Fun Facts about me:
~ I’ve never owned a vehicle (Or Drivers license)
~ Smartphone either
~In 2008 I sold my home in Calgary Alberta & moved over 5000 kilometers to a place I’d never been after deciding life was too short & have been making things up ever since, living free and on my own terms connected to nature. (I'd never seen or heard of sea glass before moving to a road which turns to dirt, then falls into the sea, however its discovery was inevitable as its everywhere!)
~ My first 2 summers on Cape Breton were spent working on a farm, living in a tent next to a cornfield. We had to walk a kilometre to the farmhouse & back everyday for water, showering when it rains or the closest body of water (side note, I learned quickly soap won’t lather with saltwater!).🙃
Those experiences further enhanced my appreciation for life’s simplicities & the importance of living on ones own terms…1000 generations have led to these moments (Long days spent on my knees harvesting are probably why I’m such a good picker!)
~ I'm probably listening to the year"1993" (The music of my youth) although the years which surround it are awesome as well!
~ I’ve never had a resume
~ I'm Left handed (Teaching myself music everything was upside-down!)
~ I spend under $100 on clothing a year. ( Which you might of noticed)
~ I spend $0.00 on takeout food a year however do appreciate the tastes of each and every restaurant chain.
~ Everyday I walk my doggies (off leash by the sea or through the woods) a minimum of 10kms a day. Since moving to Cape Breton we’ve walked the equivalent of earths circumference together without leaving the island! 🌎
~ My 120 year old (one bedroom) home doesn’t have a dryer, or bathtub, or foundation. During the coldest winter chill I’ve gone weeks without running water. It’s “cottage living” year round. A small brook runs behind my home, it’s an ancient game trail once used by indigenous people and despite urbanization any animal imaginable can follow the stream past my window to my amazement…growing up in Montreal the largest undomesticated animal I’d ever encountered was a squirrel.
~ As a youth I wanted to be John Lennon & his words & message have always spoke dearly to me heart.
~ That being said, I live my life like a Beatles song & do my best to “Radiate Everything I Am” without fear & be the change I want to see In the world .
~ Born & raised Anglophone in Montreal, I speak French as well & learned enough Spanish, Croatian & Arabic to get myself into conversations which are over my head but good fun!
~ I don’t eat meat with the exception of when kind neighbors leave a food basket on my front step, then I won’t waste it.
~ In person my excitement level is greatly amplified, no matter the activity.
~ Mostly, If you think I’m passionate about sea glass, you should see me with my children & the special relationship we have. They are my destiny & life’s greatest gift!
~ If you've made it this far theirs's one more thing I wanted you to know however its not easy for me to say:
Every moment I struggle with the Symptoms of Asperger's Syndrome, which might help with understanding why I'm so passionate, have a great memory, a terrible grip & live the life of a sea hermit, safe for my children. (Also always have music on as it helps keep me "out" of my head).
I've such a deep rooted connection to the world around me. Each and every one of you mean so very much to me, I cant thank you enough for your love and positive support!
The world is a better place when we're able to treat a stranger like an old friend and make them feel good about themselves!

I don’t think it’s normal in any culture to do what I do professionally! 💯 (Beach comb & Artistic Expression).
Who we are is the sum of each moment, experience & decision of our lives! 💫
Long ago I decided time was too precious to spend working most of my life (as most cultures do) and followed my dreams to a new home, next to the sea & 5000 kilometres from my old “city life”, without a destination but a desire for a more meaningful existence.
I totally agree what I do is “crazy” and “weird” however in no way “childish” but “inspiring”, “exciting” and “educational” to the Beachcombing community! 🌅
I’ve self-published a Canadian best selling book on the topic, also had the honours of being key note speaker at Canada’s largest sea glass festival, on top of the cultural anthropology and archaeology featured in my videos and other social media outlets in hopes to enhance the hobby for all!
Everyone should follow their dreams, my dream was freedom, I’d never seen Sea glass or a beach in my life before moving here in 2008 however it was in abundance & free to anyone willing to put in the time to seek it out. In 2022 It’s an absolute honour to continuously be part of the international community while I raise my children “free and by the sea” connected to nature as nature intended us to exist on this “still” wonderful world!
I definitely notice & understand how “ everyday people” view what I do & understand that I’m nothing more than a scavenger…the worlds happiest “professional” scavenger! (I pay taxes on my bounty! Lol)

Have just started collecting from Lake Ontario and loving your content! We had a rain storm this afternoon, then the sun came out. I drove down to the beach and found my first marble! So exciting! I passed a section of the lake and as I passed it, the waves grew stronger and faster and louder, like it was calling me back. I went back and the blue frosted marble washed right up to my foot!
My dad used vitalis. Nice finds! I esp love the yellow! My fav color!
Yellow is such an exciting and rare find!🌅

Oh my goodness! Hi there!!!! I am so excited to have finally discovered your channel! I keep smiling and going nuts because in mere minutes, you have been hitting so many high notes for me!!! The pieces you find and choose to keep! The stunning close up pictures added all along! I had no idea grey sea glass could be from old TV screens! Your knowledge of what blob top bottles are and the time period they were made in (I am a crazy bottle collector myself... oddly, I know the round bottomed bottles as "cucumber" bottles and the "torpedo" bottles are more pointed like an amphora)! I adore sea glass and marbles and then.... ta daaa, you found a Collie!!!! My favorite! I have had collies my whole life! Carnival glass is awesome! I especially adore the natural iridescence that occurs on glass due to, as you so wonderfully pointed out, the PH imbalance in the soil or water it was in! Love your enthusiasm throughout! The green marble makes me think of malachite! The yellow glass is so rare! And the lavender one, you probably know this already, was once clear but the manganese in the glass turned it purple over time from its' exposure to the sun!

Back during the spring of 2009 when I first moved out Cape Breton and discovered this beach I had a 75 marble weekend with my now ex. Most of the marbles were teeny tiny and my first clue as to how special this area is for beachcombing treasures.

Do l ever love your channel , l get out daily w/ my dogs as well on the Northumberland Straight , Northport or Blue Sea Beach NS l found this wk was like christmas. Found the apothacary's stopper fully complete, a metal fastcar cast, a marble and something similar to stain glass in a wonderful purple, l could not believe it. Your shows brings us luck ! Explaining further into these pieces solves mysteries and the fascination is never ending just like how you do it. l make the X the dogs dig.

Of course I love the marbles and seaglass but that Collie!!!!🙀 so cute! Of course being a dog lover and mom to 2 golden retrievers the Collie would be my favourite. He was probably lost by a child playing in the sand with his toys and got buried out of sight then tumbled around in the waves until rescued by you!!

It’s remarkable how many oddities I’ve recovered over the years. (A few years ago I came across a small manatee, wish I was making CZcams videos back then!).

I moved here in 2008 from Alberta myself and do suffer from the symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome, which falls under the autism spectrum as well…sifting through the pebbles is absolutely the therapy I’d been searching for throughout my life!💯

I once found a small metal car on the beach, only the upper part was left, and all the paint was gone. It seemed to be a car one of our sons had brought with him when he was a little boy! When I found this, he was a young man. :)

I’m not sure how many of my videos you’ve watched however I mentioned in this one (and previously) how I don’t own a camera, tripod or smartphone and record these adventures on a tablet. That being said the piles on our beaches angle like a receding hill making it difficult enough to catch these angles, I’m placing rocks behind my tablet and in front as well in attempts to balance things out. (Which isn’t prolonging the life of my device by any means).
Since moving to Cape Breton in 2008 I’ve been making these amazing discoveries and posting them to my Facebook page for almost a decade.
With the onset of this pandemic and loss of my way of life (tourism) I I began sharing these adventures to fill the void in my life and can assure you it’s no small task putting these videos out however the love and friendship I’ve received in return makes every hour worth the effort. 🧡
I do my best to provide that first person view and appreciate your desire to see more of this angle however describe my techniques as “human dredging” and when applied properly this technique requires 2 hands making holding the tablet to provide a scraping angle difficult.

I once read in the 18th century a 20 tonne slab of malachite was recovered from the Ural Mountains and have always had an fondness for it.

Great question my friend, I’ll try to explain how marbles are made (without video) as best possible!
Hot molten glass is released from the batch by a hopper in between two spinning spiral screws which form the shape of the marble as they descend down the spinning screws!

When I was 5 or 6 My Dad had a bottle of Vitalis that he got from his Dad. It was in the bathroom medicine cabinet. Anyway long story short I lit it with a match and made basically a blow torch out of it. I burned myself pretty bad. Can You imagine a kid on fire from the waist up? Well I am 65 now and still have lots of scars as a result of that experiment. A lot of alcohol in that Vitalis.

@@SeaGlassArchaeology nice hearing from you, your mystery chip of green is strange indeed because l have it here in full form. lt is a bulky, weighted pc with a lid. Its a ladies keepsake weighted glass pc. the underside is georgeous....carved roses. l am thinkin its Italian wear.

Mike! Are you saying you are usually the only one at your beach? I find that both awful and wonderful. Having a beach all to myself would be amazing, but sad because beaches are for people to enjoy the beauty and all the treasures washed up by the water. Loved the vid. Happy hunting.

This is a tricky question to answer my friend, I’ll do my best to help shed insight.
I do encounter individuals and groups on my shoreline (And quite a few more now that I’m posting videos) however please understand my spot is not a “beach” by any means but more a small stretch (150-200 yards) of rocky pebbles which has trapped the rubbish of the surrounding homes discarded by generations past.
I reside 15 kilometres from the nearest traffic signal and my street literally turns to dirt and falls into the sea, that being said, people don’t drive through my area and those who do have a vehicle tend to visit areas such as Glacé bay, where there’s an insane amount of rare colours. Or the North side, where beaches harbour all the discards from marine traffic back to the 1700s, not to mention the ferry to Newfoundland where everything was tossed to sea before reaching port.
As my spots aren’t beaches they are dangerously slippery and not fit for everyone’s abilities. During warmer summer months plenty of families come to visit and love to explore the shorelines, unfortunately I’ve witnessed multiple instances where paramedics had to come with a flat board (and a small team) to get someone back over the cliffs due to a slip.
Many years ago I would tell anyone and everyone of the spots I knew, then someone slipped and broke their jaw, I still to this day never forgave myself and could never share one of the “end of the world” spots I know dotting Cape Breton Island without taking someone first hand.
That being said, when someone’s on the beach with me I let them do there thing unless they recognize and approach me, however in this instance the father and daughter were standing underneath rocks (collecting driftwood) when I heard her scream and jumped up. I don’t believe it’s my place to tell anyone how to live however I’ve seen enough of these shorelines come down over the years to not say anything.
I’m not sure where you reside, if there is an abundant population however things are very different out this way, especially as I’d lived in big cities until 2008 before trading it all in for a more simple existence.

The cateye marble looked new and didn't have any wear to it. Seaglass marbles are highly sought after and you find one and just put it in a bag and show no excitement. Then awhile later you find marble that was well worn and then you got excited.

While I understand and agree not everything is meant for everyone perhaps I can shed insight into why so many of us are drawn to the shorelines in search of that next awesome find! 💫
Many of us feel a connection to the generations past who once owned these finds we’re recovering. The more history one understands about what they’ve recovered, the more personal the connection we feel. (As examples, a shard matched to an old glass washboard sends my mind back to times before electric machines when doing laundry for a larger family took a team to accomplish, or a shard matched to the 1700s, or earlier sends my imagination back to a time of early North American exploration and settlement).
Or it might be how the sea & Mother Nature takes something made by us and discarded foolishly into the sea generations ago and refines it into a well polished gem, one we seem many new possibilities in (creatively).

@@SeaGlassArchaeology these are the exact kind of conversations I like to have with people. No fighting, it makes it soooo much better. In my opinion, dinosaurs were TOTALLY real at one time but when the flood happened in the Bible, Noah did not get the dinosaurs on the ship. So they all drowned. I am a reformed believer, I would LOVE if you would think about the belief a little. In the afterlife you would not be let down.
