I love the costuming too. She is very good in this role. I never would have guessed her to do this role. I have seen her play Donna Anna and Madalenna on dvd. I heard that she also sang Turandot. She even looks Japanese here, more then many non-asian sopranos.

Rich voices are such because of overtones, , which are a collection of sound frequencies that occur together with the "normal" intended frequency. So most likely that's why you think she's off pitch. And I don't think that can be controlled. It's a physical property of the voice or instrument. Here comes the question whether you prefer a rich but seemingly not on target voice or a plain but pitch perfect one :)

Lovely, I adore how Butterfly is in Western clothes. It seems like something else she's given up from her heritage in a vain hope to please her husband.

She's got a Slavic voice, like mine, and they have more shimmer (frosting) than core sound (cake). So the last note going off was due to lack of core sound probably b/c it's just one hell of a role to sing. A Slavic voice naturally has a wilder vibrato, is darker in color, and just takes soooo much work to keep in line!

Lovely singer. A pity about the way she is costumed...
