Well now. I didn’t see it coming my friend, but I’m so honored to be the tiniest part of your creative journey. Your generosity inspired me to stretch my creative wings further and I fixed your brakes as only a small token of my sincerest appreciation. And don’t worry…. My family fully forgave me long ago for missing that family day. ❤ so glad the brakes still work! 😂
Alan, your act of generosity was truly amazing. Service to others is the highest form of self-expression. Thank you for being a great example.
You are a wonderful human
your internal karma meter is probably on full right now, well done. as an owner of various prehistoric 4x4's including old land rovers and land cruisers (including a couple built by J Ward) this story seems so familiar. thank you.
Very cool to help out. Best wishes on your motorcycle business!
Good man Alan.
The paper animation of the brake calipers was beautiful and captivating. Amazing work as always.
So that’s what brake pads are supposed to like like 👍
About to say that
incredible actually. I would not fully understand if not for the illustration and animation...nice job!
A tiny little detail easily missed but beautifully done. Based on his other videos that probably took him 16 hours. 😂
A 997 and an F40. How magical.
So happy I was right for once!! Happy to help
You saved our trip! Thank you!!
I say it all the time, but Van is way too underrated. His honesty comes through in every video. He only partners with brands that mean something to him. He can turn a simple tale into a thought provoking journey. He is the ultimate story teller.
I don't understand how world's collide. Huge fan of you Van, been a long time Land Cruiser fan, Jonathan Ward might be as close to an idol that I have ever had. Then also last week I was on a family vacation driving from Arizona to Minnesota and my poor man's Land Cruiser (a Sequoia) broke down in La Junta Colorado. I got lucky as anybody could with my 5 small children and a patient wife. I rolled into town just before the parts store closed, they had the right parts first try. Then I found a fantastic mechanic - shout out to Mark Sarlo at Wallace Oil who snuck us in and helped get us back on the road in about two hours. Some of the parallels are amazing. This video hit the spot man. Someday I'll get my Land Cruiser and create these stories myself. Long live the spirited man!
Whoever uses the spirit that is in him creatively is an artist. To make living itself an art, that is the goal. ~ Henry Miller
I wish Allan was my local mechanic. What a top guy, and he's buys lunch!
Allan kudos to you from New Zealand, you are a true friend
I have an old BMW r75/5 and have bought a lot of parts from Revival. This makes me like and respect them even more.
At first, I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical. "Oh great, another vintage truck video," I thought to myself. But, being a loyal fan of your content, I decided to give it a chance anyway. And boy, am I glad I did! Once again, you've managed to take something seemingly mundane and turn it into a true work of art. Your storytelling skills are nothing short of inspiring. I'm sorry for doubting you, and please don't let my initial judgment stop you from creating as many truck videos as your heart desires. I'll be eagerly waiting for the next one!
Woah! This is insane! I used to live and work out of Bolm Studios, immediately next to Revival Cycles. So cool to see you out in that part of town, it's a special one
0:36 General purpose shoe by Nike and Tom Sachs. A spirited shoe for a spirited man.
I came to ask if those were them haha 😂
The Creative Act is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
This is why CZcams exists, this is why I get out of bed in the freezing cold to walk 10kms every morning. This is the man I strive to be! The generous man, The skilled craftsman, The storyteller! I'm not referring to just one man here, this video focuses the soul on who we should all strive to be. It entertains, it stirs desire in the heart, It enlightens the mind. I see the road untraveled, and you may very well have inspired me to take the first step on a new journey! Thankyou!
The Spirited Man has a guide from the spirited world looking after him and his family. This is the definition of being blessed. Always pay attention to your gut instinct, it can save your life. I had this uncomfortable feeling riding my 1200CC motorcycle a few years back. I bought new tires because my gut was telling me there’s something wrong with the way the bike was handling. Once the new tires were put on that uncomfortably feeling went away…..
You have a gift, you're a talented storyteller. I don't have a fancy car, I don't live in the US, I don't fix things like you do but somehow I connect with your tales.
"Attuned choice by attuned choice, your entire life is a form of self-expression." Words for any Spirited Person to live by. Thanks Rick Rubin!
Amazing! Finding inspiration in the generosity of others is such an admirable thing. The attitude of "I have to be a more generous person" is so sincerely expressed, and something we should all be trying for. I can't wait for the whole world to see this.
I've been around for almost 5 decades and have learned that generous people are both rare and inspirational.
I have also come to this realization......Generosity can only be found by eliminating all instinctual fear. What I mean by that is that we, as humans have a built in survival mechanism which is meant to hunt, collect and keep things, not give things away. Our commercial society also tells us we need to possess items. Only wise and pure generous people develop the ability to give away possessions and their time to those in need.
My parents were and are "takers", and it's been a struggle to shake that inheritance. I try really hard to let go and give first, be generous, but it's hard when it doesn't come to my naturally. Usually I am generous to someone only AFTER they have been generous first. Striving to swing that the other way, but it's a struggle.
This is not a video, this is a living breathing emotion
Quintessential Van Neistat content, thanks for sharing man
Bro, you definitely transmit feeling, big time! Im a Barber, I hear it all the time and now I know what my clients are saying. Thanks for putting it so I now get it. Snap! Thanks Van.
2 millimeters that made 9 minutes of self expression that really isnt about oneself. Thank you Van.
I am blessed to have a friend like Alan too. Great video Van!
Just taking a lunch break from the grind, and up comes a notification from my favorite content on CZcams! Thanks Van for all that you do!
It's good to be worthy of friends.
to be worthy of friends. Great statement.
Wow! One of your best videos to date! Always inspired by your art.
What's good for one is good for all. If self-expression is to be shared, you Van, have imparted on us the feeling of kind kinship, of helpful hands, and reoriented our hearts and hands towards service. And all pumped through the story arc of brake lines and short film. Continue to be inspired and grateful for your art.
Beautifully written and thoughtfully constructed - Once again.
My first car was a 96 Jeep Cherokee that I decked out and maintained with my dad and his friend. Countless weekends were spent troubleshooting seemingly minuscule problems, back and forth from the shop back to home.
As exhausting and frustrating as it was in the moment, I somehow look back on those times so fondly and with the deepest appreciation for the people who donated their time and resources for the sole purpose of helping me love a drivable car. Acts like those are as intimate as cooking a meal for someone else or driving a friend to the airport.
You captured those moments so well, Van
An XJ is never fully fixed, but that is part of the fun! :)
Stewarding a 93 with the same coveted front grill logo. Always something. A labor of love
That guy that helped you out was legit!
It's always exciting to see a new video uploaded
My old home town. Glad someone helped out.
Keep it up Van, always love any content you produce
The Creative Act 🔥 woow just saw it at your video and started listening this morning and 🤯 thanks!! 👊🏼
Mate I’m happy i find you on youtube, you become my inspiration really ❤!!!
Thoughtful and inspiring. Thank you.
I love that you have the music maker’s book! I’ve been vegging out on every podcast on CZcams I can find while he’s promoting the book. It’s phenomenal! I have wanted access to the mind of the music maker for years now. Also, thank you for the transmitting feeling notion!! Underline in pink and blue 💕💙
I've been reading the Rick Rubin book, it's amazing! Definitely one for the collection every artist should own
Props to your friend. That’s cool you show this respect.
I love the thumbnail. The theater you're parked in front of belongs to David Kimble, who did amazing car cutaway illustrations for magazines when I was a kid.
Interesting!
Generosity inspiring generosity. What a beautiful concept.
Jonathan Ward is absolutely the master. Love that guy!
i ABSOLUTELY love this channel, and as a LC fan this video was pretty sweet.
What a great a fine video with a such powerfull message.
so creative Van and some great spirited men to help
that motorcycle shop looked cool
As someone who makes a vlog every week I honestly have no idea how Van can pump out content at this quality so consistently. It's amazing and it really pushes me to get better. Amazing music, amazing message, amazing story. Way to go van!
So many levels of love for this
Hey this is what’s happening to my car, great story and informative af haha
Your Land Cruiser sure has a lot of quirks and features!
Love the video. Love the 60 series Cruiser. And totally crazy to see an F40 hanging out in that shop. Love the Jonathan Ward cameo. :) The sound effects make my brain hurt though LOL.
Oh man, that was so awesome to watch. Spent a bit of time at that same parts store on William Cannon.
6:29 Every brilliant mind is reading Rick's book and I must say, I am on my second reading and it's amazing!
Great content as always. Everytime I ride my J90 LC Prado I remind of these videos... the feeling you transmit and how I can totally relate to it. Oh, vintage truck, I curse you!!!!
Fantastico as always.
This video is fantastic
just beautiful --- all of it --- the art, the mechanics, the generosity, the gratitude ... thank u van
Wow he really did a whole 10 min misterious story on changing brakes on his car
More land cruiser content! Love it!
wow that final clip "how will i ever repay him" moment was really powerful. thank you Van.
An amazing video loving the Tom Sachs Nikes
Inspiring dude! Awesome you got to see a f40 upclose!
I get the video system now, verrryyy good strategy sir!
Best car content in a while, btw
God bless you Van for this message. Hit the right notes. The brake system animation was amazing!
Asking for help is one big capability!! 👍up for that!!
Man, this spoke to me. It’s hard to be mechanical without also being generous, because, to me, it seems easy, if I’m being honest. It also seems hard to be mechanical without also being and artist, of sorts… Also Rick Rubin’s book is one that I may never fully grasp, as simple as it is. I love your channel, and I LOVE this vid. 🙏🏼🤟🏼
Also.. F40!?!?! *swoon*
i’ve got a 98 4runner i’m fixing up. i feel the same way abt it like van does abt his land cruiser
bravo and encore! well done. especially enjoy the lc journey content.
I find what goes around, comes around. You've probably left someone equally thankful in the past, and it's likely that you'll pay it forward in the future.
Inspiring is the word.
Ahh the ol hot hubs in the land cruiser. I've had this happen at the worst time and cause big problems, good catch!
Love to see him get a hold of an old troopcarrier one day. Great video
You're a great man. I appreciate people who don't let setbacks stop them 👍🏼
thank you so much
Thanks a lot man.. I love your content..
Nothing better than seeing my heros and legends come together to solve problems I deal with myself. Long live Land Cruisers. Long live Van, Ward, and Alan!
The trouble with generosity is not generosity itself. It's with the lack of reciprocity. It's when your generosity does not get a proper response when you're in need (especially from the receiver of you generosity). We all have ways to pay our debts / We all have credit on other people. But sometimes our perceived ”credit” is not recognised by others...
spectacular
That's so cool my bday is on 22/03 as well
This along with all your videos is moving.
Being generious can sometimes be lost. I normally try to be.
Interestingly, I paused the video right before the 'what it means to be an artist' section and said to my wife.
"Man, Niestats sound guy is criminally under-rated. Background music is so weird, it's the opposite of what I try to do when I'm playing, which is coming up with a new hook. It's like guiding emotion, subconsciously, saying "no, look, over here" as we transverse the video."
And then you go on to say exactly what I summarized above as soon as i unpaused.
Life be crazy, yo
Van is his own sound guy 🤓
paying it forward hopefully is one of the choices you can make
Apparently Mother Theresa said "Be faithful in small things, because it is in them your strength lies". I guess she was talking about that extra 2mm of brake push rod :)
8:50 that’s exactly how you repay them. By giving your time to those next people that need it😌
That’s crazy, the same thing happened to me 3 days after starting a drive cross the US. Break Calipers were hanging and they were new at the start of the trip.
Absolutely love the storytelling and the message in this one!
Good video
The pleasures of working on a 60 series 😅 I just fixed my brakes last weekend. My master cylinder failed on me as I was going down Bear Mountain. It was a very…interesting experience
You’re also an artist. Great work as always Van. God bless
Cool video
The music reminds me of the transition music on the rugrats I love it
Somehow I went from Sarah Polly singing Courage to here. ♥️ My birthday is also March 22.
And if you have not discovered Daniel Schmachtenberger, you will like him. He and his dad would pack tool and go looking for people to help with their cars.
I like when you say, this man is working on the Sunday. I love working on Sundays. It makes me feel inspired to keep working for the rest of my life. I love your videos man. I love the style. I love the flow. You could make going to the grocery store seem amazing in your videos. Keep producing amazing content.
Van!! You should build your own diy home stereo system⭐️
Wasnt expecting an F40 in this video ❤
That's my local Auto Zone on William Cannon 😍
True beauty.
“He needs a camera… he can Leica again”. You clever, clever man.
