  • The XC60 is a compact luxury SUV from Volvo and the Recharge brings plug-in hybrid technology. On the outside you will discover a unique grill, front fascia and wheels. On the inside there is a 9in infotainment screen, and digital gauge cluster. Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 paired with two electric motors producing 455HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge a BETTER luxury SUV than a Lexus NX 450h?

    In the rear middle seat, it’s not the cardan tunnel that takes space but the batteries. There is no cardan passing to the rear wheels, the engine drives the front wheels, the electric motors drives the rear wheels. Putting the batteries between the front seats is good from a security perspective, but doesn’t leave much space for the middle rear seat passenger unfortunately.

    I bought a ‘24 xc60 recharge ultimate Dark with Bowers Wilkins
 absolutely amazing.
    Between this and the Lexus RX500H, buy this. Lexus feels more overtly tech heavy, but its drives train felt almost artificial (you’ll know what I’m saying if you drive it). The engine feels like it was always trying hard to get me to speed and it was almost detached from the road. The XC60 feels nimble for being a plug-in hybrid and it really wants to go, even when you hit 75mph.
    Also the smell
 a new one is like getting into a Versace purse and has actual leather seats. I’ve always been a Japanese car guy, but the Swedes really made an SUV that just feels special.
    I’m very impressed and very happy so far. There’s been a couple little software hiccups, but I think those can be solved with updates.

    We picked up our 2023 on the 21st. Denim color, Plus Black trim with the Maroon leather interior. Really love it. There are some stability issues with the android info system where we've had to wait for it to restart, but it works very well. In our old car we would do everything with our phones (nav, music, etc) but this pairs with our accounts, plays our playlists (CZcams music in our case), integrates with our Google maps settings, etc. Basically, it's an Android phone with wheels. We have not needed to use Bluetooth streaming from the phone at all, but it's an option for apps the car doesn't support, like audible. We like the size of the info screen, and the gauge screen is really responsive and clear.
    One feature we also really like is the automatic profile system. Based on the key, the car will auto configure to the driver, which includes all the Google accounts and previous seating positions. The memory buttons on the doors are mostly useless with the profiles. If the wrong profile is selected, usually by having two keys in the car, and the passenger with their key getting in first, it's quick to switch the profile by swiping down in the info system and selecting the correct one.
    Other features not covered here are the Volvo car app can be used to set up start timers on a schedule to warm up the car before you leave in the morning, un/lock the car, see where the car is, and what the charge level of the car is (as well as an estimate of how long till full). It's simple, and useful.

    I currently have a 2023 B5, before that, I had a 2020 T5 and a 2017 S90 T5. Great, all-around car, but my major issue with it is the safety tech. There is no way to reduce the sensitivity or shut it off. It's challenging to parallel park in congested areas without the car auto-breaking for you. Also, there have been a couple times when changing lanes (using directional) in slow-moving traffic where the car auto breaks to a stop. I've taken it to the dealer twice however, they said there isn't a solution for it yet. In all other areas, this car is perfect, I am hopeful that @Volvocars will have a software update soon to fix this issue.

AT 15:44 in video you say there is a ton of info to customize on that digital gauge cluster there really isn't it basically the Google Maps or nothing. At 17:09 you mention the high Centre while sitting in the backseat area is because of a driveshaft to power the 4 wheel drive actually there is NO driveshaft! Its's high because of the battery placement in centre, there's a electric motor that works independent to power the rear wheels in pure EV mode or for ALL WHEEL drive mode. Also would be good to mention it is Android automotive system that also allows Hey Google to change the temperature with make it easier to control than touching the screen! • @yaadi
      @yaadi Pƙed rokem +1

      even in 2023 Smart driving is not ready for Safety reasons without keeping hands on wheel frequently. The driving AI is just not ready yet for all the computing power to act swiftly when something different other than keeping lanes happen. There are too many variables and anomaly that can happen on the road if you allow the car to drive itself. It's still a number of years off for our own safety. Tesla still can't get it right and they are at the forefront of autopilot. IF all drivers followed the rules of the road then yes it could be faster but when would that happen. If all roads had clear lines , no construction, pot holes then yes but when will that happen? A person has to program the car for all these circumstances and the computer has to make the calculations to know how to react ...like do you avoid a person first or another car in a n accident prevention circumstance...

      @@embiggens1 Ahh I see what you mean now - netted seat pockets not cargo nets (I should read more carefully). The net is a better solution, if you place a bulky item in a solid seat pocket it will permanently stretch the material, whether it is cloth, vinyl or leather, a premium net will return to shape much better. Solid pockets are also far more prone to scuffing from children's shoes etc - a net will not scuff.
      This is why premium cars have nets not pockets to preserve the premium look of the car longer. The nets can also often be replaced easier than pockets which are often permanently attached / sewn to the rear of the seat.

    Thanks, Joe. Why do testers do so many acceleration tests? Two are enough IMO. This is a hybrid vehicle so most people will accelerate very sparingly to get the best fuel economy or electric range.
    Lexus and Volvo are different. Both excellent. Honestly, Volvo is in a process of bringing in a new generation and its time. Aspects of the interior now are dated. If you look at the EX90 you can see where Volvo has modernized their interiors. Hopefully, they've cut down on the wind noise as well. But Volvo is making all their new cars BEV only and I'm not sure I like that. To get a PHEV, you have to stick with the current gen, which is becoming the last-gen Volvos. Also, Joe, if you want more sportiness, you have to go to a Polestar tuned Volvo and I don't think they're hybrids but I'm not sure.

    Leaving out fog lights is inexcusable for Volvo. For a company traditionally focused focused on safety this is a glaring omission on an expensive car. . Otherwise I think it is a very nice vehicle. I look forward to knowing what food I can fit in the front door pockets on each vehicle you review :)

I really like the Volvo the safety is the biggest thing trumps any other car on the market for safety hands down and that's what people really need to be thinking about when they buy cars this day and age. Volvo's are such nice cars. Defiantly looking at the V60 & V90 Cross Country, so unique on the rode. They are expansive but you get quality and safety, Had Volvo 1994 850 wagon with inline turbo 5 cylinder, it was a great car. So fast and fun to drive with the room of a wagon.

    The 17min mark of the video, you say that the height of the tunnel in the back, is due to the drive shaft of the awd system. This is wrong. The ICE engine in the XC 60 recharge, only drives the front wheels. The electric motor drives the rear wheels. There is no drive shaft. The tunnel houses the battery.

    I test drove the car this morning and really liked it. One thing when I was investigating online, I did notice that the XC60 was just below normal for reliability. Maybe it would be wise to get the extended warranty with this one?

    • @hyperbandit
      @hyperbandit Pƙed rokem +4

      I would get the extended warranty for any car you're keeping long term, especially Volvo, as repairs aren't cheap.
      That being said, the previous versions of this car had a lot more going on, and this version ditches the super charger and makes other small simplifications to the engine which should theoretically reduce the drive train components that could potentially have issues.

    Have had nothing but problems with my 2022 XC60 Recharge. Constantly drops from electric to gas when shifting from reverse to drive. Then it lurches forward. It is intermittent. Lots of other strange intermittent issues with the infotainment system. All Volvo does is another software update which doesn't address the issue.

Volvo just started a rebate in the same amount, decided not to move forward due to overall cost along with non-related financial reasons including being in escrow.
