I just finished this book and had a book club discussion on it and I agree with so many of the things you brought up here. In particular I noticed that each story seemed to have a character trapped, whether physically or metaphorically and the stories tended to end right when the characters situation changed. I really loved this short story collection and cannot wait to read more of her works, thanks for this review!
I loved how you thematically broke down the stories by their similarities and differences! I thought it was pretty unique and gave me good insight into what the collection is about without spoiling it. Great video!
Thank you!
You did it very well. Congrats!
I'm reading this book and can't wait to read to last story.
I think you’ll enjoy it! 👍🏽
Bravo Justin, great review. I really enjoyed this collection and agree with you about wanting to know more when the stories end, a sign of a good story or novel for me. Half of a Yellow Sun is centered on the Biafran War so I know you'd enjoy that too.
Thank you! I definitely am going to read that one next!
Thank you for the Wonderful review, Justin! Looking forward to reading this book!
Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy it!
Great review, loved hearing your thoughts and analysis of these stories.
Thanks
That was a great review. I love Adichie's books - I always learn a lot from them but also connect with the characters even though I am not Nigerian.
That’s the power of the written word. Thanks for watching.
Nice review! Thank u..
This review was awesome. You did a fantastic job, my friend. It was detailed without being spoilery. Your thoughts were communicated clearly. A++
Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Great job! Adichie has been on my to-read list for ages and I still haven't gotten around to her, I really need to pick this one up.
Thanks! I recommend it!
Well, you definitely sold me on a short story collection for sure, which is rare for me. Half a Yellow Sun is the Adichie novel that most stands out of the ones I've read. And, of course, Why We Should All Be Feminists. I have Americanah staring at me right now. Hope to get to it soon. Thanks, Justin.
No problem. I need to read Half a Yellow Sun.
you absolutely nailed it my dude 😎
Thank you 😊
You made me want to re-read this short story collection again. I was obsessed with Chimamanda a few years ago. Her work is very accessible and entertaining. I have read all of her fiction. I'm hoping she's coming out with a new novel or short story collection soon. Also, I don't know if you read "A Lucky Man" by Jamel Brinkley, but I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Thank you. I’m still working in Adichie’s books. I haven’t read A Lucky Man but I’ll check it out.
Nice 👍👍
Great review ! Please, do you get the paginated version of these short stories?
Thanks. I did not.
Freakin great review!
This book sounds super interesting & complex -- I can only imagine the culture shock of moving across the globe... especially to someplace like the U.S.... ! Big yikes. Haha :D
Thanks!
