This is a battle against an enemy that cannot be blamed for the danger they pose
They never had the chance to be anything but a destructive force and so this song has to do a lot

What’s so interesting about this song is that they really meant for this to be THE finale of Kirby in a sense. Obviously the series is still going, stronger than ever, but Star Allies was the culmination of everything, almost every past ally came back, and Void Termina is said to be the source of all the mysterious evil artifacts, but also the source or potentially reincarnation of not only every eldritch deity Kirby has slain in the past, but maybe even Kirby himself. This isn’t just another final boss, this is THE final boss, KIRBY’S final boss. And in the end, instead of pushing forward and reducing Void to oblivion, he does what he does best, and gives him hope. Hope of a brighter future, of peaceful nap times and long lasting friendships, one that can start just like his did. And I think that’s what truly makes this song so beautiful.

A large part of why this song sounds so sad and introspective towards the end is hard to explain without spoiling, so don't look if you wanna play Kirby Star Allies, but it makes near perfect sense in retrospect.
The final boss is a being who's nature is decided by the emotions of the beings that summoned it, and the final member of a group of beings known as the Dark Matter, entities who feel nothing but endless sorrow and sadness. It is hinted that they share an origin with Kirby as well with how the final phase looks near identical to Kirby half the time, and like Dark Matter the other half. This being never got to decide for itself what it wanted to be, came into thw world as a destroyer and must be put down before they can cause mass destruction. It is a victory against evil, but an evil unaware of what could have been, what was taken from it before ir was even born.

But it runs even deeper than that: to quote an expert on the matter; void is dark matter, dark matter is kirby, void, is, kirby. A kirby born of hatred and suffering instead of friendship and joy. Kirby himself is a destructive god, who forsook his violent appetite in favor of peace, happiness, and bonds with others(to be fair I don't think kirby even knew where he came from or what he was until he reached this point). Void is the tragedy of a kirby without friends, and only the power of that friendship can truly put him to rest.

I think the last 2 movements are in relation to the final boss' uncanny resemblance to Kirby. It uses attacks from almost every final boss of previous games. You don't hear the last gentle melody in the fight unless it's specifically the third time you fight it. And when you beat the final time, it simply smiles in Kirby's trademark smile instead of pain and anguish from its previous defeats. Not entirely sure what it means but some kind of connection between Void Termina and Kirby is apparent.

This battle coincides with possibly the biggest lore dump in the whole series. The subject of this theme, Void Termina, throughout the battle reveals its own origins, and then alludes to its origins also being Kirbys origins. There is an enigmatic force in the Kirby universe called Void. All we know about it is that it drifts through space and it reacts to emotion. When it comes into contact with extreme emotion it creates an incarnation of itself based around that emotion. For Void Termina that emotion was hatred. All it knows is anger and suffering and torture, all due to some random occurance of the universe. But perhaps if those emotions had been positive instead, that would lead to a being similar to Kirby. Without going into it this revelation adds a lot to previous events in the series and is just really cool

You're pretty much exactly right, sir. Void Termina is a tremendous cosmic threat but, at it's core, essentially just *an abused child who doesn't know better.* When it meets and battles Kirby, it sees his relentless positivity and wants to know more. Wants to become better.

  • @embrefrosste6044

Kirby games are very easy, and canonically, Kirby is quite powerful in battle. But he’s also… just a guy. He likes eating tasty food, taking naps, hanging out with his buddies. He isn’t a pacifist, but he is by no means a warrior or a protector either, seemingly using only just enough force to get over the next hurdle.
It feels like the true emotional arc of Kirby as a character in each game is being sent reeling by the scale and ferocity of the initial disaster, and mentally and emotionally catching up with the reality of the situation from there. He isn’t going to lose, but how long is it going to take him to win? How much worse can it get in the time that it takes Kirby to corner the final boss? So in a way, the progression of this theme from chaos to introspection is also one of Kirby learning about Void Termina’s true nature, as something corrupted that could have emerged as something more kind like himself.

    Void is.. a friend.
A culmination of Dark Matter that.. in all reality, *should* have come to be in a world of friends. Gooey did it. Why couldn't they?
A dream land. A place to feel safe, and to eat yummy cake. That's what Void deserved.
But Hyness... ruined that. He, in a maddened state, tried to force Void, this new Kirby to manifest in a *heinous* form. A reality-crusher, a stardestroyer, someone and something to be feared, a weapon. Another Kirby, but.. lonely. Isolated. Created in an altar through dark rituals to take some hulking, beastly form.
In this fight, this fight against what Void has *become* thanks to Hyness, you peel back those layers. You don't even *know* this character and you fight. However, through this fighting, you wind up doing exactly what Void *needed.*
    You're putting them down.
This child, born incorrectly, brought into an evil world, born into a wrath not to their own has to be undone to be revived again.
You fight the hulking planet-crushing form in the first movement
Then you attack its heart in the second
You fight the God of Destruction's second wind in the third movement, but
    Then you reach the Core.
    The Soul.
    Void.
That's... *why* the last movement is so... impactful and pulled back.
You're not fighting *you,* but... you *are* fighting *a* you.
A you, a Kirby that has been *so* mistreated and *so* unloved that it's become... cruel.
It wears your face, twisting into a schadenfreude grin whenever it _gets_ to attack you, this is a Kirby that is *playing* with you but that simple, unadultered *power* that these freakin' puffballs have causes that cruel playfulness to take form in a *Final Boss fight.*
Green Greens *is* Void's theme. It's also Kirby's theme. But _The Star Conquering Traveler_ to this point has HAD no Green Greens because... that *isn't* what Void is. That *isn't* what Void is *supposed* to be.
In fighting and destroying Void, you're... giving it another chance. Another chance to exist in a happy place, with blue skies and friends and green greens and cake that they *deserve,* that they had so unjustly *torn away* from them when they were just a child.
That's why the fourth movement is so sad. So somber. So held back. That's why it calls upon chiptune instruments and plays Green Greens almost akin to musical *keening.* Void should have been loved and they just...
    ...never... _ever_ were.
_...Hence why you're here to fix that._

Star Conquering Traveler has to be one of my favorite kirby tracks of all time, so glad you’re discovering it!
To me Void Termina, the character associated to this track is a supposed to be a disturbing character. It’s a huge titan you fight among the stars, and for the final part you go inside of it to fight its « true self »
And it’s just a huge weird sphere, that looks disturbingly like Kirby.
That’s what this track means to me, a grimm and tragic dark reflexion of our character if they went on a different path. Kirby is a creature that embodies the simple joys of life, while Void Termina is an ancient god born out of sadness and despair.
That’s why the final movement is to me so tragic, so pulled back. It is a dark reflexion of what could be Kirby, referenced by the Greens Greens reprise and the chiptune sounds

You hit the nail on the head here at so many points. The beginning of this movement does represent the heroes’ determination, and the ending of the movement flips that on it’s head, because the villain is also determined to win, but it doesn’t want to be, which is why it sounds so sad. The villain of this boss fight has actually been a recurring force in most Kirby games, usually being born out of hate and dark energy, unable to change into something more. Here though, this entity is finally finding the will to do that as it fights its counterpart, Kirby, who was born purely out of goodness unlike it was. The somber feeling of the final movement is indicative of all the pain that this entity has caused in past titles, and how it’s all culminated to this moment, the moment when all that darkness can now end and Void can come into a new age as something happy. It was forced to be resigned to darkness for so long, but now it doesn’t have to be. It can become its best and most powerful form, which is Kirby, and that’s why we get the chip tune at the end there, as it’s taking us back to the beginning and representing that our Kirby was once at this point as well, until he was reborn on Dreamland as something pure thanks to the pureness of the land. There’s an element of hope to it in the song, but also that of horror, since this moment has just told us that Kirby could have become this monster if things were any different. Star Allies is a game that was made to celebrate 25 years of Kirby, so having this as the final boss was celebratory of that, as it finally explained to all of us fans the origins of our pink puff, as well as closed the book on an iconic villain that has loomed over the series since the third mainline game in the franchise. Quite possibly the best way they’ve done a final boss yet. I freaking love this game

    A few things to note,
This song has lyrics within the game itself, written by the cult that worships and revived Void Termina within the game. They aren't incredibly deep; they're about what you would expect from a doomsday cult, but it makes sense with in the game due to the fact that one of the main boss themes that plays within this game when fighting this cult is titled "Prayer Song to God", and the Jamba cult's main motif is Void Termina's motif,
The first 3 phases of the fight align with the first 3 phases of the boss, the first fighting it within it's giant form, the 2nd going inside of the boss to fight it's embryo-like shell that contains it's true form, and the 3rd being spit back out and fighting it as it spreads wings.
the 4th movement of the song is interesting, as it has changed multiple times through the different updates of this game.
Star Allies's updates were very intensive, and the content added felt more like DLC, including more story in relation to the final boss. at launch, none of the piano/chiptune second half existed. It was purely the intense guitar, but by the end the song had fully developed its 5th and final movement.
Furthermore, the chiptune rendition of the main Kirby theme, Green Greens, starts 4 minutes and 27 seconds into the final phase, as the first Kirby game, Kirby's Dreamland, released in Japan on April 27th (4:27 for 4/27)
Not to go too in-depth in the Kirby lore, but Void Termina *is* Kirby. Or, a Kirby.
The main villains of most Kirby games is Dark Matter, and both Kirby and Dark Matter seem to come from the same source, Void, which is what Void Termina is made from as well. When encountering negative energy and emotions, Void will become Dark Matter, and when encountering positive emotions, Void will become Kirby (if Meta Knight and a few other Kirby lookalikes are the same species and also made from Void is unclear, but Kirby, Dark Matter, and Void are clearly tied.)
That chiptune rendition is a form of resignation, but not in a threatening manner, Kirby is anything but mean or evil. Instead, its much more positive.
The pause descriptions for Void in these forms (the same source of the lyrics) describes Void as longing to be reborn, not in this form, but a happier one, and that, after defeated by Kirby, its possible for Void to return just like Kirby.
The hardest version of the Void Termina boss fight is merely titled Void for its final phase. It uses attacks from many super-bosses throughout the Kirby franchise and it alternates between Kirby's face and the single cyclops-like eyeball of Dark Matter. When defeated, Void doesn't cry out in pain, but smiles.
As a reward for defeating the game's hardest challenge, you get to play as a seemingly younger Kirby, designed like Kirby's original design back in the days of Kirby's Dreamland and Kirby's Adventure.
The implication is the Kirby was "there" for Void, but in a much kinder connotation, and Void came back as a newly born Kirby.
Kirby lore isn't as dark as the jokes people make about it imply, but its definitely deeper and wilder than you would expect. Fitting for a game who's entire series started with the gameplay tagline of "easier to learn, hard to master"
Anyways, Kirby music is almost always consistently amazing. I hope you listen to more as time goes on.

I think you're absolutely right about the last movement representing a resignation, but I think the reason for that is due to the tragedy of the enemy your fighting. As the title implies, it is a conqueror, an all powerful god meant to destroy, but it didn't choose to become that, it was just born into that role due to the environment around it. That's why there's such an emphasis on birth in the song names. If circumstances had been different, it may have turned out more like Kirby, rather than an evil conqueror.

Personally, I think this whole song represents Kirby himself on a deeper level, of course, that's primarily in theory. Kirby is, ironically, one of the more mysterious characters, this boss representing something that is very heavily implied to be where he originates from. That being Kirby (and others of his species like Meta Knight and Galacta Knight) more often than not are composed largely of positive energy. Kirby is this big ball of positivity, we know that much, but how much of that is sincere or out of spite? It's hard to really tell, some people see Kirby as a character veiled in purity and innocence, which yes, that's very often how he appears and acts, yet he always comes face to face with these frankly horrible villains who might be that way out of fates one could even consider WORSE than death. You can always pose this question if Kirby is even able to comprehend what dire circumstances plague his world. Technologically, Magically, doesn't matter, both are WRITHED with negative energies, mainly those wielding these things. Is Kirby REALLY oblivious? Or does he know how dangerous and cruel his own world can be, but continues to be as positive as he is in spite of it all?
I personally lean on the latter for a good many reasons, namely that his own dark reflection in Shadow Kirby is similarly unquestionably good, but far more cowering. Shadow Kirby knows this danger, and while he does work against it, he does so in far less direct ways. Kirby (and many of the heroes in these stories) continue to be positive in spite of the negativity of the world they live in, and those they come in contact with that do see their way to the other side often come out of these tragedies better for it.
It's why people who adore Kirby games often love playing the side modes. While often not canon, they offer a more grounded perspective, a perspective where things perhaps DIDN'T work out as well as they actually did. That's what these games reward the player with for their harder content, supply the player with more information that reveals what they may have averted, or more tragically what might have been a source of the problems of the game in the first place. Kirby is MADE of positive energy, and encounters negative energy frequently, I think he's able to sense these things. Able to understand those he comes across, which is exactly why so many of them are able to recover and one day perhaps find their own happy endings.

Void is a being that is the “ancestor of origin” and will rebirth into different forms depending on what energy is gathered. The first few moments of the song are a representation of it lashing out against the world in it’s confusion and the final movement of this song reverences how Void is unable to understand what it wants to be. The very last part where the Gameboy sounds come in is it hearing Kirby’s call and finally understanding what it wants to be. It is my favorite track EVER and funfact: It is the longest song in Kirby HISTORY.

Void termina is an avatar of chaos, but it has infinite potential for good OR for evil at the moment it was born. However, it was quickly discovered by an evil sorcerer that poisoned its heart against all life in the universe. However, at the it’s core, Void is not evil by nature. It just got unlucky by not finding someone who was kind to it after it was born.
That’s one reason why it ends so introspective and sad. If things were different, we shouldn’t have been enemies

as someone who has played this series since i was a baby, hearing the descent into chiptune and then the rise of the minor key green greens motif makes me cry every time
this climactic ending of one of the most ambitious kirby games, the third time you've fought this boss, the hardest fight in the game
it smiles at kirby with the same childlike innocence that kirby would normally smile back with if the galaxy wasn't in peril, you have to kill this monster but in some ways you wish you could just befriend it, the music slows down to give you time to think about both the fight and the entire series
hearing the chiptune takes you back to your own first experiences with kirby, thinking about kirbys beginnings with the very first green green back when he was black and white on the gameboy, seeing this uncomfortably familiar smiling white ball you're fighting that has not yet developed its pink hue, and how you have to cut short the beginnings of what could have in another universe been a baby kirby

I like that you actually reached a conclusion about Green Greens being at the end that is not the common misconception of "Void gets reborn as Kirby". It's more that Void pretty much is confused about its own identity after getting both negative energy (from Hyness and the dark hearts he collected) and positive energy (Kirby and his friends). That is why we get a sad Green Greens as a mix of both.

Anyway since you mentioned Japanese text... In Japanese in KSA, there is way more missing info than that. In particular, in Hyness' rant, they removed a part that mentions Void's nature as someone who is influenced by whoever revives him, which Kumazaki reaffirms in the Nintendo Dream interview I mentioned. Just to mention one more.
It's a bit clearer in Japanese that all that happened was that Void saw Kirby's face and copied it due to said nature of Void. It being reborn based on energy also relates to that. It's way simpler than "Void gets reborn as Kirby" because I mean if that is true then I guess either Void traveled back in time or the series is a time loop which ?????
That is why I am calling this a misconception: this is a theory primarily based on the English text of KSA that goes in the opposite direction the series director wanted it to go. Sadly he likes to keep it vague so we will likely never know for sure, but if you know all pieces of information about Void, the most logical conclusion is that Void simply copied Kirby's text.
Sure everyone can make whatever theories they want, but some are stronger than others. Like another silly theory, "Necrodeus created the Sun Stones" is getting something revealed about the Sun Stones and doing a gigantic leap to Necrodeus for some reason, instead of the simpler and more logical approach of "Sectonia made the Sun Stones."
This is why I always say Kirby lore isn't complicated. The internet overcomplicates it for some reason.

Plot of Star Allies revolves around Kirby and pretty much every notable character from past games chasing after the mages of the Jambastion Cult, led by the dark wizard Lord Hyness, as they seek gather the fragments of an object called the Jamba Heart that contains the gestating essence of their god, Void Termina.
Void is stated in the lore to be a being that exists in all dimensions, which i personally interpret to mean that the birth of an incarnation of Void is something that will inevitably happen in every universe. Void is also stated to be some kind of pure elemental being, and the form it takes when it emerges is influenced by the elemental energies that are present. When it does eventually emerge, it does so heavily influenced by the element of Darkness, and takes the form of a hulking giant that bears a striking resemblance to a creature from Evangelion. You spend the first 3 movements of the song fighting this form, briefly dipping inside its body for movement 2.
As the fight goes on, its form begins manifesting some recognizable traits of past villains. It sprouts wings that look like the wings of both Marx from Superstar and Zero Two from Crystal Shards. It then summons phantom copies of the Master Crown, a relic from Return to Dream Land. One of the elements in the Kirby universe is Dream, relating to thought and memory, and i think whats happening at this point in the fight is that Kirby’s memories are influencing Void’s form.
In the final phase, you dive back inside Void’s body to confront its core, a multicolored shifting orb. As soon as Kirby enters its arena, it copies Kirby’s face and begins using a bunch of attacks stolen straight from several past final bosses. Eventually the Kirby face shifts to a single eye, a trait most commonly shared by members of the Dark Matter species, a recurring antagonistic force in the series, as well as other beings that have been consumed by darkness. A lot of people seem to take all this to mean that Kirby himself as well as certain members of Dark Matter, are all incarnations of Void, and that Kirby is what happens when an incarnation is pure good. I personally dont subscribe to this theory, as theres some interviews with the devs that present counterevidence against it. I think Void is simply Its Own Thing, that is using Kirby’s worst memories against him. This game was conceived to be a big 35th anniversary celebration, so its fitting that the final boss is essentially mocking Kirby’s past.
Void is shown to have a weakness though. In star allies, you can turn enemies into allies by throwing Friend Hearts at them. Heart itself is another element in the Kirby universe, the antithesis of Darkness, and when you throw Friend Hearts at Void, it instead deals damage to it. In doing so, you are essentially forcing Heart into Void’s elemental make-up. You are literally turning it benevolent. While this doesnt quite happen in the main story, it DOES happen in the final battle of the hardest difficulty of the games Arena mode. Every Kirby game has a boss rush mode where, on the highest difficulty, you fight harder versions of the bosses which come with extra lore tidbits. These modes are (usually) not canon, but are instead what-if scenarios, so the lore they come with is considered canon. For star allies you fight Voids true form, its multiversal self. In this mode, when you defeat Void, instead of a big epic beam struggle ending in Voids destruction, Void begins bursting with different colored sparkles as its face rapidly shifts through dozens of different forms before finally settling on a big smile. I personally take this to mean that in this hypothetical scenario, Kirby succeeds in turning Voids elemental make-up into pure Heart, flushing it of any trace of Darkness.
Void was and remains by far the most ambitious final boss in the series lore-wise. Its been years and people still haven’t figured out all the mysteries surrounding this guy. Forgotten Land was the next mainline game after Star Allies, and with its jump to 3D, Star Allies now marks an End of an Era for Kirby, with a final boss that mocks, yes, but also celebrates the Pink Puff Balls’s legacy.
So yeah id say this tracks pretty cool.

the Kirby soundtrack is criminally underrated, because the games don't have dialogue in most boss fights, ended up that the music is shows the meaning and background of the fights.
In the case of The Star Conquering Traveler, this song (for what I interpreted), is an demonstrations of the uncanny similaries with Kirby, the chaotic fight and introspective representation of Void Termina, and kind of an culmunation of the whole franchises lore since Void is... almost the missing link of all final bosses and Kirby himself.
All of them are connected, and Void Termina shows this by it's hardest version ( been named just as Void) on the final track "Astral Rebirth", he is reboring as another universal threat, but kirby maneged to make Void reborn as an friend! (even more because you unlock the old kirby design when you beat Void for the first time).

here's a read on how this symphony ends: imagine youre someone or maybe more like something that has always existed with the sole purpose to dominate and destroy Everything, and then you encounter Kirby, who's just having fun snacking and napping all day, but will risk all that to go against you and protect what he loves. It seems like, maybe Kirby has it figured it out more than you do? Maybe you'd be happier if you were more like that? Maybe you do start to question what you are and what you're doing here. If you have the power to destroy the universe, it can't be so far fetched to imagine you have the potential to live as happily and proudly as Kirby does, can it? Are you really so different? Maybe it is in this way that Kirby has you cornered.
Even if you had the power to destroy Kirby, could you say you truly overcame, could you truly say you "conquered"?
Or maybe it's not that deep, just my read. In any case, glad you enjoyed the "WHAT THE HECK HAPPENS IN KIRBY?!" song

The Star Conquering Traveler, AKA Void Termina is a meandering presence of destruction, and within it dwells its sort of... infant self? An infant self that is eerily reminiscent of our little hero, Kirby. The story, as far as I'm aware, goes that this nigh-divine being was once the same as our little guy, but in its earliest moments was saturated with cruelty, sorrow, and pain, unlike Kirby, who was saturated with joy, friendship, and selflessness. The emotions these beings experience in their infancy is integral to their development later on, where they become embodiments of what was shown to them during said development. Kirby was shown love and kindness, so he is loving and kind. Termina was shown pain and cruelty, so it is pained and cruel. The fight is Kirby fighting the sad and terrifying vestiges of what he could have been, and perhaps showing Termina, though too late, what it could have been as well. It is a frightful encounter with a near-divine being of pain, but also a sorrowful encounter with a pained child who doesn't know what else to do. Kirby as a series is all fun and games until you read into it at all.
Also, a fun thing to note: In the game where this track comes from, Kirby: Star Allies, there is a special mechanic where you can throw a glowing pink heart at enemies to befriend them, allowing them to fight alongside you, and possibly even be played by friends! These same hearts, however, deal minor damage to Termina when thrown, potentially showing that its cruel nature is being worn down by Kirby's kindness, or that it is so opposite to this kindness that it is physically harmed by the friend-hearts.

These are just high speculations, so to let you understand Marco and everyone.
It is now known by many, that Void has a lot of theories. There is a speculation, that Kumazaki got Void's inspiration mostlikely by the greek mythology of chaos (which has like 2-3 connections I found out and you can compare, if you want to ask me or read the text) which describes the Chaos as the primordial void AND origin of everything, the nothingness before existence what it "created". To poinr it out, that the english and even the original japanese refer to Void Soul (the "soul" form of Void) as the Essence of Chaos. Remember, that essence also means like the core or the being of something.
Void is the core of chaos, it IS chaos itself, it is the origin of the whole Kirbyverse/s. The source of all things, laws, energies, objects, causes, beings, life and death, etc. remember, that Void is considered the origin of all. Even it is described in an japanese-only pause screen as the "Progenitor of Origination" so to speak the "Origin of Origin", confirming that it indeed is the origin of everything, being the source of origin as the definition itself. Yet Void needs multiple factors, to take on a physical form, through the matters, energies and maybe other methodes which weren't revealed yet. (Mind, that the 4 matters dream, soul, dark and heart must have been created or come from Void (or the actual void) itself.
Imagine it like the parent births the child, the children rebirth the the parent into a physical form.
Due to other factors, Void is influenable and is able to take on any form it wants to be, theoretically. In the current Kirby lore, Void took on the appearences of Kirby and Dark Matter, due the influence of the certain energies. (I won't mention positive and negative emotional energy, because it only is described in the english descriptions, but ISN'T present in the original japanese one. It's only refered as "any kind of energy" if I remember correctly).
Maybe Void is able to take on any form and being it sees, but saw Kirby as like the more "dominating" positive-filled being and took on his form as well. It's up to question about its negative influence, Hyness influenced it by worshipping Dark Matter with his tribe, either its because of the influence of his tribe, that Void took on Dark Matter and the matter of darkness OR Dark Matter is always the result for negativity, making it like the embodiment and evil itself, created by Void.
To let you all remember, Void is neither Kirby nor Dark Matter. Void is a being of its own, Void is Void.
It's like you would call god a human, instead of god being god, you know? And that's the case here.
Void wasn't planned to be a god-like character by Kumazaki himself, but rather the creator (like god, BUT) the void is no being. It is nothingness and no god. That's probably also a reason why Kumazaki says, that Void is not a god, but rather the origin in definition itself.
The laat topic I wanted to cut on before I start for now was the "Is Kirby related to Void or not?".
Well, to simply answer the question, I have seperated everything into "directly connected to Void" and "indirectly connected to Void". Think about it like the religious believe of god, he is described as the father of all, yet you yourself have parents too. Your parents are directly connected to you for which god is indirectly connected to you AND your parents, as he has controlled everyone "indirectly" even though your parents gave birth to you and directly created you. That's a similar case to Void, Kirby probably came or was made by the stars (we don't know yet, only his name is "Kirby of the Stars") so he and the most of all beings and things would be indirectly connected to Void, not directly created by it, but somehow still did due to it being considered the origin of all. Yet there is Dark Matter who is directly connected by Void and also created mostlikely, as well as the "matter of darkness" which logically would have been created directly by Void itself.
So about Kirby's influence, either he has a closer bond to Void and isn't just only directly created by the stars, like maybe a "chosen one" or something or he is a bigger influence for positivity which Void chose Kirby as a more "dominating" influence to mimic or resemble. Maybe it could have taken on the form of a Waddle Dee or a Bronto Burt as well, if Kirby wouldn't have been there aside from Hyness. Maybe it can take on objects too or maybe even stay in a neutral form, which is unknowenst to us for now.
Still, everything is speculative and nothing is really confirmed at this point.
I won't go further at this point, but share your ideas, speculations, theories, even facts and more!
There's still a lot to think and talk about, it's probably just overthinking, but if you guys are up to discuss about it, go ahead. :)

As a long time Kirby fan I want to try to give my answer to the question at 16:11 I think it's first and foremost a subversion of expectations, especially in a Kirby game. It really grabbed my attention when I first heard it becuase this was, without a doubt, the hardest boss fight in Kirby when it was released. Like during the electric guitar section, you're practically playing a bullet hell game, and then the music slows down and pulls back, and the boss' attacks don't get easier, but instead switch from frantic to these drawn out, screen filling attacks like massive lasers that barely give you any room to move, it's very interesting. Second, there's quite a bit of lore at play, but there's already a lot of other comments that fully explain that, so I'm not going to go into it myself cuz there's nothing more to add. I'd just be parroting what they already said

It was this boss that basically gave us the biggest lore drop on WHAT kirby may be as its basically dropped on us that void is kirby if he was subjected to nothing but negativity. From the pause screen of void sould itself "No telling if it's true, but according to the ancient scrolls, Void Termina may rise again in other forms depending on whether positive or negative energy is gathered. It seems this being of darkness will wander the galaxy until one day he is reborn into a new existence. When he returns, hopefully it will be as…a friend." Gotta say, for someone who hasn't played this game, you were pretty spot on for the first half of the song. Here's some context:
The first movement is the beginning of the fight, where you first face off against the titanic monster Void Termina. The second phase has you enter the beast's body and fight a cacoon. What's interesting is this cacoon shoots dark japanese words at you, like "hatred" and "sadness." That part you were spot on. There's a big starry galaxy in the background, and when you first enter void termina's body, it foreshadows what's coming next. As for the next phase, the cacoon cracks open, and before you get a chance to see what's inside, you get thrusted out of the body, and it reawakens with a more angelic presence, flying around the battlefield and what not. Soon you strick it down, and you get a chance to enter it's body again. Here is where things start getting crazy. In the final phase, you get to see what that cacoon was hiding: a soul that looks very similar to kirby himself. You're no longer fighting void termina, you're fighting it's REAL body: Void. It has extremely hectic and powerful attacks, which is complimented by the chaotic music. Then the tragedy of the fight syncs into the music, showcases what's really going on in the fight.
The fight teaches you that Void and Kirby come from one of the same source: powerful emotions. Void is constantly going through a cycle of life and rebirth. If a wave of strong negative emotions reaches a certain point, Void will reincarnate as an evil being. However, emotions like love and friendship is what allowed Kirby to be born the way he is. The last phase's music is representing the chaotic and tragic tale of a Kirby without friends. It's what kirby could have become if he was filled with anger, hatred, and sadness rather than love and peace. As you heard in the song, the sad gameboy sound was playing a version of green greens, connecting Kirby and Void even more, emphasising the tale of a Kirby without love. The last part of the song is a sort of farewell to Void. If you pause the game during this phase, the following text will appear:
"The final battle at hand, Void takes his first steps toward a new age. In place of tyrannical rage, will he find...naptime? Gentle breezes? Treats? He may even dream again...
    A dream of friends reunited!"
This comment is pretty long, so idk if you'll end up reading this, but I thought you'd be interested in hearing the context behind the song. It's a fantastic piece, and really drives home not only how pitiable the final boss really is, but shows the connecting between it and kirby. This entire song has been remade for a Kirby music festival, so if you liked this song, I HIGHLY recommend you check it out. Here's a link to it if you're interested: downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/kirby-30th-anniversary-music-festival-2022

Ohhh, i remember being the one who suggested this a while back on your kirby ost Video "two planets approach the roche limit". Absolutely love that you reacted to the whole thing.Alot of text ahead (mostly to express my love for this track and the kirby lore, aswell as to bring some clarity to the sudden shift in tone near the end of the work, and why there isnt a truly revelating "epic orchestra all out" moment in the last act, because the music represents a tragedy. Also, mightve gotten a bit carried away):
I find it fascinating how a game about a pink circle with eyes can have such a legendary, mature story. And the story of star allies specificially .. is a tragedy "Astral Birth: Void" (name of the boss) isnt actually a name, its a title, literally; an astral being born of void, and what we know as "Kirby". And the astral being birthed of void we are fighting here is the result of a negative birth (dissimilar to kirby, who had the same birth-process, but with positive energy). This was a god born of hatred, destruction and a bad, distorted form of love. A god born of a heart, like kirby - a being surrounded by people who love. - But, unlike kirby, this one was born surrounded by people who loved to the extent of obsession .. **this** astral being born of void was tricked; Though thought to be born of love, by friends who would even sacrifice themselves to birth it .. in truth it was created by obsession, feelings beyond even love, but way, way worse. Hence it was used, tucked away into the stomache of some greater evil as fuel, treated as though it was an lifeless object, not even given a name by the very world it exists in. There it was, meant to help and to make friends .. now used as a mere organ, not even given a name. There it was, only left able to contemplate what could've been … "Maybe, in another universe it would've been able to play, take a nap, eat cake, help and ... make friends"

While the fandom jokes about kirby being a merciless destroyer of gods, but Kirby is nothing but kind, even to those the betrayed or harmed him. He gives second chances. Even Void gets the chance to enjoy naptimes, breezes, and treats.

2:45 Ah, the tell tales signs of not having played Kirby. Hearing that the Kirby song is called "The Star Conquering Traveler" and not assuming it's describing Kirby.
To add to that, the song is more likely then not about both kirby and the boss itself. Without diving to deep into it, it's revealed there is a... "link" between kirby and this boss that kirby is far to innocent to truely comprehend... but the boss isnt. The boss sees what life could have been like on another path, without the interference of the forces beyond. And it seems that it brings it pain... and... hope?
The Kirby series has some of the most suprisingly complex music in all of video games. Not because of what it "says" but because of how it manages to say it in a guise that still resonates with younger audiences. In this piece for instance, it is dead easy to hear the dedrigation of the boss's motives and ambition. Yet it's obvious that the boss isn't JUST giving up, it's accepting that there is another path it's life can still go on towards after it has failed here.

Wow, i did not expect you to cover my favorite Kirby track of all time, and that in full. The last movement literally made me cry multible times just from nostalgia, its the one Kirby song i have on my phone.
The main reason that this isnt a brutal, loud track is, that this (ever reccuring in all games) main boss probably isnt evil in the literal sense. Its all just theory, kirby has no real set lore, but the main theory is that kirby and void, the little metallic ball that looks like kirby with a face and all, are of the same kind, if not maybe 2 parts of the same being. That it, and kirby, are gods of destruction, but not because theyre malicious, but because desctruction is part of the universe, and it just has to be there. They dont destroy because they want to, they dont even think about it, they just do it because thats what they were made to do.
I personally like to think that Kirby is the slightly more "good" part of this entity that maybe split at some point (as kirby can split sometimes too, it would make sense to me), and Void is the more "evil" part. Kirby can control itself and not just destroy everything it sees, it realizes friend from foe, but it too destroys, it literally sucks up the environment like a black hole and its gone. He can just swallow almost anything. Void cant really control itself and just destroys entire stars, planets and everything it comes across. And despite being beaten by Kirby time and time again, its never truly gone. Because destruction as a force of nature cant be destroyed. There is a subtle detail when you defeat the last form of this boss, that it smiles right before it explodes (once again), indicating that not only it didnt die, but maybe even had fun. Maybe learned something from Kirby, as an entity which probably isnt supposed to feel fun or learn. But again, this is all just my interpretation, and thats the fun part about this kind of lore, most things could be right or wrong if they at least make a little sense.
Finally, almost no player ever heard the last movement of this boss, or saw the last form, in-game. Because its literally one of the hardest boss-rushs ive ever seen, i surely couldnt beat it. First you have to beat the hardest version, to unlock an even harder version. And you have to beat that to get an EVEN HARDER version, which actually wasnt originally in the game, but was added later. Also the little ball-part of the boss (the real thing basically), changes names depending on which difficulty you fight it. Normally its called "Void Termina", then "Void Soul" and the final version is simply called "Void", indicating to me that this is really just the pure, manifested force of destruction in that universe.
Thanks for coming to my Ted-Talk, i just really love this piece and boss.

  • @axisred2301
    @axisred2301 Před 27 dny +1

Some trivia concerning the 5th movement (with the piano and chiptune):
As is tradition for most Kirby games, each boss has a harder version that can be fought by clearing some modes after the main story. Star Allies uniquely has a third, even harder version of each boss, including the final boss.
I mention this because the 5th movement only plays during the last part of the third and hardest version of the boss. The other two only loop the 4th movement (with the guitar). I think the 5th's somber tone is fitting for this last version, since the cutscene upon beating it and the in-game lore imply that the boss can be freed of its negative energy and be reborn as a more positive incarnation like Kirby.

    @dysr Před 9 měsíci +2

A large part of the main melody (which the wiki referred to as the Void Termina leitmotif) in this piece is also the theme of the main villains in the game, so it's a nice furthering of that motif once they have achieved their goal of summoning the final boss. Green Greens in a minor key is also a common motif between the final boss themes of the previous 3 games (Triple Deluxe uses the section that was already in a minor key in the Soul Sectonia and The World to Win theme instead, while Planet Robobot has both the major section in a minor key as a short ditty in the background before using the minor section, but my point still stands), albeit one that is only present in a few bars at most. The Star Conquering Traveller uses it much more extensively than those themes, which also fits with the theme of Star Allies being a culmination of the series (being released on the 25th anniversary of the series and coming before the series's first mainline foray into 3D platforming with Forgotten Land), as well as being a celebration of the series's history.
Interestingly enough, The Star Conquering Traveller lacks the Kirby's Triumphant Return motif, which was present in the final boss themes of Return to Dream Land and Planet Robobot as well as playing after the defeat of the final boss in Super Star (Ultra). I wonder if it was intentionally excluded to keep the focus of the piece on Void, although it's also missing from the final boss sequence of Triple Deluxe, so that's difficult to say for certain. Ironically, the Kirby's Triumphant Return motif is also largely a remix of the main Green Greens motif as well.

I absolutely love the final part, them final phase
I might be wrong, but i think Void is a sort of origin for both Kirby and the main nemesis of the series, Dark Matter (A race, not individual)
Depending on the influence Void receives before being reborn or something like that, it will be reborn as something either evil, like Dark Matter, or something of pure good and happiness, like Kirby!
The main leitmotif (if i'm using that right) i think represents the Jamba cult, who are a small group striving to break the seal placed on Void, and want to use it to destroy the world. They give Void the bad influence
And Kirby's pure goodness and everything just from him being around influences Void in a positive way
Its face even switches between mimicking forms of both Dark Matter and Kirby
I think toward the end where it gets all sorrowful is where it's like Void is making The Ultimate Choice (The name of the boss rush you fight the version of the boss the sorrowful part plays in, the final boss doesn't have that segment), to become another Dark Matter ruler, or to become something happy, like Kirby
I think what ends up happening is when you kill Void, it smiles, then being reborn as Kirb, from the original Gameboy title
That's what all the chiptune sounds are referencing, Void's rebirth as Kirb
This is supported by its pause screen description: "The final battle at hand, Void takes his first steps toward a new age. In place of tyrannical rage, will he find...naptime? Gentle breezes? Treats? He may even dream again...
    A dream of friends reunited!"
And also how, when you defeat him, you can play as Kirb, stylised like the artwork from the original Kirby's Dream Land
I love the Lore connotations of this song so MUCH!
Feel free to correct me, because i was probably wrong a lot

This piece is a culmination of so much of the Kirby series’ lore. Fighting against what is essentially a dark reflection of something Kirby could have been. You can't imagine how much I'm grateful for this reaction, this is my favourite music, just that, shortly, just my favourite.
It has everything, First movement: Star destroying Playing, confidant yet threatening, you are fighting one of not your greatest foe, Second movement: Embryo's vessel mysterious/uncomfortable, the unnerving cocoon protecting the true void, Third movement: Wings of sorrows and all heavens, take back to fight the armor body, epic/divine, Fourth movement:The hope of birth dynamic/tense, you realize at this moment that you're not fighting a foe, but a missed friend, he's at his full power now but don't gine up, Fifth movement: Shimmering star, emotional/nostalgic, you can still save him, go Kirby of the star, make your last ally of this adventure and give him thed love he deserved.
The whole ost (except maybe Embryo's vessel) has the motif of green greens, the very first level and one of the most iconic kirby ost, the end even has a 8bit remix connecting Kirby to Void.
(If you want very summared lore: Void is the origin of all matters, depending on if the energy he's in contact with is positive or negative he'll either become a Kirby or a Dark matter (the main antagonist)).
The final battle at hand, Void takes his first step toward a new age. In place of tyrannical rage will he find... naptime? Gentle breezes? He may even dream again...
    *A dream of friends reunited!*
If you want to try other Kirby music I recomend (counting some you may have already watched):
every final boss since Return to dreamland, Roar of Dedede, Dedede's royal payback, Sword of the surviving guardian, 0², Deluxe others final boss (Suprem lord's coronation a remix of C-R-O-W-N-E-D, and Mistiltein Tree crown without a ruler).

Although yes one of the reasons green greens plays during the final boss is because star allies is a celebration of the series before Kirby's next big step (the forgotten land) but I would say the main reason it plays is because the final boss itself has a connection to not just Kirby but also another Villain of Kirby's, Dark Matter and its master Zero, Kirby's first big villain back in Dreamland 2, 3 and Kirby 64. And Star allies' final boss Void finally explains the origin of both Kirby and Zero and their connection to each other as they both come from Void, if positive energy is gathered Kirby will be born from Void but if negative energy is gathered Dark Matter and Zero will be born, they've hinted this connection way back when Dark Matter's weakness was positive emotions. Yes that means Kirby's "brother" is a bleeding eyeball eldritch horror of darkness
