You need to change out the offset bushings on your radius arms. The ones you have are the ARB offset bushings that give will give you another 2-3 degrees of caster. The stock bushings are what you need to use the caster adjustment plates.
9:52 Did you forget the spacer at the top mount for the caster plates? It looks like the 80 already had an ARB Suspension kit on it. The bushings in the control arms would be centered if stock. 10:12 you can see the bushing is off center by about the same amount you ground off the arm. The extra Caster could have caused your clearance and fitment issues..... The Iron Man kit lowered the front for 5* and the ARB lowered the rear of the axle right onto the tie-rod.
When I changed out all of the suspension bushings last December, I had to remove the rear shocks……….because there wasn’t enough clearance to get the rear control arm (lower) bolts out. The lower shock bolt on the left side, the bolt head snapped right off. 😢😖😫 that was a 2 day drill/thread chase PITA. Some one must have used red loctite on the bolt. Great video and thank you for posting. Very helpful.
Never in my wildest dreams that i would own one of these beast. They are skyrocketing in prices these days that a 4runner would be great. Nonetheless, i have the fascinations of getting into any adventure in the wilderness of the Canadian Rockies and the North Americas. Good news is, i might be owning one very soon and i love the thorough suspension build of your video and looking forward to taking similar or the same setup like this one. This is the reason why I subscribed to your channel. Awesome stuff. Cheers!
Thank you very much. The truck is awesome. I almost sold it recently but changed my mind. It too awesome to let go!!!! Hope you get one, you won’t be disappointed!!!
I just saw the video and saw the yellow offset bushings. No wonder it would not fit. Crazy to go cutting or grinding on the radius arms, going to break there.
Great video. Just a quick question for you. Since Ironman is/was developed initially for the Australian market I hope you have the springs marked driver side & near side the correct way around for your LHD vehicle. Looks like a nice tough 80 you have there!!. I have a 1990 HJ61 Sahara as a tourer.
Very thorough video with lots of good detail on the install. That looks like a nice kid with all the right components. How do you like it against the old man emu kits?
Not sure if someone told you because the parts where made in Australia all drivers side parts go to passenger sift and all passenger side parts go to drivers side
I walked in to a Iron Man shop once to enquire about new springs. The salesman asked what I wanted then told me I couldn’t afford it and all but pushed me out the door. Stuffed if I know what his problem was. I went straight to another company and bought Springs and shocks from them. That was about 13 years ago and I’ll never go back.
@@hobs4868 dude that totally sucks. Here is the US the shop is very responsive to telephone and online orders. Have been been to the store since it’s a couple days drive. Sorry you had that bad experience. It only takes once!
i have a 1991 triple locked with the ome heavy duty coils. one thing i didnt like about this kit was the shocks. the travel of the ome shock is exactly the same as the toyota stock suspension. i ordered custom fox 2.0 to maximize flex in my rig. also i made my own 4 link fully adjustable arms in the rear with johny joints. much better then the stock or polly bushing that tend to rip at extreme flex. i was wondering if the ironman also came with stock length shocks. in my opinion it defeats the reason to have a lift.
Question, was there something wrong with the ome kit? Also, with the ome caster bushings and the plates, how did your alignment work out? I’m always weary about moding the factory components to make things fit. Anyhow, great vid. New sub from me.
Thanks man. The OME kit was super stiff. I wanted a softer ride on the trails. If I did it again I would mess with the caster. I don’t think I have enough lift to make a difference.
I had offset bushings on my lift.. got some delta radius arms now.. wayyyyy better.. how is the Ironman kit so far though? I have OME and want to change it out to either Dobinson's or Ironman was another option..
Does yours lean one way or another? Mine leans toward the right side of the vehicle. Im wondering if its the spacer that was on top of my right rear spring that caused this. I have a RHD one from Japan that has a spare wheel carrier on the back right. My guess is that the spacer on the spring is included from the factory in order to balance the weight of the spare carrier... too bad the spacer is 3000 miles away from where I currently am!
It is a lot smother. The OME kit was crazy stiff in the back end. If I did it again I might look at the Dobinson progressive coils with the Foam Cell Pro shocks. That would be awesome.
@@AdventureBuilt Nice, I did mine and it is nice, but I replaced the original soft suspension on lx450, the springs were almost the same length , but a lot skinnier and less coil material. over all, very happy with the results.
and this is why i don't buy parts for my fj80 from ironman4x4 anymore, most of their parts are designed for right hand drive land cruiser and not for the left hand drive we have in the USA.
Hi Adventure Built, I hate to split hairs but I think you should clarify that you’re working on an FZJ80 and not an FJ80. FJ80s are from 1990-1992. Cheers!

I will definitely look at that part of the kit again. Everything is fitting now but I’ll definitely check on those spacers. Thank you.

Dude, that sounds like a nightmare. You are so welcome and hopefully you won’t ever have to deal with that again!
@@AdventureBuilt it was, thankfully all of the shrieking nightmares have gone away with pills and booze. Happy again until next time.

Fantastic job. Love all the detail in the video including the slight failures and obstacles along the way. Great work!!
I’m positive now I live right behind you. I drive by in the black JKU with the gobi rack. Always admired your rigs. This one is very nice!
This is exactly the same year I'm buying next week. 1994 triple locked. So excited as this has been a bucket list vehicle of mine for years.

Great job well done. Be interesting to hear your mid & long term review of the lift.
The hard bar is adjustable so it can be reused with different height lift kits that Iron Man makes.
Pretty good video thanks, only suggestion would be to have done the brake lines ahead a time and use the kit from Slee offroad.
Man I love those rigs , I don’t even own one , just watched it out of curiosity. Hahah , great vid as always !🤙
Yeah, it's a nice lookin' truck.
Thank you. If you can find a good one pic it up. They are awesome.
the problem with getting the front control arm bolts aligned might have to do with the offset bushing that were already installed in them.
I just saw the video and saw the yellow offset bushings. No wonder it would not fit. Crazy to go cutting or grinding on the radius arms, going to break there.
Rocking the same thing on my new to me 1996! Can't wait to see what you do to yours, trying to keep mine simple. 2" iron man and 33s BFG KO2s
Thx. Im probably gonna go to a 37” MT. 😎

According to the instructions they actually have relabeled everything to the US market. I had to make sure because I thought the same thing.

Thanks for making this video! I will be getting the same lift kit for mine and this will help me out allot! How's the suspension been for you?
Thanks. The suspension has been great. Way better than the OME that I replaced. Much softer and better absorption.

That is awesome. I would assume the Ironman are longer than stick but don’t know the exact lengths of each to be sure.

I don't understand why castor correction plates are necessary if the radius arm mountings are dropped. Great video though.
did adjusting the caster 5* cause any problem with the angle of the driveshaft/differential connection?
No not at all. In hind sight I don’t know if I would do it again. Didn’t seem to help or hurt anything.
I had offset bushings on my lift.. got some delta radius arms now.. wayyyyy better.. how is the Ironman kit so far though? I have OME and want to change it out to either Dobinson's or Ironman was another option..
Kit is great. Dobinson kit is cool with the progressive coils but you can’t argue with the quality and price of the Ironman kit.

Mine does not lean but I think the coils make up the difference as each one is side and corner specific.
How does it the ride? Compared to ome kit you had? Im about to do mine.

Did not like having to notch the radius arm :(
Me neither!

Again with the washers around the wrong way.......
Furst.....
bush league content. get at least the model designation correct. it's an FZJ80 you have not an FJ80. smh
Thanks but you sound a little jealous. I know it’s an FZJ80 but not everyone out there does. FJ80 will technically cover that era as well.
