      @@NickBurnsFPV i fly 50/50 analog and Walksnail, I have no problems with analog after growing up in the 80s with analog tv, just the young spoiled snobs complain... I would be just as happy with more hd recording options like the runcam hybrid or baby turtle, wish there was more options like that for sub 250g drones. I'm sure because these goggles have the walksnail built in I would use it more then what i use my VRX. But i like to keep things cheaper, as for a DVR for analog i have several old systems like the monitor out of my fxt viper v2 goggles, honestly I would prefer goggles that just had an umbilical cord that goes to a base station VRX over all, have very good screens and optics with just one long cord coming out going to something that I can mount to my radio or a tripod with full modular capabilities

    The compelling feature for me was the adjustable diopters - I have an old Dominator 3 paired with vrx and I was not enjoying the view as much as I think I will with actual HD goggles - I was getting around to buying the V1’s until they went out of stock. I can actually justify them for aiding my vision.

    This looks as promising as HDZ, I'm still on old analog goggles and won't be giving up analog so whatever new goggles have to be backward compatible. I can't use DJI so having another choice is great! Many props to them for having inputs and outputs. I think that being able to watch other people flying is PARAMOUNT to meet ups and flying together. As a long time analog flyer, and a non-fan of DJI, I've been waiting to see what options and features could be brought, and at what price point. My current HDO first gens I've been using since they came out, , and have been great. These are the first digital set I've seen that I would buy. As for the foam and strap ( which looks like crap, TBH ), that is not a deal breaker, the better replacements will be out shortly. The ability to upgrade the TX, plus the smaller size / form factor are big points.

    Great video, nice goggles. I have and like the FS HD goggles. Am mostly worried about your mention of a new improved RX module obsoleting my old goggles. My biggest problem with WS is the size ( tooo wide at 33mm) and fragility ( plugs ) of their VTX units, esp for the 3' quads I love. Nick, mahalo for always haveng great reviews and interesting content. I'm still pretty new to FPV and started with analog micros which I love, and got started with the Cobra X box goggles which I really like. Been wanting to make the jump to HD and my drone mentor uses walksnail which he really likes, but I was leaning towards HD Zero since you could add analog to it so I could use one set of goggles with my existing analog as I slowly start adding HD drones to my fleet.
    Was really hoping WS would have had an integrated analog option or add-on that would work with DVR.
    As a beginner wanting to make the jump from analog to digital, I was hoping to find something that would allow me to use both without clunky external add-ons. I'll keep watching and hoping someone put's out a set that either integrates or has an elegant add-on so I can fly both types with one set of goggles.

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Since the launch they have verbally announced they will have an analog "add on" with DVR. But at this time we still don't know how the switching will take place. From the drawings it looks like we have to take out the WS vrx and put in the analog receiver, which is likely going to be combersome if it works that way.

      @@NickBurnsFPVthe thing is companies need to shy away from this mentality as it can be a deal breaker for some people. At the moment I'm using a set of second hand DJI Goggles V2 that I got off of eBay with the BDI Adapter and Rapidfire module. I haven't been in the hobby that long but use the air units on my 5 inch quads and analog on my micro whoops. I don't want to be using hdzero, walksnail on these as it pushes the price up to double and at £180 I'd rather be building a 3.5-5 inch build. So for economics I stick with analog for having a bit of fun around the house.

  • @rookie101_
    @rookie101_ Před 7 měsíci

    What is the screen size of these compared to the DJI V2? I'm in my 50's and use reading glasses and need the larger screen size like the V2 for them to be usable for me and I miss flying whoops around the house in the winter which in Calgary lasts a very long time. With analog I had to use box goggles for the large screen, I did try an older set of fatshark dominators but to my eyes the screens were so small it was like trying to see a 20 inch tv from a block away, I could hardly see the screen let alone what was on it.

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  Před 7 měsíci

      I don't see that the true screen dimensions have been published. What might be more important is the adjustable focal range. The older geneeration of goggles only had IPD (distance between eyes) adjustment, our current goggles have the focal adjustment (in and out). Pair that with the larger FOV of 50 degrees and the ability to add diaopters for additional focal adjustments. These make them far more likely to be useable for a wider set of users. But it would be, at best a guess, to determine if they would work for you. If you could get the opportunity to try modern era goggles that would be a better predictor.

    Great video review Nick
    For most still $450 bucks is a Big expense in today's economy . I watched a Bardwell video where he was flying micro quads with every system from Analog, HDZ and WS etc and when he flew down to the house in his field the analog went fuzzy and almost unflyable as did HDzero, But when he took the WS quad behind that house it was crystal clear . That to me was something that would make me consider a HD system as my manner of flight is often behind objects as I fly only analog. But I have never not been able to continue my flights even in some of those sketchy areas it was always flyable, but to be perfectly clear in such situations would be Great
    Also that new goggle looks cheaply made as the angles are odd and as you say so much light leakage and not a very well fit shape for anyone in my opinion...
    Now the issue I still have has been the same one for years is this constant goggle changes and upgrades that never end . IF these companies would simply LISTEN to the community, surely they could create a Goggle that does what is needful and what many want and stop every couple years make a NEW Goggle...that alone has turned me off even trying a HD system , well that and the $$...LOL

    Thanks for this review.
    I'm coming back into FPV after about 4-5 years away -i.e. pre digital, so this review was really useful for me.
    So far the Walksnail Avatar system - specifically the Goggle X seems like the most compelling digital system. The flexibility inb terms of inputs and the replaceable receiver and removable/replaceable front plate make me think that a drop in analog receive might be do-able, which would be great as I have about 10 analog quads. I plan to upgrade probably 3 to digital so I expect I will be carrying my HDOs around unless there's an easy way to integrate analog receivers into one of the digital systems (things hanging off the side or top doesn't count as easy to me).
    The DJI system looks good too, but the fact they change so fast and don't seem to keep much backaward compatability (e..g. buying the previous generationg of air unit camera seems pretty hard unless you find old stock).
    The HD zeros are way more expensive and from what I have been told the video does not penetrate very well.
    I'm also very curious to know how the different HD systems get along in proximity to each other - like will my mates with DJI systems stomp on my signal or vice sersa?

    I dont want to look like a partypooper or someone negative, but it feels to me like companies are currently trying to push out more and more products as fast as possible, to just make a V2, V3 ecc the next day.. the R&D is pushed to customers.. stuff is getting more and more expensive (which is fair with the current world economics ecc) but quality of stuff seems to get cheaper and innovation has stalled a bit too. Might just be me feeling that way, not sure..
    Like why the hell are we going 10 steps back and not having a power button on these?
    Also the strap looks cheap to me..
    oh hell.. what do I know though. Still flying my Sky04x with WS VRX stuck to it like a pleb..
    Nice and honest review though Nick!

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  Před 9 měsíci +1

      In my perspective it pretty much always been this way. The companies we have in FPV are microscopic compared to other electronic manufacturers. The overall teams may only be 1 or 2 people serving multiple purposes. Innovation recently has been much faster paced than when I started in 2015. I think the first 4+ years we only had analog and focused on more powerful vtx and better cameras. We had 1 or 2 AIOs and sometimes had to manually balance props. Reliability issues were really bad, very common to experience fires on first battery plug in. As reviewing back then, some products/quads were actually bad...hardly flyable....if they didn't catch fire. FPV is much more stable and reliable now and not only do we have analog, we have 3 other video systems.

    • @MasterApeFPV
      @MasterApeFPV Před 9 měsíci

      @@NickBurnsFPV that is actually something I didn’t consider.. I started FPV just shortly before DJI came out with their system (3 years ago?). I did experience some reliability issues, but very very little.
      I dont know.. I have been spending close to no money these past 4 months on FPV gear (due to my wallet being slimmer than a pancake atm) and it seems to me like the same micros are released with a V behind their name.. a year and a half to two years ago we had new motors coming out, new frames, new lipos, new connectors.
      I could actually see it from your point of view and say that maybe we are coming close to pinpointing what works.
      Referring back to these goggles though, why the hell didn’t they stick an on off button on there. Remember how the FPV community begged FS for so long to put one on their goggles? 😂

    • @NickBurnsFPV
      @NickBurnsFPV  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@MasterApeFPV The companies do make small changes and call them a v2. I get why they do it, but I also think they leave resellers with the parts for v1 that turned out to be replaced. I would be very curious how much dead stock resellers have. I have no idea why they wouldn't include a hardware power button, they indicated they took input from the community. I can't imagine a sample of the fpv community that wouldn't want a power button. I used the "hardware power button" as the soft touch power buttons consume some amount of energy to be able to be "soft touch" like on the orqa goggles.

    Well, I received mine today, December 8, 2023 from Race Day Quads in Orlando. I live just south of Orlando in Winter Haven. Was really looking forward to this as they would be my first digital as I’ve stayed with analog. I do have a large head, not as large as yours, but the damn goggles don’t fit at all. TERRIBLE. I can stick my thumb against the cheek of my face and not touch the rubber face plate seal. Also, if I wear them for more than a few minutes, the bridge in my nose starts hurting and in fact, I actually have a little bruise on it from screwing around with these goggles, the other thing that I could not do was get the goggles to turn off the sensor that keeps the screens on, you could go to it, but it would not respond to the command to turn it off. So yes, I’m bummed out I don’t think it should be my job to go out and buy Replacement face seals till I get one that fits me. A friend of mine who is from China put them on, and of course they fit his face along with the strap having plenty of room to fit correctly around his head . I would think ergonomics and design would have been an important factor for non-Asian individuals but I guess not. I don’t have this fit problem with the sky zone. 0X4, or FatShark or orca fitting my face, whereas I would have to get a different face seal.
