I agree about investing in artist grade oil paints. I actually find the expensive brands like Old Holland or Michael Harding much easier to use because of their high amount of pigment and how easy they are to dilute to the concistency I desire. They are also more forgiving when you stipple them on the miniatures.

I really loved this video. Thank you! I started my oil journey a little while ago, but wasn't able to continue. This is definitely a good push to get back into it. Looking forward to the next instalments!

I love that you are back to making videos! Out of curiosity, you say that we should use the fat over thin method. There is another oil painting youtuber, Mended Brush Studios, who says that it is possible to paint thick over thin and thin over thick. In the videos it looks like it works, and while I've tried it, I am not good at painting and I can't use my lack of skill as a basis for this technique. Do you think that we should stay away from this until we learn more of the basics? Have you heard of/tried this method?
Thank you again for the video(s), I really do love painting with oils and your videos help to inspire me to do more painting!

Mended Brush utilised the same method as James Wappel. It’s a technique that I don’t really like the finish off so I’ve tended not to use it. Think of this technique as a blend between traditional acrylic layering and Dmitri Fescheko.
So I recommend using this technique more especially if you’re going towards display level painting one day
The thick of thin rules will still apply when using thinner layers to build opacity or to create texture.

Would love to learn more about water mix able oils and miniature painting. I want to get into oils but have extremely young children, water mixable oils seems like the perfect choice. Not much content on it though. Are there big differences between water mixable and classic oils?
