good amount. The acting industry is very similar to modeling, and from reading the comments I know some people are giving constructive criticism to Hailey, but in the end she gave a lot valuable and informative tips. OMG THANK YOU SO KUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! A modeling company at the mall offered me a deal for 150 to come and do a photo shoot but my mom said no and I was so mad but now that I know it's a scam I'm so glad I didn't.
On every model video I've seen girls saying they can't model at 5 ft...or course you can! just not runway..but that's okay! and you don't NEED to sign up with an agency. I'm starting up and doing it all on my own. It's easier to network now that we have the Internet. Look for a modeling Facebook group in your city. Set up trade shoots to build your portfolio. People will even post paid shoots and you send in your pics or a link to your portfolio. The modeling world is already changing you guys, don't let how how you were born get in the way of your dreams IF I succeed and become big or at least known I'll think about making videos and being a motivation for short models. I'm not being cocky or saying it will for sure happen, but be the change you want to see in the world. :) I'm already getting shoots set up and it's awesome. :)

First thing is being conventionally beautiful doesn't mean anything, in fact all models I work with or have seen worked with in large publications often look very weird or awkward in person. Especially these days, as fashion is becoming more abstract. Being really wayward and unique looking will get you work very, very fast, but will also limit you in other areas (i.e. female with shaved head/eyebrows will get tonnes of editorial work, but may be limited commercially or for ads). All depends on your area. I work in fashion editorials for magazines, so I work with people who look less normal.
Okay guys so a lot of you who are not in modelling don't understand some of the requirements and are giving many false hope. Most of what hailey said is true but its very rare to be short and get into modelling. Such as 5'7, 5'8. If you want to be in high class modelling you have to at least be 5'9- 5'10. And extremely skinny. There are many girls this height and thin which makes it very competitive if you want to be successful. Certain face requirements and other things are needed. when they hire girls to walk runway and stuff for Dior for example, they want them all to be the same height which is most of the time really tall. Modelling careers normally only last you until your 25 because they like more youthful looking girls. Im in modelling and i have all the requirements and its still difficult and not meant for everyone. its a lot of work. Not everyone can just walk in and get signed but hailey is tall and thin so it made sense that she could. Im not trying to be rude at all I'm just trying to explain.

I'm 5'4 now so there's no way I could be a model, but I was a model when I was 5/6 y/o for different companies mainly toys-R-us (lmaooo) and parent magazine. I also got the call for Gap kids but my phone was broken and we missed it. :,( I took acting classes during the time and the teacher was also my manager. I was also casted for an episode of Sesame Street which I stupidly (I was a little kid) turned away from after already filming some scenes because the other kid on the show and I still regret it! Now I'm shy and achieve nothing so I think I peaked when I was 6 years old....
Hey girls don't worry about being short I'm only 5 ft 1 in and even tho I'm still I a teen and it's not my complete height yet I will only grow a few more inches but I still got signed! So no matter how short you are there is still hope, they might put you in 7 inch heels but inn pics when your not standing next to someone else it's not that easy to tell how tall or short someone is!
It depends on the type of modeling. Kim K is kinda seen as a model but she's short, though you will never see her being a runway because most agency and designers only go for 5'10 and over. For commercial and shoots being short might not matter but for runways by almost all designers in mid to high fashion 5'10.

ADVICE TO ALL ASPIRING MODELS, BASED ON MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. 1. I made the mistake of paying for and Image Studio program, before having the ability to be represented by the agency. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID. Alot of smaller agencies offer this, knowing many girls or guys, are unaware of the modeling industry. NEVER PAY. Most smaller agencies convince you this is how it works, IT DOES NOT. 2. If you are really interested in modeling, sign with a modeling agency not a talent agency. Most talent agencies are skeptical and will not advance your career in the direction you want to go. 3. Figure out your market. Are you more e-comm, high-fashion, etc? If you know your potential, try to focus on that market. 4. NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF, apply to all legitimate agencies. You are the look for some legitimate agency out there. Finally, stay healthy and blessed.

I'm 5'4 now so there's no way I could be a model, but I was a model when I was 5/6 y/o for different companies mainly toys-R-us (lmaooo) and parent magazine. I also got the call for Gap kids but my phone was broken and we missed it. :,( I took acting classes during the time and the teacher was also my manager. I was also casted for an episode of Sesame Street which I stupidly (I was a little kid) turned away from after already filming some scenes because the other kid on the show and I still regret it! Now I'm shy and achieve nothing so I think I peaked when I was 6 years old....

Hey girls don't worry about being short I'm only 5 ft 1 in and even tho I'm still I a teen and it's not my complete height yet I will only grow a few more inches but I still got signed! So no matter how short you are there is still hope, they might put you in 7 inch heels but inn pics when your not standing next to someone else it's not that easy to tell how tall or short someone is!
It depends on the type of modeling. Kim K is kinda seen as a model but she's short, though you will never see her being a runway because most agency and designers only go for 5'10 and over. For commercial and shoots being short might not matter but for runways by almost all designers in mid to high fashion 5'10.
I live in Chicago and I really want to get into modeling and acting but I'm only 5'2..

Is it hard to get accepted into and agency? i am not even sure if that is worded right. I also live in Chicago so was it hard to be accepted into yours?
ADVICE TO ALL ASPIRING MODELS, BASED ON MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. 1. I made the mistake of paying for and Image Studio program, before having the ability to be represented by the agency. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID. Alot of smaller agencies offer this, knowing many girls or guys, are unaware of the modeling industry. NEVER PAY. Most smaller agencies convince you this is how it works, IT DOES NOT. 2. If you are really interested in modeling, sign with a modeling agency not a talent agency. Most talent agencies are skeptical and will not advance your career in the direction you want to go. 3. Figure out your market. Are you more e-comm, high-fashion, etc? If you know your potential, try to focus on that market. 4. NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF, apply to all legitimate agencies. You are the look for some legitimate agency out there. Finally, stay healthy and blessed.
