  • The PBSL Group give a helpful overview of PVC Cladding in this video.
    See a mock-up of our 2 styles of cladding we offer and the trims used. The Shiplap Cladding is designed with a slight overlap of each board and the V Joint Cladding is installed with the lines much closer together. Whichever you choose is your personal preference.
    It is important to use the right trims in the right places as they help to keep the cladding structures integrity, style and functionality.
    The types of trims available are starter trims which are used at the bottom and the first cladding boards are fixed to this. At the edges of installation use a universal channel trim and for corners there are specific corner trims. You may need a centre joint trim to join your cladding boards together. On Shiplap systems you can use a Butt joint to stagger the joints. The top edge is usually under a window or soffit you may need a two part trim. Finally, for use above windows, you use a drip trim.
    Learn about the terms used to describe cladding as well as the proper installation process, including the scenarios you may encounter during installation such as fitting around corners and joining trims that are close together.

    Can I fit PVC cladding direct to the wood cladding that's already on, its in good condition, its just a triangle shape above the porch, or do you have to fit it to batons, Thanks

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi, thanks for your question. If the wood is good and solid you can certainly install the PVC Cladding straight on to it. If the area is not loadbearing though and you are not going to be resting a ladder against it you could also consider using our 300mm hollow soffit which has a cladding effect. This is a lighter product that would put less strain on the existing cladding and the original battens that support the existing timber. There aren’t as many trims with this system but if it’s a small area you could just cut the new boards tight to the edges and seal the gap with silicon. But ultimately if your existing cladding base is strong then either system will do the job.

      We would not advise mounting hinges directly on to the PVC Cladding.

    How do you turn a 45 degree external corner with the ship lap cladding?

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 2 lety

      Hi Dawn, thanks for your comment.
      In this instance, as there is not a purpose made trim for a 45 degree angle (such as on a bay window,) we would suggest using a flexi trim such as our WT37 or WT38. Fix one side of the trim with our HV50 superglue but just seal the other side with silicon sealant to ensure that expansion and contraction can take place.

      Thanks for your comment. You could clad this return with small pieces of cladding fitted into a corner trim, or alternatively you could use a fascia cover board fixed vertically. Please do send us an image if you would like some specific advice - send us an email to sales@pbslgroup.co.uk

    If the 100mm V join is vertically mounted with an universal channel at the bottom edge does that channel fill up with water?

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 3 lety

      Hi, thanks for your question. Yes, this would be a problem. Whilst PVC Cladding can be mounted vertically there is no specific starter trim available for this application. On the assumption you are starting at ground level we would suggest a neat cut with no trim would be the best option in this situation.

    I have a damaged board how do i install new one when they are fixed on top of the board how do you fix it off when you can't get at it is there a trick

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi, thanks for your question. This is always a problem with boards with hidden fixings - it is easier to do with timber where the nails are rarely concealed. It does depend upon how well fixed the cladding was in the first place. If you can expose the fixings on the damaged board, it may be possible to use either a punch, a cut nail or a bolt to drive the nails right through the cladding into the batten behind. If you can do that you can then remove the end trims and slide the damaged board out. The new board can then be slid into place in a similar way. Good luck!

    What happens if you end up with only needing half height on top board under a window, will the trim hold it flat?

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 4 lety

      What we would here is use some of the board that you have cut (and don't need) to create packing pieces. This combined with the trim will hold the last board flat.

    Do you have to fix to timber batterns or can you just fix straight to the plywood

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 5 lety

      Hi Rob, we strongly reccommend fixing our PVC cladding to the battens rather than the plywood, as the timber battens give the cladding much more support.

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 4 lety

      The battens also create an air gap that reduces condensation and potential damp issues.

    What about expansion ?

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 4 lety

      You should allow for 10mm of expansion between two 5m boards - the joint covers or trims are designed to allow for this.

    can I use this siding on the rv or motorhome?

    • @PBSLGroup
      @PBSLGroup  Před 5 lety

      We would advise against using our PVC Cladding on RVs or motorhomes due to the fact that the body of the vehicle will flex, causing the cladding to destabilise. Certainly a good question though.
