It’s British planes and yes they did, after sending an ultimatum to sail out of port either to join the British navy or to a neutral port.
The french refused because to them their government has surrendered and they didn’t want to fight or see the Free France movement as legitimate. Ultimately Britain wouldn’t allow Germany or Italy to use the French navy in the Atlantic and Mediterranean wars and sunk them.

  • @cow1816

Drew: Is Jack Churchill Churchill's son?
    Germans: we think so
incase you don't know Jack Churchill otherwise known as "Mad Jack" was the single most badass mf in history. This guy used a sword and a bow to fight off Germans while playing music on his bagpipe.
The German captured him during the war thinking that he was related to prime minister Churchill, however he survived the war.
Once the war finished Jack wanted to fight on the eastern front against japan, but the American already dropped the bomb on them ending the war, thus leading Jack to say his most famous line "If it wasn’t for those damn Yanks, we could have kept the war going another 10 years!".
However he did have other quotes that are also famous like “Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed.” and “People are less likely to shoot at you if you smile at them.”.

If the binoculars hadn't been locked up, if there had been enough lifeboats, if the captain hadn't ran the ship at full speed, if the captain hadn't continued sailing after the crash (which would have prevented more water from rushing in at the pace it was), any one of these could have prevented the sheer loss of life that was seen on that day.

9:24 there's a lot of interesting history going on here.
IRL in their own civil war the Second Mexican Empire was supported by the French (the Empire was largely a proxy of France), Austrians (the Emperor was an Archduke of Austria), Belgians (the Empress was a Princess of Belgium), Egypt (volunteers and Sudanese slave soldiers), and the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, as well as Spain and Britain from 1861-1862, and eventually both Confederate and Polish Exiles. The Mexican Republic, and the war's eventual victor, was supported by the United States.
I'd assume Russia is on here for two reasons, the first being that the Polish exiles would have come from the Polish National Government of 1863-1864, while the second is the fact that during the American Civil War America served as Russia's warm water port, with Russia even having ships in American harbors during the conflict.
Prussia and the Kingdom of Italy would be tied up in conflicts with Austria at around this time (1860s-1870), so would definitely be likely to associate their wars with the conflicts in North America if they thought it beneficial.
No idea why the Ottomans are on the opposite side of the conflict that the United Principalities inhabited IRL, but I'm assuming it has something to do with Russian influence.

Ironically, the evasion maneuver attempted by the Titanic's captain was, what let it sink. Because of the evasive maneuver, the iceberg ripped the Titanic's side open. A head on collision wouldn't have caused the ship to sink.

      @gotioify Před 2 lety +4

Actually it's believe the side never ripped open. They think the rivets holding the steel plates together buckled from the impact. Basically the ship yard used cheaper material for them to save on cost.

Okay, I've never heard about that.
But effectively, it doesn't make a difference if the steel plates or the rivets failed. The outcome is the same. Too many of the Titanic's internal compartments were damaged and subsequently flooded.
In case of a head on collision with the iceberg, the Titanic would have still taken significant damage, but it wouldn't have been so catastrophic.

Actually, it was the first officer who gave the orders that doomed the ship. The captain wasn't on the bridge at the time of the collision.

Actually, the reason the Roman Empire was divided between East and West wasn’t because of faith, but because the task of governing such a large empire was getting a tad ridiculous for one person.

During the American civil war Both the UK and the French liked the CSA because of their cotton and Mexico was also in a civil war between the Republic and an Empire which was lead by an Austrian prince who was a puppet of France and France was afraid that the USA would fight the Mexican empire so they supported the CSA

About Russian Empire supporting USA in Civil war - that is much more than "they joined USA because Britain joined CSA". Russian Empire at that time was ruled by Tsar Alexandr II "The Liberator", who was known as one of the most liberal monarchs not just in Russia, but in entire Europe, supporting quite lot of democratic and liberal reforms (including abandoning of sefdom, free press, education for everyone, freedom of political thought, free universities, reform of militarry structure, huge development of local government system and of court system, and etc.), even though not all of his reforms were done in an effective way. And Alexander supported the northerners in that conflict from the very beginning, in addition to be opposed to British Empire.
Moreover, Russian Empire sent two fleets to New York and Sann Francisco in case if British would decide to attack it - and Russian Empire announced that if Britain or France would directly attack USA, Russia would declare war on Britain. So in that scenario of First World War coming from American Civil War it would start exactly from those events - Britain in their support of CSA would attack USA, Russia declares war on Britain, France supports Britain and declares war on USA and Russia - Prussia joins it on USA and Russia's side, and etc.
